"It was a very warm and hospitable environment. I enjoyed lunch with my friend who I came to visit and got to take advantage of seeing happy hour events. Everyone was smiling and enjoying the music and food/drinks. It seemed like somewhere I could see myself living eventually."

"Amberlin Georgetown was friendly. It was clean and well-planned out. Everybody was nice. It was a staff member who gave us a tour and she went out of her way, practically, to make sure we saw what we wanted. They had a coffee bar and self-service stuff. It wasn't that expensive but we didn't have to pay extra for two people in the apartment, and I like that. We got to talk a lot more with residents when we went there. Everybody was so welcoming and that made you comfortable right away. It was a very nice place and we almost signed the contract."

"My daughter and I toured the Lakeline Oaks, an independent living community. The director was fantastic and took us around. I like the fact that there's a director and one of the managers who are on-site all the time because they live there. I also liked the fact that it was well kept up and had a great view. When you walk in, you will feel like it is a fun place. The people there were also very nice and very friendly. This place was eye-catching. They had done their rooms and modeled it to feel like you are going on a cruise ship. I believe that's what I had been told. The theater was eye-catching, too, like a regular theater would be. It had so many little quirks, so it's very interesting. They also had everything at the facility, so there wasn't even a reason to go out. Everything is also close. There were stores and restaurants around where it is located if you want to go out. I couldn't see any need to go out, though, because of the stuff offered at the facility."

"I moved into Maple Ridge Gracious Retirement Living. My apartment looks brand new, and I like my bathroom. It has a standard shower and grab bars by the commode. There's a mirror over the sink with plenty of drawers in front of the cabinet to keep things. It has two generous closets across from each other by the bathroom. This one has a patio outside, so I can look at the plants out there. It's on the fourth floor, so my view is out over Austin. They make up my bed and vacuum, and they bring me my meds. The staff here is friendly, and they come when I need them. Three meals a day are included and the food is delicious. They serve different courses, and all of it has been delicious. We have bingo. We're making Valentine's. We're playing cards. We have Bible study, and we also have bus trips. They have a courtyard and a beauty shop with 3 different beauticians."

"The tour I had at Highland Estates was great. It's a beautiful place, the kind that I would love to put my mom in if it were income-based, or if the government had a program that could help. Just like where my mom is now, where they have a government program in place that offsets the cost of what room she's in. What I liked most was that it was a clean and beautiful facility, and the people were caring individuals. What I like least is the cost. The staff members I met were very friendly. They had transportation available and events scheduled for the residents. They also had physical therapy and exercise available. It's independent living, but there was no stove, and there's just a microwave, so I'm not sure how they're supposed to cook. They had food, but I can't remember exactly what the schedule was on that. They were in the middle of a remodel, but at the same time, it wasn't completely destroyed in the process of the remodel, and I can see where they were going with it."

"Belmont Village West Lake Hills was a lovely location. I think it's really clean and the residents were well cared for. They had the available space that we were looking for and the facility was in great condition. I think they probably topped the list as far as amenities and activities and so forth. They had quite several activities for residents to participate in and were very interesting. It seemed like they worked with their residents to find things that they would be interested in."

"My parents were residents of Brookdale Westlake Hills. They both shared a room there and were well taken care of. It was a very nice and clean facility with excellent food, nursing, and support services. The staff was very professional and friendly. The room size was adequate. It was a two-room room, and each had a television and a separating curtain if they needed it. It was a good facility. My parents were comfortable there. My dad complained about his bed, so they switched the bed out. I saw people playing bingo, doing yoga, and stretching and exercises. You get what you pay for, and you have to pay a lot to get top quality. So, it's expensive."

"The Oaks Gracious Retirement Living is very nice and well-maintained. The rooms are rather spacious compared to what I was expecting. They are very nice, too. They have indoor hallways which are great, making it easy for my mom to get around and not have to go outside. The staff members are very friendly and are always assisting. They have card games, board games, and movie nights. They have a day full of activities. The dining area is very good. We had one meal there and it was good, well balanced, and tasty. My mom eats there three times a day, which is something we couldn't get her to do at home. So obviously the food is very good. She is eating more frequently now that she is there. They change the menu every day. The facility is well-maintained, beautiful, and very accommodating."

"I moved to The Oscar at Georgetown. My apartment is very nice and very comfortable. The food is good. They've got a variety of food to eat. The facility is very clean. The staff is friendly and nice."

"Verena at Leander is exquisite. It's an independent living community, and it was beautiful. It had transportation, food, and everything was included. I think they also have an exercise room and a library. The person who gave the tour was very friendly and very informative. The residents seemed very active, too. It would definitely be beyond my mother's means, and I think she is also no longer at that stage of independent living. I think she kind of needs a place that's between independent living and a nursing home."

"We loved The Delaney at Georgetown Village. It was beautiful. We were impressed with it, but it was a little bit pricier than the other ones. We liked the layout of the place. Most of the residents there were city people. They gave us some scones and it was really good. All the staff that we met were very friendly and we enjoyed the tour."

"My mother will be moving into Brookdale Gaines Ranch. I chose it because of the look and feel of the place. The residents looked happy and seemed to be enjoying the place and they were out and about and active. The staff was friendly and caring, and we had good communication, so far. It's a very nice facility with a lot of amenities. They have a gym, salon, indoor pool, courtyard outside, walking trail, pet park, poker room, and deli. They had more than anybody else."

"I think I would prefer to go to The Continental Retirement Community. I like the price and the physical look of the facility, and its location is convenient. It's very close to where I currently live, so I wouldn't have to adjust to a new neighborhood. The living spaces were not very large; they were medium-sized. I was looking at a one-bedroom-one-bath. They had a library, an activity room, and of course a dining facility. I had a meal there and it was acceptable. It was more casual dining like you would find at Applebee's or Denny's. The staff who assisted me with the tour was mostly knowledgeable. By her own admission, she had only been at that facility for about three months and was not familiar with the territory around it."

"I went to Solstice Senior Living at Austin. It's independent living. They don't have onsite assisted living, but they have agencies that come in. I was greeted by the residents and welcomed. The people were very friendly. I had a wonderful visit with the marketing director and I was very, very impressed. I felt very much at home there and very comfortable there. I don't know if I'm going to need any assisted living. I just want to make sure I've got something available if and when I do, so that was a little bit iffy, but it sounds like they have it covered. They don't have it on-site per se. That's my only drawback. Other than that, the rest of the places are going to have to work hard to compete because I like this place. I like the atmosphere. I like that there's a green space around it and a lot of places where you can go outside and see the animals. They had a library. They had a lot of activities. They had chair yoga, which I very much like, a lot of games, and so forth, and they had little outings."
