The city of Round Rock is located in the state of Texas and is part of the greater Austin metropolitan area. Round Rock has a population of about 124,000 people and around 8.2% of residents are aged 65 and over. Seniors in the area have convenient access to medical care facilities at St. David’s Healthcare and Baylor Scott and White Medical Center. According to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020, the average cost of nursing home care in Round Rock is $5,201 for a semiprivate room which is about $2,500 cheaper than the national average.
The cost of nursing home care can be expensive due to the high level of care and assistance offered in this type of facility. Nursing home care is best suited to seniors who are chronically ill and require constant medical and physical care to maintain a quality of life. Family members may want to look at alternative care options such as home care and assisted living if this level of care is not required.
This guide looks at the costs of nursing home care and alternative options in Round Rock.

I am so glad to have found Trinity Care Center! We recently moved to Round Rock after my husband was stationed at Fort Hood and shortly after relocating, my mother needed emergency surgery. Since we have no one close to help care for her needs, I was frantic to find a reputable facility to help rehabilitate my mother back to health. It was a stressful few days as we navigated insurance and determined her needs but Yvette at Trinity was diligent and was able to get things moving quickly. She was very responsive and knowledgeable and answered all my flustered and worried questions. Yvette put my fears at ease and was so friendly. We are forever grateful to have found someplace that treats their patients with care and compassion from admissions to the wonderful nurses and therapists who work together towards a common goal.

When my husband had an ankle replacement, he went to Reliant Rehab as an inpatient. I believe he was there for a week. It is a beautiful facility, sparkling clean! My husband also said it is a wonderful place. He had a private room that was spacious enough for him. They have a cafeteria where patients’, visitors and family can eat and their food is excellent. My husband enjoyed their food too. We actually had a friend who was one of the cooks there and he made sure that they’re cooking something that Gerry really like. I loved the administrator of this facility. He is a young paraplegic and he is just fabulous. All of the physical therapists that we have used are also excellent and very caring. My husband was very happy there as much as he could be in the circumstances.

Do not use this facility for rehab. As I see others have had the same bad experience as we did. My husband was over medicated, went in on Tuesday and by Thurs could not stay wake up, could not feed himself, lost his voice, and had not received any rehabilitation, They simply had him over medicated and laying in a bed all this time. He was so medicated aids could not lift him to get him to the bathroom and when they would get there in time ( which was not always the case) they used a urinal which caused a cut and blisters on him. Had to have him moved to a hospital doctors said he was over medicated It took a week to get him back to normal. Also not enough staff to take care of amount of patients.

When Vivian was my nurse, she did what she could do to help me feel better. Always came in to check on me even after I was finally on pain killing Meds. Never put your loved one in this facility. My Mother is handicapped and has multiple medical issues. The facility is pleasant when you walk into the front, but the nursing home area always smells of urine, carpets are stained, air conditioning in the east hall does not work making the working conditions unbearable.
Many of the Caretakers are just there temporarily to get the bonus money and leave after 3 months. Administration will never give you a callback and the Administrator changes every three months. Definitely understaffed but the caretakers are found standing in the halls laughing and chatting, not answering the lights.
Before I moved my Mother out of there, she was told numerous times that there was no hot water or clean towels and she could not have a shower.
Food was never served in a timely manner and was cold and unappetizing and unappealing.
Aids were often disrespectful to the patients and the patients were scared to report to the authorities for fear of retaliation. Patients were told not to push the button for help all the time. My Mother was taken to the hospital due to urinary tract infection, pneumonia and a falling incident due to a caretaker telling her to hurry up and get dressed.
Money and personal items were frequently stolen from her room.
Rooms are nice but small. Two patients to each room. Private bath in each room.
The STAR employee was the activity director who always had fun and interesting activities for the patients and truly cared for them. The bus to take the patients to activities or to the store, was most often not available, due to the home not paying the rental fee for the bus.
When I saw incidents involving other patients I would report to nurses. Patients were to scared to say anything. I contacted the state Ombudsman and reported issues but never saw a resolution to the problems.

The person I interacted with there is very nice, and the welcome was very pleasant. It was very good, but they’re not fast except for that one guy in the wing where she was. There were nights when she needed help in the bathroom that she had to do it on her own because nobody came to help her. The place is clean. I am looking for a hospital bed for my sister-in-law to donate to them because I think nobody needs to be on that bed since it belongs to the trash. They need better consideration of the elderly, but I think the pricing is good. She shares a room with somebody else, and there’s just a bed, nightstand, and closet.

My sister-in-law started out at Austin Wellness and Rehabilitation. It’s just depressing, and I really wanted to find some place for her that is cheerier and not so grim. It’s sad visiting her. It wasn’t secure enough for her. She kept leaving or trying to leave, that’s why she had to go to the other nursing facility. She moved in early March of last year, then they had a lockdown. I was able to visit her and had dinner with her each night for 2 or 3 days after she got there, then after that, not at all. The place was fine, but it felt like a hospital ward.
Her room was fine. It had two beds in it, but she was the only one in there originally, then she got a roommate later. I would like to find a place that meets her needs that feels homier. The staff seemed fine, but I didn’t see any activity. I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to visit. I was only there the first 2 or 3 evenings she was there. The nice thing was I was able to join her for dinner. I paid for dinner and ate with her, which I liked. The food was good. Then, the lockdown came, so I don’t know about any activity there and there were none that I observed. I didn’t see the dining room. I just ate with her in her room.

My sister-in-law is currently in Pflugerville Health Care Center. The staff is good. She has some dementia, and yet she’s only 66 years old. She’s in a secured wing of the facility, and she shares a room with someone and it just feels like a hospital, but a little sadder. There’s not a lot for her to do and she sees it as a temporary thing, but the fact of the matter is she’s always gonna need care, in her case, memory care. I haven’t really been in the dining area. I’ve only been able to visit her in her room as a designated caregiver. The meals, she says, are good. She’s happy with the food there.
Overall, it’s OK. I just wanted to find some place that’s a little nicer for her to live. I have not observed any sort of activity. When I go there, sometimes she’s in a common room and it has a TV, but they don’t appear to be doing anything, and it’s crowded. The room itself is not secure, but the entire wing is secure, so they can’t leave. However, she has complained that people go in and out of her room. It’s a secured unit and they call it memory care, but there don’t seem to be activities that stimulate them cognitively and I think she would really benefit from that because unlike most of the people in that wing, she’s 66 and not in her 80s, and she still got a lot of her wits about her.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Round Rock, Texas
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
