"I spent a year and a half in Wyandotte at Bishop Co-op. I could not afford to live there anymore because my rent was going up by $400. Different insurance companies bring in traveling nurses and so on. While I was there, there were visiting nurses all the time. However, I didn't get involved with their bingo or their outings. I was not involved with activities. I brought in my own food, and I did my own cooking. The layout of the place was great. The problem was that they were having problems with the elevators. When I was moving out, they were in the middle of overhauling the elevators. Most of the residents could not walk up and down stairs, and they were very dependent on elevators. Before, it was run by HUD, and then it was switched over to the State of Michigan. The State of Michigan raised rates, so there were a lot of people who were independent living who could not live there anymore."

"My aunt will be moving into Hampton Manor of Trenton. When I went there, they had the rooms staged, like a bed and a table. Cable is free and all that stuff. They do everything for one price. It's all on one floor. It's more convenient than the other place. Everything was just nice. I would tell my kids to put me there if I had to go to a nursing home. They have a warm breakfast. You have more options for your loved one. It was very good, well-run and very clean. It's a newer place, so it's going to look a lot nicer. The staff was excellent. Their kitchen and their cafeterias are five. They do lots of activities for the elderly people. The doors lock automatically, so the dementia people can't get out."

The building is always clean, warm, and welcoming, and my parents have settled in so well. They’re happy, comfortable, and well cared for — and that gives our whole family peace of mind. "I was rather impressed with the facility. Given the things one sees on the news and reads online about conditions in assisted-living facilities, I was a bit anxious the first time I visited said relative (whom I will call M) at the American House. She seemed to enjoy living there when I spoke with her on the phone prior to visiting, but what one says and reality are not always the same thing.As I said, I was impressed. The grounds were well-maintained and looked very nice. The staff members I came in contact with were all very polite and helpful, and they seemed generally very fond of M, and she them. M had a tendency to distrust people by default, so there were a few she "wasn't sure of," but I imagine that would be the case anywhere she lived.She seemed to get along with the other residents well, also. There was one resident who seemed to dislike her, as she told me, but, again, such things happen anywhere.I did notice a bit of litter near one of the doorways, but I brought it to the attention of a staff member, and she seemed attentive enough, going off to find someone to attend to the problem.Overall, it seemed a good place for M to live. I would have rather her live with family -- everyone would I imagine -- but barring that possibility, it seemed a good, clean, healthy place for her. "

"I am a resident of Maple Heights. It's a very pleasant place, and everybody here is so friendly and helpful, so I do like it. The staff was wonderful. They want to help in every way, so I like them very much. I like everything that they've served, it's been good. They have exercise downstairs and they have Bible studies downstairs. Yesterday or the day before, a lady came and played the flute and the music was very entertaining. They have a TV room where everybody can go in there to watch TV together and associate. They've got card games and different crafts and all of that. The biggest reason too is the money because it was the most reasonable."

"We toured Flat Rock Towers Co-op. The rooms are very large and have a lot of closet space and good safety features. All the amenities that I like are there. It's got everything you need. In the outside sitting area, there's a river right outside where you can sit by the river if you want. It's just very nice and relaxing-looking. The staff was so nice to me and my daughter. She just showed me everything and tried to explain everything, and as we went along with people that we kind of ran into, she would introduce us, and those people would tell us that it's a nice place to live. She was very knowledgeable about what was happening there, the bulletin boards, and how you keep up on what's happening outside like in the area, the churches, and stuff where they would have their bazaars. It was just lovely. I liked her. She made me feel so comfortable and welcome. It was an older establishment, but it was very clean."

"The assisted living of Allegria Village was on the first floor with 14 rooms in there. If you want to do anything, you pretty much have to go to a different floor, because there's nothing available right on their floor. It's a gated community and the place was too big. You've got to get in and out. It's new and they were actually doing a lot of remodeling. The staff was really good. They had a movie area, some kind of bingo room, and little activity rooms."
