We're right now in assisted living at Discovery Village Stone Oak. They've grown a lot since we joined them eight months ago. They have a lot more people to take care of, and they don't have enough staff to cover it all. It's very nice and very clean looking. The staff is great, and we have a really good rapport with everybody. The patients are very appreciative of the care that they're receiving. They take in people quite often. Every day, someone new joins the clan. They have a problem with the ratio of the staff and the inability to take care of people in the right amount of time. They haven't done anything to improve on that. Our apartment is very nice. It's a one-bedroom, one-bath. It's not quite as fancy as the other place. It didn't have enough space for me to have my own time. When my husband is having therapy, it's often done in the room we're in, and they're busy with him, and then I have no place I can go. They have classes about three times a week in the wellness center, and they have recorded things on the wall, and you can copy what they're doing. They have a game played on the TV as well, and they play active things, like throwing a balloon and tossing it across the room, things like that. They have Bunco, bingo, and dominoes. They usually have some sort of an event once a month for all the birthday people in that month. Now it's getting close to Christmas, and we've had two choirs come and visit us and sing. They make sure that you get plenty of entertainment and things to do. They don't have very good meals, but we learned a lot, made a lot of friends, and met new people. They're going to have to expand because we've grown so much. It's very expensive.

My dad moved into Discovery Village Stone Oak. This community had a room that met his size requirements and had the space for him. He enjoyed the people he met and the staff who helped him with the transition. They recommended a very good mover to him who moved his belongings from his home to his new apartment. And he enjoys the community he lives in. He made friends. He likes talking to the people there, having meals with them, and doing other things. They have three meals a day. Not only is there a fully posted activities calendar with reminders and things going on all the time, but what really impressed me about this facility, I'm sure it can't be that way, but they've changed the decorations every time we walk in there - seasonal decorations, sporting decorations, not just in one or two places. I mean, wall panels, photographs, football season, Halloween - they do a very good job of keeping people aware of what is going on. I think the decorations help keep people aware that there's a lot still going on out there. However, the move-in process was a little chaotic because at the last minute, I kept finding out things that I suddenly had to produce in terms of documentation, doctor's notes, or things like that. That really caught me off guard for the 24 to 36 hours before he moved in. That was extremely hectic and very bothersome. Other than that, my dad enjoys the meals. He enjoys his living. The access is easy. The staff are friendly and outgoing, and they make every effort to help him and me. It's been an extremely good fit.

Discovery Village Stone Oak has been bought out and they've improved a lot. They've redecorated everything, so the place looks beautiful. It's a good place. I would recommend it. It's got about four floors and it's not an overwhelming amount of residents, just about the right amount to where they can give attention. They've got workers on each floor that come in. They can assist with whatever needs according to what different people need. They're friendly and attentive. They're not perfect, of course, they make mistakes sometimes, but they quickly try to rectify. The place is kept clean. The food is good and nutritious. They give them medication. They also provide activities. I would like it if the activities were a bit more than what they are, but they try. They had watermelon outside. For fiesta, they brought in some dancers, and that was really good. Everybody seemed to really enjoy that. I would like it if they would play some oldies but goodies music and engage them in conversation. They set up the table real nice and put orange juice and everything, but all the ladies are just sitting there looking at each other until they're served. Other than that, it's good. I've been overcharged a couple of times and still trying to rectify that. I would like some consistency on the billing. I would recommend them. They've been loyal, they're attentive to my mom, and I'm not disappointed that I'm there or anything. I'm happy we're there. The staff is really good. I would like it if they would have different food options. They keep spinning the same food over and over again. I've gotten bored with it, but it's delicious. My digestive system actually works better when I've eaten with Mom there a few times, so I know it's good for her, and I'm happy. There's a lot of people that have memory loss and they will put up signs in the elevator and everywhere and even bring it to the room telling them there's an activity. It was posted and everything, but unless they're reminded at the time, like knock on their door and say, "Hey, we got this going on. Would you like to join us?" They won't remember. They're creative, but they're not engaging them in enough conversation with each other. I think it's high priced, just like everything else is. I would still recommend them, and they're a good place to be in.

It was a lovely facility. It is nice, wide, open, and bright, and the most modern of all the facilities that we toured. It was nice and lovely, but it just was not warm and friendly.

I saw their assisted living. It's very, very pretty. I had never seen a place like that. It was just so nice, so clean, and didn't smell. The other places I had toured were on the south side, and they were horrible and smelled just ridiculous. The staff we interacted with was very knowledgeable, very courteous, and just a very nice person. We saw each of the sections. She named them because they have certain names, and we saw each wing. I just don't remember the names. The outdoor spaces were very nice and clean.
