The Waterford focused only on independent living with no options to move past that if that was needed. It was a nice place. "

"I went to The Inn at Los Patios. Good people, older community. The people were friendly. It's a secluded place. We had a positive experience. They have a yard. And then they had patios. So you had a patio with your balcony with your place. The staff was excellent and professional."

"We decided to visit Franklin Park Sonterra Senior Living San Antonio assisted living facility as we really liked the area and it is convenient for my brother's friend's family. From the time we got there, we could see that this is a very high end living environment. The building appeared very well maintained. The outer grounds featured a lovely courtyard with nice seating areas to enjoy. The dining rooms were beautiful and elegant. The many activity rooms and lounges were all nicely decorated. The accommodations resembled what could be found in a high-end motel.The activities ranged from board games, to discussions, private reading, watching film and TV and many hosted events. The staff is well-versed at taking care of a variety of types of people, from those who are not ambulatory - to people who have memory issues. The outside activities they plan regularly include a comprehensive and wide array of everything from visiting local restaurant favorites, and the public library to day trips to nearby regions. The living spaces were well-designed and spacious. All of the areas were pleasant to be in and we could see that the residents thought so, too. The furnishings and decor was quite luxurious. They have planned exercise classes - but also offer residents to work out any time they wish. We liked that they encourage exercise and make staff available for assistance. There was plenty of professional, yet friendly staff to take care of basic needs. Anyone who lived in this environment is sure to be quite content with the many amenities and activities here, while ensuring that all of their specific needs are met. "

"I was very impressed with The Waterford at Thousand Oaks. It was very clean. It was very uplifting. Everybody seemed to be happy and in a good mood. It was a very good experience there. The rooms were very nice, very kept up, and very clean. I’m sure my mom would thoroughly enjoy it there if we pursue that. With my limited exposure to them, they get a 5, I was very impressed with it. They had lots of activities. They were going on with bingo, and they showed us several rooms where they have a pet rally for the Spurs, arts and crafts, a library, and things like that. I was very impressed with everything. "

"My mother-in-law will be moving into The Inn at Westover Hill. It is located in a very nice area. They designed it very well to the point that they have all the needs of a senior living from security, activities, all of it. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The rooms were clean, spacious, and accessible. They don't provide food. Everybody cooks their own food. The amenities are excellent and they have a lot of activities. They have a garden, a pool, a library, an arts and crafts room with supplies available for them to use, a quiet reading area, and a community room where they play bingo and other activities. They have community parties, and they said the food bank goes once a month to provide food for the residents. They have elevators, which is very important."

"I went to Independence Hill Retirement Community. The man said they would be serving lunch, but they didn't. They serve two meals a day, which is morning and night. They had everything there that's necessary. The apartments were nice and clean. The staff was very nice. They had a nice handout. I saw some people doing their exercises. She showed me the library, the books, and the bridge place. They also go on trips. I'm not sure it's for me, but I think it's a very nice place."

"Discovery Village Stone Oak has been bought out and they've improved a lot. They've redecorated everything, so the place looks beautiful. It's a good place. I would recommend it. It's got about four floors and it's not an overwhelming amount of residents, just about the right amount to where they can give attention. They've got workers on each floor that come in. They can assist with whatever needs according to what different people need. They're friendly and attentive. They're not perfect, of course, they make mistakes sometimes, but they quickly try to rectify. The place is kept clean. The food is good and nutritious. They give them medication. They also provide activities. I would like it if the activities were a bit more than what they are, but they try. They had watermelon outside. For fiesta, they brought in some dancers, and that was really good. Everybody seemed to really enjoy that. I would like it if they would play some oldies but goodies music and engage them in conversation. They set up the table real nice and put orange juice and everything, but all the ladies are just sitting there looking at each other until they're served. Other than that, it's good. I've been overcharged a couple of times and still trying to rectify that. I would like some consistency on the billing. I would recommend them. They've been loyal, they're attentive to my mom, and I'm not disappointed that I'm there or anything. I'm happy we're there. The staff is really good. I would like it if they would have different food options. They keep spinning the same food over and over again. I've gotten bored with it, but it's delicious. My digestive system actually works better when I've eaten with Mom there a few times, so I know it's good for her, and I'm happy. There's a lot of people that have memory loss and they will put up signs in the elevator and everywhere and even bring it to the room telling them there's an activity. It was posted and everything, but unless they're reminded at the time, like knock on their door and say, "Hey, we got this going on. Would you like to join us?" They won't remember. They're creative, but they're not engaging them in enough conversation with each other. I think it's high priced, just like everything else is. I would still recommend them, and they're a good place to be in."

"Solea Alamo Ranch was very nice. They had a lot of activities. They didn't provide food for their residents there. The staff who assisted us with the tour was very nice and very sweet. The common spaces were very beautiful, and the room was beautiful."

"I had an in-person tour of Landon Ridge Alamo Ranch. Everything was good. The food was excellent. They provide two meals a day, but they're very substantial. They have everything. They have maid service. You can have a washer and dryer in your apartment. They have a theater, a pool, and four or five libraries. The facility was very clean, and it felt very secure. They do everything that all the other ones do. They do doctor runs and grocery shopping. They provide transportation within a ten-mile radius. The facility was very well laid out. I liked the bathrooms that had a lot of handrails. They had a lot of resting places, like benches along the hallways. The people there seemed to be more mobile."

"Emerald Oaks is off the charts. It is set up like a cruise ship. They have live entertainment. Their dining facility is already set up like a banquet room, but then they leave a space on the floor for people to dance. They also have the chef in the kitchen, so anything you did not want to eat from the regular schedule, you could order it. With them, if you did not feel like coming downstairs from your room, you could call your order in and they would deliver it to your room. They have an exercise room, a whirlpool tub, and a fitness room. If people want to get into the whirlpool after they finish their exercising, they could. "

"We toured Ensemble Senior Living. It seemed comfortable, affordable, and people seemed to be enjoying their time there. It ensembles like an apartment tower. It's very nice to see. We took the elevator. They have pool tables and a bar. The staff was excellent."

"I like Morningside at The Meadows. They remodeled all the apartments except for the lobby and stuff like that, but it is still a real nice building, and the apartment that they showed me was brand new with all the amenities and stuff. They have two meals a day, which are breakfast and lunch or dinner. They come and clean your apartment and wash your clothes once a week. They have HBO, telephone, and computer services. Then they'll take you to doctors' offices or to any appointments you have. They have various hobby-type deals. They have painting classes, pool tables, and a lot of other things that you can do. They furnish your apartment with an electric stove and microwave oven. There is central air and heat. If you want minor appliances like toasters and coffee pots, you have to furnish those yourself, but they have all those downstairs in the dining area. If you're a coffee drinker, they have all kinds of coffee downstairs. They offered a lot, and the people were nice. My wife likes to go to church. They have a chapel there, and it's non-denomination. They have a pastor and preachers that come. My wife has gone to several of the things there because she wants to try a lot of stuff out before we make the move, and she's really satisfied. Even though we're not there yet, they don't object to her going to church there. They have a real nice balcony where my wife can put all her plants and stuff. They've tried to address a lot of the issues that elderly people have. They don't have a pool, though (and I'm a swimmer). However, they'll take you to the YMCA, and they have exercise events there, too. My car has always been in the garage, and they don't have a garage. They have very limited covered parking, and it's on a first-come, first-served basis. They don't assign them. That was another thing that I wish they had. The lady there was very helpful. She answered all our questions truthfully. She even offered to assist us in the transformation (even though we're not there yet) to where if we make the move, they can lead us to movers, people that will help us connect our appliances, like our TVs, and this and that. So, she offered for us to call her anytime if we have any questions. She was very honest, and she went through the building completely. Some of the apartments had wooden floors. Some had carpeting, and she said that they would comply with whatever your wishes were. If you want a wood floor and that apartment has carpet, they'll pick up the carpet and put wood in it. They try to satisfy your likes as far as the apartment goes. That was a nice feature and a good selling point for me. The buildings are in good condition. They have exercise rooms. They have washing machines that you can use."
