"My cousin is a resident of American House Southland. She's been in rehab more than she's been there, but she's supposed to go back there tomorrow. The people are caring. They have some activities that are run by the facility, but they also have a bunch that are run by the residents. My cousin enjoyed the dance with some good music, and that was by the facility. They have church services on Wednesday and Sunday. They do movies, they have a library, they have a pool table, and a place where they can do jigsaw puzzles, and a place to play cards and dominoes. They provide the place for it, and a lot of times it's the residents who get things going. She said the food is good. The facility is very clean, and they do a good job coming and cleaning the apartments. Her apartment is nice and functional. She's got a stove and a refrigerator, and she brought her own microwave. It's got a balcony, which is nice. We had a little electrical trouble in the apartment, but they fixed it. It just took a while."

The building is always clean, warm, and welcoming, and my parents have settled in so well. They’re happy, comfortable, and well cared for — and that gives our whole family peace of mind. "Hampton Manor of Trenton is beautiful. I wanted to go there. I didn't see the meals, but the dining rooms were nice. The rooms needed a little more friendliness to them. They were kind of cold and sterile. The only thing I didn't like about them is that it costs $1500 just to walk through the door with a patient, like for them to do the paperwork on it or something. It's above and beyond what you would pay a month. I like that they give the patient's family a code to put in the door. That was a good deal. They have a courtyard, and during nice weather, the patients can get outside and enjoy the fresh air. They can't get to the road or anything like that. It's a really nice courtyard they could go to. The lady who toured us was very informative and very nice. She also straight-out told you what all the expenses were."

"Henry Ford Village is the best thing that ever happened to my mother. She told me the time she spent there were the best years of her life. She had a lovely one-bedroom apartment with a washer/dryer in the apt. The kitchen was updated with a flat topped stove, large refrigerator, dishwasher, and granite counters. She had a step-in shower with a built in seat. The people, both staff and residents, were friendly, welcoming and kind. The community offers everything from poker to oil painting, yoga to water aerobics. The grounds are beautiful and the buildings updated and warm. My mother couldn’t have found a better community. Several people moved from more expensive retirement communities on the north side to HFV because of the welcoming atmosphere. We are truly blessed to have this resource in our community."

"My husband is at American House Westland Venoy, and I can't really complain. I don't have no negativity as far as him being there. The physical appearance of the place is good. I'm not gonna say it's modern, but it's well-kept. The staff is courteous and very informative. He gets breakfast there, but sometimes he doesn't want to eat it. There are days when it's good, and there are days when he doesn't eat his meals. They have a calendar of activities. They do coloring, toss basketball, exercise video, and puzzles; he doesn't really participate. I wish it could be cheaper. They have amenities like a salon. I think maybe he could use another light, but he's got a little lamp. They also have a garden patio. Right now, they got it decorated for Halloween."

"Blessed Assisted Living & Memory Care had a nice atmosphere and I liked all the activities they were telling me about. I saw one room and it was very roomy and sort of like a room in a home. The staff was very knowledgeable and they tried to answer all the questions I asked. They gave me a lot of input. I saw the game rooms and the dining area was also a nice room."

"It is very nice, and they have lots to offer. It is the location that we are looking at because my children are living further south. I have nothing bad to say about them. They have field trips to the casino and to special events like opera or plays. They answered everything we have questions for. "

"I like The Westland House. It would have been my second choice. The staff was friendly, and the place appeared to be clean from what I saw. The rooms were nice and large. They check on their residents five times a day, which I was impressed about. My interaction was limited to the person who showed us the place, and she was friendly. The people when you walked in the door were also friendly. We saw the cafeteria. I like the fact that they provide snacks for the seniors even after their mealtime hours. So, at night, if they got hungry, they were willing to give them snacks. That's good for them. They have various activities also for them."

"I chose American House Westland Hunter. It's got Woods around it, and it's not right on main street. Good meals, the people were very nice, and the apartment had a lot of storage space. They gave us a meal when we first went there, my son and I, they gave us a couple to take home. It was very good. They have cards, they have a lot of different activities, and they take you places. They only have one elevator. They were very, very nice, the one that took me to see the apartment, her name was Seta, and she was very nice."

"Right now my mom is at my sister, but we did visit a couple of American Houses. As a matter of fact if she had to be placed to one facility, I'd like her to put her on American House Livonia. That facility is very nice. It's close to home. They were very personable. They gave us lunch and it was just very nice. I like the layout of the place. Some of the rooms were built around like a little courtyard. They can go out to the courtyard, but they couldn’t go anywhere else. The rooms were spacious enough and they had a little kitchenette. They had activities going on. When we were there, they have exercise classes. They also have little game room where they can do puzzles. "

"My mom has been here since April and for several months I was extremely happy with the facility, the staff was great when it came to the care of the residents. The only problem I had in the beginning was missing clothes and shoes. Recently the staff and administrators have changed and not for the better, I don’t understand why the change because the old staff was the best, no one is hardly available to address my concerns and the nursing staff is not as professional like the old staff which I wish could come back. At this point I’m looking for a new facility especially since they have increased their fees $200.00 and their services are no longer worth it. The only thing that is consistent from the time my mom moved in would be the activity director Bridgit, she is amazing and has my mother very active. It saddens me to see this beautiful place and staff in the beginning to change so drastically to the point I’m removing my mother from her comfort zone but I can’t keep her there. We had a life scare and Jatonya noticed she wasn’t breathing right called ems which I was told had it been any later she wouldn’t be here today. She is no longer there and that’s sad she was excellent at her job and I don’t feel this new staff are as attentive as the old staff, while I visit no one comes and check on her which they never know when we visit for this unhappiness I feel now she’s going to leave as soon as I find another happy place. I’m so sad to do this to my mom but the only thing to keep her there would be to return the old staff completely"
