My wife was admitted on a ventilator with an irreversible coma. It was a difficult case, requiring constant care. Mary Sue rallied briefly and opened her eyes several times for visitors and nurses, but ultimately passed away after 3 months. Her care was excellent and I had a constructive dialog with staff as we looked at options.

We visited Stow Glen Assisted Living and our visit was very good. The rooms were very nice and clean. They have a library, game room, and pastors come in, both Catholic and Protestant. It was nice, and the dining area was very nice.

We were not impressed with Stow Glen Assisted Living. The rooms were dismal, and some of them actually didn’t have a window. It was even worse than a hospital room. Each resident had an assigned seat at the dining room and was not allowed to sit anywhere else. It was right beside a skilled nursing place, and it smelled. Our tour was scheduled, but they didn’t know we were coming. They said that because too many people never showed up, they didn’t bother to look at the schedule anymore.

Stow Glen was very nice, but one thing I didn't like about it was it didn't have a bedroom door on the 1-bedroom apartment. The only lady we met was very nice and informative. The rooms were normal-sized and pretty roomy. They had quite a few things to do, and it was a lovely location. They can just improve on the bedroom door because that turned me off immediately.

The price of Stow Glen was very reasonable compared to a few others that I visited, and it was in a nice neighborhood. The apartments were adequate and of a nice size. I looked at a one-bedroom with a little kitchen inside of it and an outdoor patio. I ate there, and the meal was fine. They had lots of activities.

My mom is in Stow Glen. The experience has been 100% positive. They are incredibly helpful, very kind, very accommodating and understanding. I feel she is safe there. They are personable. It is an employee owned facility, so everyone that works there forms part of the company. Everybody is personally interested. It is a nice, little, Christian based community and my mom is a Christian. They have Church services a couple of times a week. The residents too are so friendly and forthcoming. They have just been very good. We are very satisfied. She has a one-bedroom apartment with two rooms with nice little living room and a kitchen. She is in the independent living wing, but they have assisted living and nursing care too. Most of the independent places have little refrigerator. They redo her unit before she moved in. She has a refrigerator, a bathroom, a shower, the emergency cord and decent storage. The one fee a month covers absolutely everything. She needs very little extra money to take care of her dog and any extra snack foods and things that she wants. It is really a good facility. They have things scheduled every day, like crafts, bingo, music and exercises. They have things scheduled so everybody can get together and go to some walks. They have shuttles that take them to doctor's appointment, shopping, to bingo and other facilities. There is something going on every day. If they are in the independent and they do need a little assistance, you can add services that come to their apartment so they can stay in the independent and have assistance.

We were not impressed with Stow Glen. It smelled like a nursing home and looked like a nursing home. It’s older. People seemed very nice, but the residents didn’t seem to be really happy. It is a locked facility. They seemed to do a lot of activities. The day we were there, they were doing activities for very low functioning people. It was not the kind of place for my mom at all. Some staff seemed very nice, and some seemed like they were at work during their job and couldn’t wait to get out of there. They have apartments in the back which people come help with medicines and stuff and inside the actual building; they have private inns.

My mother is in Stow Glen. She has a small apartment with a bedroom, a living area, and a small kitchenette. There is no stove, but you can have a meal there. It is very clean. They have activities for the people who live there. They have bingo on a regular basis, church services, and other things for people to do. They go to different places every so often, and they have a certain day when they can go shopping. They have medical personnel on the premises, if they are needed. The staff seems to be very caring. They seem to know what they are doing, and my mother seems to like them. It seems like a very nice place.

My friend lived at Stow Glen Assisted Living for about five years. He was happy there and he was pretty much independent until he passed away. The staff was very friendly.

It smelled a bit like baby powder and something else that I am unable to place. The care seemed to be good for the residents, but many seemed lonely and like they didn't get many visitors. They provide activities often for the residents as well. I got a sad feeling there though. The residents seemed to put on a facade of happiness and seemed to be really sad inside. I guess it may have been due to the fact, as mentioned before, they don't get many visitors. The food looked to be of average quality. The staff seemed to treat the residents as if they were young children who couldn't understand simple language. It is sad that in today's society, the elderly aren't revered as much as they were back in the day or in other countries, such as Japan. They do a decent job of taking care of residents, but it still could be better.
