"I saw Maple Ridge in Cedar Park. We stayed in the independent living as guests. It was pretty new, I think it was maybe built 1 or 2 years ago. The place is very nicely built and very clean. I like it but not as much as I like the other place we visited. The guest room that we saw was too small, it's like a studio and it's very small and very uncomfortable for those 2 days we stayed there. The staff was very good, they're wonderful. I was not able to see any other apartments there but they have a very nice dining area, it's very sociable. It's built that you can socialize with people if you wanted to."

"The tour I had at Highland Estates was great. It's a beautiful place, the kind that I would love to put my mom in if it were income-based, or if the government had a program that could help. Just like where my mom is now, where they have a government program in place that offsets the cost of what room she's in. What I liked most was that it was a clean and beautiful facility, and the people were caring individuals. What I like least is the cost. The staff members I met were very friendly. They had transportation available and events scheduled for the residents. They also had physical therapy and exercise available. It's independent living, but there was no stove, and there's just a microwave, so I'm not sure how they're supposed to cook. They had food, but I can't remember exactly what the schedule was on that. They were in the middle of a remodel, but at the same time, it wasn't completely destroyed in the process of the remodel, and I can see where they were going with it."

"Belmont Village West Lake Hills was close to where I live. The staff was nice and informative. It looked good, big, and modern but seemed geared toward older people. "

"The thing I liked the most about Brookdale Westlake Hills was there were a lot of people on hand at the facility. There were people who care for the clients, and they were just floating around, which was really nice to see. It was very nice, very clean, and it did not smell. It's an older place, but it's not their fault because the building has been there for a long time. My grandmother-in-law was there when it was The Summit, and that's been a long time ago, but as long as it's clean, that's good. It was just a little dark to me, and my sister said mom's room is a little dark. The staff during the visit was really good, very detailed, and she answered all of our questions. She even gave us some more information that we didn't think about."

"My mom is at The Oaks Gracious Retirement Living. The main thing we liked was that they had meals for her because we didn't want her to cook. We wanted her to be independent but with meals. It was just centrally located for my siblings. There's always room for improvement, but they do a very nice job there. The staff members are very caring and sweet people. They're very good people. I haven't run into anything that displeases me. My mom's diabetic, and they don't have a diabetic menu. At every meal, there are three choices. They just put in new furniture and carpeting. They come in once a week and clean my mom's apartment. They change the sheets and make the bed. My mom is happy. They do arts and crafts, chair volleyball, yoga, and lots of different activities that my mom likes. They're very expensive."

"I moved to The Oscar at Georgetown. I've enjoyed it. It's a good move for me. I'm in the studio and I find it very satisfactory. The food is great, and the facility is well taken care of. There's a swimming pool and exercise facility. There are movies. The repair people are very attentive, and if there's something wrong with the facility, they may fix it in a hurry. There are two dining areas, one that's formal and one is less formal. The food is good and there's a great chef here."

"Verena at Leander was very professional. It was a very clean environment, very open, and airy. The staff was very attentive in showing us around. They spent two hours with us, helping us find the right location for Mom. The pool is amazing. The dining room seemed very comfortable and the rooms are very spacious and well decorated."

"We visited The Delaney at Georgetown Village. What stood out to me was their security system, meal times and camaraderie of all the residents. It's also located not very far from doctors. I like that it doesn't have a four-year waiting list. We have several different room choices, but they'll have to give us a smaller one before a bigger room opens; then they'll move us there. The dining room is very open and resident-friendly. Guests are always invited to sing. When you walk in and you're an unfamiliar face, they will engage you. They don't have a pool, but they have a workout room, game room, movie theater, events nights and cocktail hour. Every staff member I met was courteous, polite, and very helpful."

"My target area was Austin Texas so I visited a few community there. Out of the ones I have seen, my favorite is Brookdale Gaines Ranch in Austin. They cost a lot but if we're able to sell our home we could pay that price per month. If we don't, we're going to need something a little bit less expensive so we can afford to continue paying for our house here in California and rent that one in Austin. We're going to be paying for two places and it’s going to be a waste of money because we're going to be going back and forth California and Texas. We wanted to go to their independent living. I'm 100% disabled veteran. My kidneys both failed, it automatically gave in to the system which is dialysis but I stopped going to dialysis 5 days ago because my lab work is excellent and I believe I can be independent if I had to now. Brookdale in Gaines Ranch is an apartment complex put together to look like a hotel, it feels like a hotel inside. The food is absolutely excellent. Every single last piece of that meal we had was very delicious. My wife was very impressed. She didn't want to actually stay in senior living because she got used to a big home but I'm not going to staying in a senior living because I just like it. I'm going there because my God who is Jesus wants me to mingle with senior citizens and preach as much as I know about the Bible to the seniors because we're about to die quicker than the teenagers. It's predominantly Caucasians in there and they were extremely warm to my wife and me. They said we could get together and have a Bible class and that's exactly what my wife and I have been looking for. So I appreciate that. It was a very nice place. We looked at the 2-bedroom apartment and it was nicely built. I like that the bedrooms are on each side of the apartment and the living room was in between them. I really like that setup. They have a balcony so you get some fresh air when you need it. It feels like I can rest there and not have any problems and I can sleep properly."

"My husband's family chose The Continental Retirement for their parents. They liked the place and they decided that's the place to be for them. The staff seemed to be really nice, very helpful, and very competent with what they are doing. The place is beautiful. Staff would come in and clean their apartment at least once a week, if not more often, and I think that's awesome. My father is not very happy with the turnover of the cooks and some of the staff working in the cafeteria because some of the meals were not good and then some were excellent. They have different groups over there. They have groups for arts and crafts. They also have church services in there, but to my knowledge they have not gotten involved in any of the activities as of yet. "

"Village on the Park - Onion Creek is a nice facility. They had no pool. They had a very small athletic department, with maybe two or three machines. We looked at the apartments that they had in the main building, which we did not like. We looked at one of their villas, which was okay, but they had none available. The staff was excellent. She did a wonderful job of touring and selling the property."

"My parents are in the independent living at Heather Wilde. They're happy there. It's very close to my house. There are a lot of activities there. They have bingo, poker night, exercise like yoga night, painting class, and crafts lessons. I would surely recommend this place. They like the staff but they don't care for the manager. They can improve the management. "

"Cambidge Villas is very nice but parking for people with cars is a little difficult. It's pretty good for a place to stay. Our biggest concern is by the time we made friends with the neighbors they've gone to some other place or passed away. This is a place for seniors 55 and older but most people here are working and very few are retired. There are a few amenities here but there's a pool. "
