"We saw Clairmont. I didn't like the area that much because there was a lot of commercial businesses around it. The apartments were too small for my mom, but they were nice and had different floor plans. They had a hair salon, a bus to go to Walmart or doctors' appointments, bingo, and music. The ladies said the activities director is great. The lunch was great and formal. They take your order and deliver the food to you."

"The only problem I had with the Conservatory at North Austin was that they seemed a little bit far from me personally. They're a nice community, and we were invited to a house-warming party over there; we got to see the apartments. I remember seeing a pool. It seems to me that you have to walk a while to get to the dining room. They're connected buildings, but they're not all in one building. The rooms were very nice. Someone we knew had a one-bedroom and this other couple we knew had a two-bedroom. They had a snack bar with a lunch set up for one couple; I guess they do private parties when you're a member there. It was pretty good food. The staff that I met seemed very nice."

"Lakeline Oaks is very nice, clean and tidy. All the people seemed very friendly and very happy. The staff were very accommodating and very nice to talk to. They wanted to know what they can do for us but unfortunately we've decided to live in a smaller house at this time. "

" The Best Place for the Golden Years. I visited and stayed at Maple Ridge when I visited my sister, who is a resident there. The facility is bright, clean and well organized with plenty to do. The management and staff are first class with a caring and cheerful approach to resident services. Maple Ridge is by far, the best place for quality of life, security and peace of mind and value. I am so glad my older sister chose Maple Ridge."

"I visited Village on the Park Onion Creek. They have individual cottages, and my mother-in-law has a dog. They're much more accommodating rather than having to go up and down the elevator five times a day to take the dog outside. The grounds were pretty. The particular cottage we saw was very nice, spacious, and had granite counter tops and a cute little patio. It's just like having a little house rather than living in an apartment. We thought the price was too expensive for what we're looking for. The services were the same as other places, like the transportation and activities are similar, but get more space and a patio. It's a beautiful community."

"The apartments at Provident Crossing were bigger than any of the other five places that I went to within Austin and it has full amenities. It doesn't have a pool, but they have three meals a day included in the price. They also have a chef's pantry which is open round the clock for snacks and sandwiches or anything that they want in the middle of the night. It is a newer building -- only three years old -- and the prices were very reasonable. They do offer outings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; so that is three times a week. They also have a lady that the residents can contract either for the day or for the hour, or for a day trip if they would like at very, very reasonable prices. They were charging like $2.50 to help them get down to dinner or lunch. They all have life alert available to them and it is either on the neck or on the wrist, so that way if they fall in the bathroom they don't have to reach for the phone because they can use the life alert to call them. It seemed like a really nice place so far. My parents haven't moved in yet, but they offered them a three day and two night stay, which they did and they loved it. The food was good and they thoroughly enjoyed it. "

"I moved in and it is wonderful. It's so balanced out. They offer three cooked meals a day and they have little snacks if you want them. All of the people are so nice and they have activities like no other place I've been to. The rooms are a fair size and I really like my 1-bedroom. The food is excellent and cooked by a chef who does a good job. They take the trash out for us, vacuum our room once a week, mop our bathroom floor, and dust our furniture. If I get too sick, they will bring my meal upstairs. They have tai chi, which I love, chair volleyball, bingo, all sorts of card games, and an exercise class. There's just so many ways they keep us active. The staff is very nice and efficient. It's just a wonderful atmosphere. They also have a bus that'll take you to the doctor. They keep everything so clean. This place really impressed me and my son."

"The tour I had at Highland Estates was great. It's a beautiful place, the kind that I would love to put my mom in if it were income-based, or if the government had a program that could help. Just like where my mom is now, where they have a government program in place that offsets the cost of what room she's in. What I liked most was that it was a clean and beautiful facility, and the people were caring individuals. What I like least is the cost. The staff members I met were very friendly. They had transportation available and events scheduled for the residents. They also had physical therapy and exercise available. It's independent living, but there was no stove, and there's just a microwave, so I'm not sure how they're supposed to cook. They had food, but I can't remember exactly what the schedule was on that. They were in the middle of a remodel, but at the same time, it wasn't completely destroyed in the process of the remodel, and I can see where they were going with it."

"Verena at Leander was very professional. It was a very clean environment, very open, and airy. The staff was very attentive in showing us around. They spent two hours with us, helping us find the right location for Mom. The pool is amazing. The dining room seemed very comfortable and the rooms are very spacious and well decorated."

"We toured The Oaks Gracious Retirement Living in Georgetown, and during the tour we were able to see the apartments that were available. The Oaks is a place that is a small community, but it's not a major, huge corporate community. We looked at smaller family home places, but they were awful, so we decided that we need to go with a corporate community that at least would listen to concerns. It's not a huge community, but it has everything that we needed, and my sister's going to be happy there. It has a beautiful back patio and a beautifully landscaped garden. Inside, it has arts and crafts activities, and an activities director. It has a kitchen where people can cook if they want family members over. It has fun games to help enhance brain activities. There is a theatre where they show two movies a day. It has beautiful and clean common areas. It has beautifully landscaped and very clean apartments. It is independent living, so my sister has to do her laundry herself, which she was very happy about. You don't have to pay for laundry. The apartment gets scrubbed down once a week; vacuumed, dusted, and washed. They put in new, fresh towels every week, they change the bed, and they provide the linens. The staff was so nice, and they were just so caring. We got this referral from an attorney that we spoke with. She was so happy with it because she has a relative that stays there. The staff was so wonderful. They are all willing to help make this a positive experience."

"I moved to The Oscar at Georgetown. I've enjoyed it. It's a good move for me. I'm in the studio and I find it very satisfactory. The food is great, and the facility is well taken care of. There's a swimming pool and exercise facility. There are movies. The repair people are very attentive, and if there's something wrong with the facility, they may fix it in a hurry. There are two dining areas, one that's formal and one is less formal. The food is good and there's a great chef here."

"I toured The Village at The Triangle. I liked the food. It was made-to-order food, and it was nice. They were saying that for dinner, they are more crowded, but the day I went, even for lunch, it was a little crowded. I believe that's very unusual, but it was good. The service was excellent. The apartment was very nice, and that's exactly what I want. It's very clean. The person who gave the tour was good."

"I went to Primrose of Shadow Creek; it's very welcoming. I haven't had any problems or complaints, but I like having my own space. It's a very nice place, the rooms are very clean, and well-maintained. The staff is very kind, very helpful, very nice, and I have only nice things to say about them. The have schedules for different things going on."
