We love The Village of St. Edward at Fairlawn. We love the progression of care that my sister could get at the one facility and not having to move her. They have a lot of activities. It's a Catholic-based facility and she is very religious and a Catholic, so that was appealing to her. We just took a tour there, and she fell in love with it. They have a lake with ducks. The library is just through the parking lot, and she can go into the library and get books. She takes SCAT and it is still within range of her being able to live there and have her take her back and forth to work. She works two days a week, sometimes three days a week. She can only work 10 days a month, but that was important, too, that she was able to do that. She is currently in independent living. The staff has been fantastic in helping my sister transition. They have encouraged her to take part in activities to make sure right off the bat that she knew different options that were available to her. They placed her with some people that she was comfortable about going down to dinner. They introduced me to people that had some activities going on. She's very, very happy with the staff there. They check on her. One thing that she likes, too, which was sweet, is they get to select their dinner, so there is all these options. You get to choose your main course, your sides, desserts and things like that. She likes that. Sometimes when she gets home from work, it's past the dinner hour, and so when she gets to her room, her meal is waiting in the room for her. They do clean sheets and towels every week. They are her sheets and her towels, but they launder them and put them back in the bathroom and back in the bedroom, which she always struggled with the ability to make that. It's pretty common to us, but it was something that she struggled with, so that was great. They have activities outside and inside that she partakes in. They have bingo inside, and they have like A Night at the Races type of thing that she likes to do, too. They have different bars, they like puzzles, and people get together to play card games. They have an open house. We did not go to that. It was actually at a different location, but they make sure that she is aware of everything that she can do. They go to breakfast once a week. They took a tour of downtown Akron, all of the highlights of the city. They have these little getaways and she always signs up for it. They have a bus on Sunday morning, so if you sign up, they take you to the Catholic Church, and she is really happy doing that. They also have masses at the facility, but she does like taking the bus and going to church. We have absolutely no complaints. Not one thing have we been upset about or concerned about. It has just been a very good fit for her. Anytime we come, we're invited to join them for dinner. The first night that she was there that we moved her in, we were welcomed to stay for dinner. That's the only time we've eaten there, but it was very good. She has meat options, fish options, and vegetarian options. It is an appetizer, the main course, and dessert. If she doesn't like anything that they have for the main course of the selection, she can have a hamburger or a turkey sandwich and soup or whatever she wants, and she's thrilled with the options. Eating is really important to her, so she is quite pleased with that. My sister wears an alert when she gets home from work. She can wear it around her neck or on her wrist. If she falls or if anything happens, she can just alert them and that makes her feel safe and secure. They're very good. They send me the bill, and I pay that. They have like a little sundry store there that she can go and get little snacks if she wants or if she needs some common things like household items or something, they have that, too. They have a nice balance of keeping an eye on her but not smothering her or limiting her or mothering her, but if she needs somebody there, they're there in a heartbeat. She gets her hair cut there now, she'll be getting her nails done there now, and that's another plus that I don't have to take her for that.

The Village of St. Edward was a very nice facility. The staff was wonderful, and I liked everything about their facilities. My aunt has had great care there, they just don't have availability at this point for my other aunt.

I had my mother in this facility when recovering from a broken ankle. She spent 5 months there recovering. Before she went there she was taking care of herself, was able to transfer to her mobile chair and get around very good. They did absolutely nothing to get her up and moving again. I finally pulled her out because 5 months had passed and I could see nothing was happening. She has lost complete use of her one leg because not once did they ever rehab her to to the point of getting out of bed, or even sitting up in bed and trying to stand up. She laid in bed for months and now I am starting all over trying to get her to sit up by herself and possibly put weight on her feet again. We even got to the point where they stopped therapy, even though they never got her out of bed. She pretty much was left there in bed and has now lost all muscle. This wasn’t rehab! She has no movement on one side of her body. She requires 24/7 care now. Unfortunately due to Covid I couldn’t see what was going on or I would have pulled her out sooner. The only good thing my mom could say about this facility is it was clean. I would not recommend this place for skilled rehab.

My brother is at The Village at St Edward for long-term care. Everything looks great. We are real happy to have him move in there. There are private and semi-private rooms, but because of the cost we selected a semi-private. They're providing physical therapy and meals for him. They have a dining room, a library, a lounge, and a courtyard. We have taken him outside to walk around.

My mom was at The Village at St Edward for three months. Everything was fine. The staff was fine but the food should be better. They didn't have enough staff. Being that it is a Catholic nursing home, they have a built-in chapel. That was the main reason why we wanted to go there. If you're Catholic, it's a wonderful amenity that they have that onsite. It's an older home. The rooms were built 60 years ago. They're not modern or up-to-date accommodations but they're adequate for people that require skilled nursing services.

Village at St Edward was surrounded by a lot of green grass, rolling hills, and trees. The staff was very helpful, nice, warm, and caring. They have all sorts of arts and crafts and social get together as well as they offer day trips on a bus. The dining room was under renovation.

My mom has only been at The Village at St. Edward for two weeks, and so far it’s been good. We have been unable to experience much, but so far she likes it. There are a lot of services that they provide, and she likes the food over there. They do have activities several times a week. If you have a doctor’s appointment, they’ll drive you to your doctor’s appointment. If people want to go to the grocery store or some other store, they will do that. They do once-a-week vacuuming, and cleaning up of your unit; things like that. They cleaned her room all up, put new carpet in, painted everything, and she seems to be very pleased over there. One of her cousins, and a couple other people that she knew are there too. We haven’t been there long enough really to evaluate everything. So far there are certain things that they say they’ll do, but we haven’t experienced that yet.

The people at The Village were very friendly, but they didn’t have too many places available for us to look at. They only had two different apartments that were a lot older. They had activities, a library, trips to the store, an exercise group, and a walking path, which was in a quadrant, so you can walk around the outside on nice path. It didn’t seem like they had as many activities as the others. They had two meals a day; if you wanted the third, it was extra. There was just something about it that didn’t click with us. All of us agreed that it wasn’t the place for my dad. It’s just wasn’t what we were expecting.

The reason why my mother wanted to go to the Village at St. Edward was because it was a Catholic facility. It seemed like they were equally priced with all the others that we looked at, but that really was the one she wanted to go to. However, she never had the chance because passed away. It was beautiful in appearance. The size of the room was very generous. They had a refrigerator in the mini kitchen, and that was a very big plus. I didn't have a chance to talk to anybody other than one person. She was the administrator, and she was very nice.

I was impressed with their deep concern for people at The Village at St. Edward. It is basically a Catholic facility, but they are open to anybody. The few people that I met that day were helpful. The dining room seemed very pleasant and able to handle the needs of the residents and their various requests. They have all kinds of activities from taking people to the grocery store to entertainment things to sporting events to activities on the premises, religious services, physical therapy and others.

I've been here for four years. It's cheaper and I like the food they serve. Staff is friendly, very dependable, and helpful.
