I made the decision to be involved in work that provided a meaningful service and a way to give back to our community. Both Tim and I have experienced the struggles of finding the right home care for our families. In the 1990’s, Tim’s mother had the challenge of a husband with dementia. At that time, she felt there were no other options other than to put him in an institution. Ten years later while we were living abroad, Tim’s mother faced another challenge of having to struggle with cancer on her own, unable to find adequate in-home care before she passed away. I came into this business not only as an owner, but as a client. After my father had a stroke in 2015, my parents had to face the very difficult decisions that need to be made regarding aging and their care. The vast amount of information and resources out there can be overwhelming! We continue to experience the emotional toll this takes on a family and I understand the difficult task of choosing care for the people you love. I believe my personal experiences give me a unique understanding in how to provide a better service to our clients. They come 4 hours a day -- 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. "Home Instead provides a companion in the house who comes twice a week for 4 hours each time. He is here to help me get around the house safely, to bring my lunch and medications at noon and to provide some social contact. I feel very safe in the house with him here. Also important is that by having a companion in the house my wife gets "time off" to go out for walks, meet with her friends, run errands and be free to leave the house without worrying about me. Any changes we need to make in this schedule have been easily handled by the agency. When my companion needs to make changes an alternate is always offered. When I have been hospitalized for a few days there has been no problem in changing/cancelling services with little previous notice. This is a very helpful, knowledgeable agency that really does provide personalized services."
