"For five years, my father was the Commandant of the Vermont Veteran's Home, during which time I made regular visits to a number of residents - particularly in the dementia wing where they worked primarily with Alzheimers patients. I was continuously impressed by the level of care provided to the patients, though at the time I did not recognize the importance of caring for the veteran's; many of them had served in combat in World War 2 and Korea and some of the dementia patients seemed haunted by their experiences. Since my time in Vermont, I enlisted and have served for the past six years in the United States Marine Corps. I am now pending a medical seperation for injuries sustained on duty, and my appreciation for the incredible amounts of effort the nursing staff put forth for the patients in their charge has grown with my new found perspective. The Veteran's Home was exceedingly clean, and the staff, both in the medical and the administrative departments made it clear regularly that their primary concern was for that of the patients. It has left a lasting impression on me that is contradictory to the popular idea that nursing homes are negative places. I have the utmost respect for the nurses, doctors, and the rest of the staff that care for our elderly. "

"I highly recommend this faculty. They have a wonderful and caring staff. The faculty is clean and well kept inside and out. I is bright and roomy. The staff take very good care of their residents. They have fun daily activities for their residents that are free to join in on at any time. Their food is good. The residents always seem to be happy when I went to visit my Loved one. "

"Sweet Brook was wonderful and made my great-grandfather's last days as peaceful as possible. The staff was lovely and friendly and always made my family and I comfortable. The building itself was clean, bright, and open, unlike some nursing homes which feel like hospitals. "

"My wife has been at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center since August. The care has been OK. I have no problems with their staff. When my wife needs some help, they help her out. I think a nurse should be assigned to her because she has fallen down three times already. My wife is in a semi-private room. I pass by an area where there are recliners. The food should be better for what we are paying. The food quality is average, sometimes even below average."

"My mom is staying at Eddy Village Green at Cohoes. The people were kind. The model was superior because they made it feel like a family kind of experience. They help with toileting and showering. The facility is excellent and very clean. The staff members care about the residents. My mom's room is spacious and has its own bathroom inside. The food is adequate. They can't make it too spicy, too salty, or too sweet. She has Medicaid."

"My 96-year-old mother-in-law, who has always been like a mother to me, is currently at Craneville. She entered the nursing home for rehabilitation after a fall, regained enough strength in therapy to return home, with some help, but returned to Craneville after some months. She is still a resident there. We visit our mom fairly often, and take meals with her there on holidays. We have always been welcomed, and offered any kind of assistance we could need. There is a culture of welcome, and reverence for life at Craneville.. In the couple of years that our mom has been a resident, we have never witnessed a staff person treat a resident disrespectfully. There is also a respect for individuality and achievement there. Mom, at age 95 was given serious therapy to help her get back home where she wanted to be. Now, at age 96, she is President of the Resident's Council, and helps plan and carry out activities, and helps advocate for residents who need help. In short, at Craneville, nobody is written off. Mom lost her husband, my father-in-law, quite suddenly a few weeks ago. The weather was terribly cold, and we didn't see how she could come out to a service, or to see the family without becoming ill. The Adminisration and staff at Craneville went above and beyond to help us cater a reception right in the Dining Room so that Mom could receive her family and friends in honor of her husband and our Dad without risking her health. What can I say after that? I do have some experience with a number of other facilities. Grandville is simply the best."

"November 2015 We had misgivings when we walked in the door, due to the funky-looking carpet in the hallways. The staff, however, was absolutely outstanding. My mother-in-law had a very good three week stay. I or my wife was there everyday and was very impressed with the overall quality of the people who worked here, from the maintenance workers to the RNs. "

"I like that Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility helped my dad. They listened when I had a problem, and they took care of it right then. They were really good. The physical appearance was okay. It was good. My dad could eat in the dining hall if he chose to. There were additional a la carte items that were available 24 hours a day. I was happy with the care. My overall experience with them was very, very good. I would tell people that I would recommend this place if they had to go for rehab. The staff was great. Some of them went above and beyond, and some just went in to talk to my dad, just to chat. They were very good at helping him. However, it was a little dark in the hallway. It almost felt like a hospital. It could have more lighting. My dad was not into activities, but they had a lot of activities. It was covered by insurance, so I would say it was good for the price."

"My dad is doing rehab at Hillcrest Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. It was the only one that the caseworkers could get him in. We did have an experience with them before, and he's doing very well there. They're kind and caring, and he's progressing well. I don't have any problems with them. We don't see everything that goes on, but all of our dealings with them have been good. He has not had complaints. They have a daily schedule of activities that they post, and they seem to be doing enough of them. The facilities are new, clean, and kept up. The rehab areas are nice. There is a salon, a chapel, and separate rooms for rehab, which he's been pleased with. "

"My mom was in Rosewood a month ago. As far as the rehab part -- the OT and the PT -- it was excellent -- very good. They included her in all the activities, they went and got her, and they brought her out because she wouldn't remember to go. They made sure she got up to breakfast, lunch, and dinner so she could be with other people at the table to eat, and that was great. So, if it was for socialization, it was wonderful. She participated in the activities, she did her PT and her OT, and that part was great; that part was excellent. She had to have wound care because she had edema, and her legs just got so big, they split, and she had to have wound care, but I am not sure if they were kind of qualified or really knew how to handle it. They wrapped and bandaged it, but they were supposed to use solutions and wrap it every other day, and I just don't think they knew how to do that or were trained how to do that. So for that part, she got better care with that in the hospital than she did at rehab. But all in one, it was a great experience, she loved it, and they were very good to her, but I also went every day to make sure that everything was done the way it should be. I absolutely would recommend Rosewood for rehab, but I don't know about the nursing home part because we weren't part of that. "
