I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was here for over 3 years. During the pandemic. The care was amazing. She loved the food and the activities. I was impressed by the number of nurses on staff at an assisted living. I was not used to seeing nurses pass the medications- most places use Med Techs- at least around here. The staff were just happy to be there- and that means a lot. Keep it up for the future residents! I know you will.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband's aunt came to The Gardens after a poor experience at a nearby nursing home. The staff were great. I was surprised by the number of nurses being it an Assisted Living. The apartments were nice. She loved the food. She thrived with the Activities. It has so far been quite a blessing from her previous nursing home experience. Thank you all!

I am/was a resident of this facility

The Gardens at Fair Oaks has a lot of activities and they're very strict about the people wearing masks and all. So, they have a great record on that. It's a safe place with lots of things to do on a very nice day. There's more than one dining room, actually, and it's a good place. My wife has dementia and she spends her day in memory care and then she and I can share my apartment at night in the assisted living, in which a lot of places don't allow that. The CNAs are all very good and there are lots of them as well as nurses, and they come right away when you call them. There's a call box system that when you press the button for, they'll be there right away. The food is pretty good too. I just think they could do more to make it tastier than it is, they don't use enough sauces and stuff. It's good but some are better than others. They keep the place clean. They constantly change the beddings and everything. There are exercise classes and in fact, I'm going to go to one in about 10 minutes, then they play bingo every day, show movies all the time, and they bring in outside entertainers to give concerts and what have you. They're very active. The activities department is one of the best.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband is at the Gardens at Fair Oaks, and I do not like it. Although the place is tastefully decorated with lovely things and clean, the staff in the memory care unit are not well trained. Some are good and some are just doing their jobs. They try, but they are not good. The programs that they offer to the residents are not really good at all. They make a big fuss about their activities, but it’s all fuss and no feathers. They also offer a lot of soup, and that was a problem for my husband. We asked if they would put it in cups, and they were very resistant to that, but we insisted.

I visited this facility

I had a friend who was in need of a place, so I decided that I would stop in the Gardens at Fair Oaks looking for her, and I thought it was pretty nice. So I went back to look at it for our needs, and it does look very nice. I have a feeling though that it would be super expensive. It just had a good feeling to it. Their dining room looked very nice, and it was just a nice place. They had a variety of things available. I did look at some of them, and they looked fine. Inside it looked comfortable, it was nicely furnished, and the outside was kind of surrounded by a wooded area. It just had a clean and appealing appearance to it when you go in, and it just felt good.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The Gardens has residential as well as an adult day program and I would say it is an A++ place. The activities director is phenomenal and they have a variety of activities for everyone. They have socials, mass, and exercise every morning. It's a fantastic program. The food is great and it's just a wonderful place. The staff is incredibly attentive and every single person working there is truly all about working with the elderly. They truly love their job and the people there. I would say it's the most caring staff I've ever seen anywhere. My mom's been going there since the end of April and she goes two days a week. She is having a great time there.

I visited this facility

This was more like a home. People were very clean and nice. Everyone looked well cared for. I just thought it was stiff for 4 people to stay in one room and they don't have a lot of activities.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother was a resident of the Gardens at Fair Oaks for over 2 and a half years until her recent passing. I was a very involved daughter and visited my mother almost everyday for the duration of her stay. I saw how the facility operated in the morning, afternoons and early evenings , on weekends and weekdays. The physical building is wonderful. It is kept very clean and attractive and there are multiple locations with comfortable couches/chairs or private dining areas for residents to enjoy on their own or with friends and family. There is always a nurse on staff round the clock which was a criteria of ours. Residents who are still somewhat independent and enjoy others' company will do well there. Unfortunately, my mother wasn't one who liked to be among 'strangers' and she did not enjoy all of the group activities. Because of this, the staff wasn't always sure how to deal with her. My mother was a fall-risk and when she was in her room on her own most of the time that was problematic for the staff and administration, as she did try to walk on her own using her walker. The 'easy' solution to this situation would have been for me to hire a private duty aide to be with my mother. The cost of this in addition to the facility itself was totally out of the question for our family. It is important to note that many of the residents at the Gardens have private duty aides at least 12 hours a day. This is encouraged by the administration to keep things running smoothly. If you have the money for that and your loved one is pleased by that constant companion, all is well. This was not possible for our family situation and it was a constant dialogue between myself and the administration/staff about keeping my mother safe from falling while respecting her wishes of privacy. On one occasion the staff changed my mother's personal care plan to include more group activities without my consent. This led to a change in my mother's mood and behavior. I must say that the nursing staff at the Gardens is by and large very good, in particular the evening (3 - 11pm) shift. The overall quality of the CNAs is just adequate. Not all CNAs are created equally. It is important for the family to be as involved as possible and keep a watchful eye on how their loved one is being cared for. I have rated this facility overall 3 stars, although 2 1/2 may be most accurate. I would give the direct care staff overall a 3 or 3 1/2. The administration I would give one star. The bottom line seems to be often more important than the consideration of what is best for each resident.
