"Kentlands Manor was a great place, very nice, and very brightly lit. There's a lot of activities. It's a very beautiful place. It had balconies for everybody and you could just sit out there and read. It's very convenient. There's a small town around there and a small shopping center. It is very pleasant. It has very nice surroundings. It's a small village living. It's a very nice neighborhood, well kept, and very clean. Inside the building, there's a lot of space to move around. Each floor had a library. There were windows, so there was a lot of sun that came in. The staff was very friendly. There weren't too many people there because it was more like the middle of the day, but the people were friendly and nodded their heads. Some didn't respond. Other than that, it seemed like a very pleasant place. A couple blocks down, there are restaurants and everything like that. You do your own cooking in your own apartment, and you could do DoorDash or whatever. As far as any prepared meals, they had none. The dining area was small. I just heard that most people probably ate in their apartments more than anything else. The staff gave me a schedule of activities. They had something every day there. The best part about it is they had the gym three times a week. They had shopping trips. They went to the casino once a month. They had craft projects there. Every day, there was something to do. They had activity rooms, they showed movies either once or twice a month, and they had a game room. Each floor had a space where you could sit and read. They had tables set up for games. There's a parking space for you there. It's very clean. Everything seemed to be in place. Nothing was just lying around or thrown around or whatever. It's very decorative. The lobby was very pretty when you came in, even the hallways were clean, and you didn't find trash, even in the little activity rooms they had on each floor. It was always clean, maintained, and very nice."

"We looked at The Carnegie at Washingtonian Center. It's two years old, so everything is brand new. It has nine-foot ceilings, so it's a very spacious feeling. They have a continuing education program that sounded very interesting. However, I probably won't be able to afford it. Nevertheless, the people working there were very friendly and knowledgeable about the place and what they offered."

"I believe that the experience was a positive one as they never bothered me when I would visit my father. The staff was kind of ho-hum and appeared to be going through the motions, not necessarily personable but their to their do jobs effectively. It may just be a sign of Northern Virginia as that tends to be most of our attitudes. I felt the facilities were adequate and well kept. There were a number of paths you could take to stroll around and the landscaping was nicely done. There were a number of activities set up for the seniors to enjoy and it seemed like more of a place for someone to go while they needed help living rather than a hospice situation where you expected the patient to die. All in all, I think they are more equipped to help the healthy that need assistance rather than people in dire straits. "

"I just moved into Hillside Senior Apartments. I pay $1160 a month. That's for independent living. All utilities are included. It's a nice place. It used to be a hotel at one time. The only thing I disagree with is they need more maintenance men. They only have one maintenance man here. The resident manager and the receptionist are good at trying to help everybody get situated, but they only have one guy who takes care of everything. The people in the office are trying to help and they try their best. Sometimes on holidays, they have things going on and they supply food for those things. They do activities sometimes maybe four or five times out of the month. They've got bingo, cookouts, dancing classes, and yoga classes. They have a gym room."

"Everything was good at Victory Court Senior Apartments. I saw an apartment that had an electric stove, but I don't like electric stoves. They had activities available for the residents. The staff there was very nice."

"Chesterbrook Residences is a fairly new place, so everything is very nice. The apartment has living room, little kitchenette, bedroom, and bathroom. They have different activities every day like chair exercises, bingos, and every night they have movies. They do take them to grocery store, doctor's appointments, go on a trip and see the autumn leaves. Everybody's very friendly. They learn new resident's name very quickly and they always call them by name. They have nursing staff 24 hours a day. Recently, she twisted her ankle and they have physical therapy on site. It's been very good. "

"I was interested with Sunrise at Montgomery Village, but it was too far away. The residents looked happy. I really liked the dining area for the independent living because it was the first thing I noticed. The place was organized and clean. The independent living was more luxurious, but the assisted living was short of that. "

"I toured Maplewood Park Place for independent living, and the staff gave us an excellent tour. She took us into one of the bedrooms that I'm interested in, and we didn't have anything negative to say about that. Overall, the place was excellent and the gal who gave us the tour was great and very, very friendly. They have a sunroom and a 1-bedroom, and some of the rooms had a den. We were there on a Saturday at lunchtime, so there weren't many activities going on but we saw a lot of the residents coming out for lunch. The gal taking us around always would introduce us to them. In terms of amenities, they have everything and they offer everything. They have a gym, and they have various trips you can take where you just sign up on the sheet, and she mentioned to us that they have three meals a day if you choose. The staff that I met were all very pleasant."

"I found the Paragon Assisted Living Potomac House Communities for my father. It's a group home. He moved in and he loves it -- the best place he's ever lived. This was perfect for him. The staff is great, my father feels very special there, it's very small, only eight residents, so it's very individualized. It's like they really care. He has the same, consistent people all the time. They have a chef who comes in every day and prepares the food. It's a brand-new facility, it's not even a year old. It's well-maintained. They clean the room every day. They have nice, big, open hallways. They have minimal activities, and they could probably do better for people who have the ability to do stuff. They're a great alternative to a bigger facility."

"What I like about Brookdale Manassas is that they have an on-site, live-in manager. They have all kinds of activities like bingo and movies. They also have a library and other kinds of social activities for the residents. "

"It's beautiful, and the staff's friendliness are the things that I liked about The Fairmont. It's independent living, so they don’t really provide assisted care; that is why it didn’t fit our needs. "

"I was here and they are very nice. They had nice lectures and wonderful activities. The problem is that they area inhabited by older people and I'm tired of living with older people; they are mean. With regards to the staff, I didn’t like that they would come in to my room at night to give me my pill. I feel it's a transgression of my living space. These sort of things is something you can't find out by visiting the place by just being in the lobby or dining room as such. You have to be in the facility to know what it's like."

"Modena Reserve at Kensington was very nice. It was located close to restaurants, but it was just a very expensive place. The staff was very nice, and it was nice of them to refer me to something in the price range that my brother needed to be. She didn't try to push me away, she just tried to accommodate me even though she knew it was way over what we could afford."
