"My mother has very limited vision, so she needed a small environment. She has a very spacious 1-bedroom at Chesterbrook Residences. She moved from a small home, so I was concerned about her ability to adjust to a smaller environment. The apartments are wonderful and she's very comfortable. Given her limited vision, it's really very appropriate for her. I was able to paint the color of our choosing and moved in all the furniture that she wanted. The food is fabulous. My mother raves about the food, especially the soup. It's a stable staff, there's not a lot of turnover, and they're very friendly and very caring. They have trips to the Kennedy Center, to restaurants, the local food market, and shopping trips. There's also movie nights, game nights, exercise classes, and they have people coming in playing the piano or a professional dancer who comes in once a month and dances with the residents. My mom is much happier. "

"My mother moved to Cogir of West End Alexandria's memory care. It's a very beautiful community. The attendance of the nurses is very helpful, and the support staff is very supportive. The director is very welcoming and very friendly. The buck stops with him. He takes action immediately if you need something. I haven't had a complaint, but in my experience of trying to get what my mother needed, I can see that he's very receptive and quick to implement what it was that she needed. The staff he gave me to deal with was also very receptive and very professional. I'm very pleased with them. My mother's room is good. I've seen the food and the menu, and they look very healthy. They have activity after activity. Every hour, they're changing and doing something with the people. They take field trips, art sessions, and music sessions. They do let the residents watch TV, but it's not a situation where they're sitting in front of the TV all day. When they watch TV, it's usually a movie in the evening. They don't have the time to watch TV during the day because they're moving them around to different activities."

"It was a very nice facility. It was open and bright. All the people I saw interacting with the tour guide that I had seemed really happy there. The tour guide seemed to know all their likes and dislikes, and it was all very personal. The apartments seemed nice and adequate. I was very impressed by it."

"Everything looked good and fine at Emeritus at Manassas. It’s really a question of what she felt comfortable with. The staff was fine and helpful; everything was fine, clean, and well-organized. They had class and bingo as part of their activities. "

"I toured. I felt it was not as big as the others and it had a little bit more homey type feeling. The staff was great. I liked the coziness of the whole facility. The reason we didn't go with them was that they didn't have availability, and we wanted immediate availability."

"The Landing Alexandria is good. My parents have a nice view. It's a very clean, nice facility, but it also costs $11,000 a month. They have a one-bedroom apartment. They have everything there. You can get massages, you can get your hair done, and you can get your nails done. You could do it all if you have the money. They have a courtyard, a penthouse, a very nice game room, and a very nice dining hall. They're getting what seems like fair market value for what they're paying when I compare them to everything else. The reason I chose this place over some others is because the timing was right, and it's close to where I live."

"We visited Cogir of Old Town, Alexandria, and toured for assisted living. The tour was fine, and it was a nice building. The lady was very nice and told us everything that we needed to know. It was right there on the corner, and once we got inside, it was very nice. It had a very nice appearance and interior, and it was well laid out. They showed us the layout and what they do there. I kinda like it a little bit because, in their system, they had a gentleman who was the coordinator of the activities. He showed us all the games, and that's one of the things that I like about it. They played checkers, and they had puzzles and stuff like that, so there were a lot of things to do. They had everything that you needed, like a salon, where you could do your nails and hair. They had a nice place where you could walk. They also showed us the outside patio, and it was very nice. The person who gave us the tour was at the door when we came in, and asked us if we wanted refreshments or if there was anything we wanted before she started her tour. After the tour was over, she asked if there were any questions that we needed her to answer, and she answered them. We didn't eat, but they showed us the dining area, which is very clean and very well-kept."

"We've chosen Acclaim at Belmont Bay for my mom. The facility is amazing. It is clean and lively, and there's a good amount of people visibly enjoying their time there. It is also very upscale. The apartments are luxurious. The atmosphere is active and comfortable. They have a lot of activities for the residents there. The most important thing is they provide transportation for appointments within 5 miles. They have a salon, a gym, a pool, a game room, and a dog grooming center."

"I like the staff at Chevy Chase House. They seemed to be very caring and approachable. It's on Connecticut Avenue, though, so if you were going up there to visit a resident, parking would be very difficult. It's an older facility but it was clean and well-kept."

"I saw Potomac Place for my uncle. When I did the tour I liked the way it's kind of tucked back. When you drive down into it, that's the only thing that's back in that area; it's kind of surrounded like a wooded area, even though it's very close to Route 1. When you walk in, it's a nice, big open area. To the left they had a sitting area where there was a puzzle out, and chairs with newspapers and things like that. And then the administrative offices to the right. There's a check-in person sitting right in front when you come in. The dining facility was straight ahead. When I went, they were going down for dinner, and there was a lot of activity, people moving around and talking. I was impressed, because for the age of the building I thought it was very well-maintained. It smelled nice. The administrative was very quick with getting with me and taking me on a tour. They showed me the different facilities, different rooms that they had, and different accommodations. They had five studios and a one-bedroom. They didn't have any studios that were not occupied at the moment, but the lady who lived in one was very kind and was OK with me looking around, and so I was able to see what that space looked like. The follow-up was really nice, too. They got back in contact with me, which I appreciate because it's not with a call. They left me a recorded video, a video message letting me know that if I had any questions they were there to answer them. I thought it was a nice looking, well-maintained facility, and the people who were there seemed happy. It's nice to see them moving around and not just sitting. They don't have the residents separated out. Everybody is kind of mixed in there together, so you couldn't really tell that in one apartment was someone receiving memory care, and then another one was receiving assisted living. They're all kind of in there together. I only met the person who gave me the tour, and the front desk person. It's no different than many other places. It's just a lot of the places that I have visited were very cost prohibitive for someone who's on a very limited income. That's so unfortunate because the people who really need the care can't afford it."

"I liked Wingler House. The apartment was pretty nice. The bathroom was a little small, and the kitchen was a little small, but it had a pantry for the kitchen, which I liked. The person who toured me was fine, but not very pleasant. They had more activities than some of the others, like exercise classes. They also had vans that go places."
