Annandale is a community located in Fairfax County, Virginia, that offers a distinct blend of historic interest and ethnic diversity. Known for its large Korean population, the area is home to numerous authentic dining experiences and unique cultural events. With its many outdoor recreational opportunities and easy access to Washington, D.C., it’s no wonder that over 6,000 seniors call Annandale home.
Seniors who wish to age in place in the Annandale area have access to a number of local home care services at a lower cost than the national average. According to Gentworth’s 2018 Cost of Care Survey, the average hourly cost for in-home care is $19.25 per hour and $20.25 per hour for home health care services. The average national costs for these services are $21 and $22 in the same categories, respectively. This means that seniors in Annandale may be saving more than $300 in home care costs on a monthly basis.
Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Annandale, so data for the closest city, Winchester was used.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Annandale area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Our goal is to provide our clients a chance to live or recover and happily manage
healthier lives at home.

You determine the hours of care you need and we will work with you to meet your
individual needs, in other words we do not advocate for a one size fits all model.

are more than happy to accommodate you.

bonded agency, letting you enjoy affordable care and peace of mind. We keep
our expenses low by not running expensive advertisement campaigns and this
allows us to save you money.

Our contracts are simple with no long term commitments and we will even let you
try us for a week with no strings attached.

Our caregivers go through an extensive health and background checks and are

We are willing to accommodate you if you are in need of a caregiver with certain
language requirements.

We require our caregivers to be COVID free and perform testing as warranted.

Three agency owners, John, Jim and Niran met at a previous work place and
formed the agency based on their own difficulties experienced while looking for
quality care for their parents and loved ones. They are approachable and just a

I hired Home Instead to help my elderly aunt, who is like a second mother to me. She lives in Virginia, and I live in Texas. So I could not be with her while she recovered from hip surgery. Every step of my experience with Home Instead was easy, and the staff have been professional, responsive and caring. Within a couple of days after I called, Home Instead met with my aunt (and me over the phone) to determine her needs. We mutually determined she needed a caregiver in her house M-F for several weeks until she finished her recovery and felt confident in taking over all household tasks. After that meeting, Home Instead had a professional caregiver at her house in 2 business days. The caregiver was lovely – patient, friendly and professional.
Making the decision to hire someone to come into your home (or a loved one’s home) is not easy. Home Instead makes the entire process manageable and pleasant.

Annandale Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Annandale:
Address: 7610 Newcastle Drive, Annandale, VA 22003
Phone; (703) 941-1419
Sponsored by a number of area congregations and community groups, the Shepherd’s Center is a non-profit, interfaith organization that provides services for local seniors aged 50 and older to help them continue to live independently in their own homes and maintain a sense of involvement in the community. Services include a volunteer transportation service to take seniors to medical appointments, free of charge, as well as the Handy Helpers volunteer home repair program. The center also hosts bi-monthly luncheons featuring speakers and entertainment, and offers day trips and an educational lecture series.
Address: 3700 Pender Drive, Suite 300, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-6039
Phone: (703) 246-5179
Developed by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Home Repair for the Elderly Program (HREP) is designed to assist residents of Fairfax county aged 62 and older living on a low to moderate income with minor home repairs. Services include interior and exterior painting, window and door repair, plumbing and electrical work, as well as accessibility modifications. The program is completely free of charge, and provides eligible seniors with a crew to complete one week’s labor and covers the cost of materials up to $500.
Address: 12011 Government Center Parkway, Suite 708, Fairfax, VA 22035
Phone: (703) 324-5409
The Meals on Wheels (MOW) program is available to provide meals for adults aged 60 and older in Fairfax County who are unable to shop for groceries or prepare their own meals at home. The service includes a delivery of two daily meals: a hot lunch and a cold meal with a sandwich. Meals are prepared in local nursing homes, hospitals or by the Fairfax County Public School System, and are delivered by community volunteers Monday through Friday, with weekend services available in some areas. The service is free of charge, though participants do have the opportunity to contribute to the cost of the service if they are able.
Address: 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 223, Fairfax, VA 22035
Phone: (703) 222-8234
To lessen the financial burden that seniors face, the Department of Tax Administration (DTA) offers a tax relief program for residents of Fairfax County aged 65 and older, or who are disabled. The program offers tax exemptions on real estate, personal property, household vehicle and rent, making it easier for seniors to age in place.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
