Having visited a few nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the past to conduct research on depressed residents, I am quite pleased with Mayfair Meadow's assisted living community. My grandmother has been a resident for over four years and she has nothing but kind words to say about the staff, her local neighbors, and the overall cleanliness of the facility. I frequently visit my grandmother and am pleased with the assertiveness, reliability, and care my grandmother has received at this community. She feels secure and safe--especially with the multiple fire alarms, local police accessibility, and high tech alarm software. Her experience has been extremely positive throughout her stay--she especially enjoys the dining facilities, the friendliness of the employees, and the local events this assisted living community provides!

Mayfair Meadows was dreary, it really needed sprucing up. There were four in a room, I didn't like that. It wasn't spacious for four people to have four dressers and four beds and couple of closets. One lady in the room had a TV, so she either had the TV on or the radio. You can't expect people to tolerate that without complaining. That was not good. I told the owner in the past that the staff needed some bedside manners. They were intimidating, bossy, loud, accusatory. There is not much empathy or compassion.

My father stayed here for about six months between his stay in the hospital and his return home. It was conveniently close to our home and other relatives' homes, so that they could easily visit, and we did visit before we made the commitment. It's about a mile to Nazareth Hospital, which is where my father's team of doctors were located. It's within a park, so the scenery is quite nice. My father also seemed to like it, and we were hopeful that this was a good place for him.The quality of care here was about average, but it was not consistent. There would be a few very caring, helpful, knowledgeable nurses. The other nurses were rude, abrupt, and acted very ignorant. Many of them smoked, which bothered both my father and I. They would not stop, which is understandable, but they rudely denied it. They always reeked of smoke and had nicotine stains on their fingertips. I don't think honesty is a priority at this place, and it should have been. It certainly was for us. We worried that something bad might happen, and they would then lie about it. We withdrew my father earlier than planned because we felt that he was not safe in that home.Other than that, Mayfair Meadows seemed very similar to other assisted living homes that we had visited. They had similar amenities and facilities. Had they fired the bad nurses, he probably would have stayed for longer.
