"I picked The Legacy at Forrest Ridge for my mom because they had more actual apartments. Like the one that we are getting actually has three rooms because it has a little kitchen area where it has just the refrigerator and counters and counter doors, it has a room that you can make into a bedroom, and then it has a separate room for a living room area. So I wanted her to have more like an apartment and not necessarily an assisted living place. "

"I toured Brookdale San Marcos South. They offered anything I needed. The woman I met was very helpful. I was able to taste the food. I was able to visit the rooms, and it was nice and pretty well."

"We were not very impressed with Victory Home. They didn't seem very organized nor had a good meal plan. They just loaded everyone up to go to adult day care. The house was not as kept up as we would've liked. They had a living room, but that was it. The staff seemed OK. They didn't have a menu for a week, so we didn't know what kind of food to expect. The facility seemed a bit rundown, and the flooring was all torn up. It didn't look like they were in the middle of replacing it. It looked like they just tore up the carpet and the tile."

"From the time I walked in, I felt welcomed at Brookdale San Marcos North. I toured for my dad and everyone from the people who work there to the residents stopped us on our visit and told me I should move my dad in. I saw a group playing dominoes, a staff playing pool with a resident, people doing puzzles, and several others visiting in the lobby and little living rooms they have all throughout the facility. Some of the other residents were out on a bus trip to HEB, where they take the residents every week. The building is older but clean and well maintained and they said they are getting a renovation this year. I ended up staying for lunch and the food was delicious."

"I toured Sodalis at Stone Oak. They showed me the memory care. The apartments were small. The tour was good. The staff was very caring. Everybody knew everyone's name and greeted everyone kindly. It was very clean. We did go outside. It was nice out there and they had tables and chairs."

"I moved into Sodalis Windcrest at San Antonio. It's close to my daughter's house, so that makes it convenient. I had seen this facility, and I liked it. I like the people here and the way they treat you. There's a lot of privacy if you want, but if you don't, you can go into the activity room or to the cafeteria. They're the same thing; that's where you go to eat if you don't want to eat in your room. I always go to the activity room and eat with somebody else. The staff is always there. It doesn't take long to get them if you need them. They don't bother you if you don't want to be bothered, but they're there. You can call them anytime. They're also close to the way it's arranged. My room is close to the main office, which is convenient. I enjoyed their food. It's well-balanced. It's not too much, and if you want more, you can have it, but they are always quite a bit on the plate. Everything's good here. When you don't feel good, they bring it to your room. It's very clean. They keep the room very nice. There is no dust anywhere. I can tell when they've been in the bathroom. You can smell the freshness in there. It has a walk-in shower, a lavatory, and a toilet. It's a small bedroom with a sink, and the kitchen has a little refrigerator. There's not too much storage space, but I don't need it since my meals are all here, and I have chest drawers. They always have something if you want to. You don't have to attend, but there's always something going on, like games and exercise. They have trips two times a week. They have trips to take you to the Dollar store, and there's a Walmart close by. Another reason why I chose it is because it is a good price and since they do everything for you, including the laundry, you don't have to do that, which makes it nice. They're very well equipped here."

"Discovery Village Stone Oak has been bought out and they've improved a lot. They've redecorated everything, so the place looks beautiful. It's a good place. I would recommend it. It's got about four floors and it's not an overwhelming amount of residents, just about the right amount to where they can give attention. They've got workers on each floor that come in. They can assist with whatever needs according to what different people need. They're friendly and attentive. They're not perfect, of course, they make mistakes sometimes, but they quickly try to rectify. The place is kept clean. The food is good and nutritious. They give them medication. They also provide activities. I would like it if the activities were a bit more than what they are, but they try. They had watermelon outside. For fiesta, they brought in some dancers, and that was really good. Everybody seemed to really enjoy that. I would like it if they would play some oldies but goodies music and engage them in conversation. They set up the table real nice and put orange juice and everything, but all the ladies are just sitting there looking at each other until they're served. Other than that, it's good. I've been overcharged a couple of times and still trying to rectify that. I would like some consistency on the billing. I would recommend them. They've been loyal, they're attentive to my mom, and I'm not disappointed that I'm there or anything. I'm happy we're there. The staff is really good. I would like it if they would have different food options. They keep spinning the same food over and over again. I've gotten bored with it, but it's delicious. My digestive system actually works better when I've eaten with Mom there a few times, so I know it's good for her, and I'm happy. There's a lot of people that have memory loss and they will put up signs in the elevator and everywhere and even bring it to the room telling them there's an activity. It was posted and everything, but unless they're reminded at the time, like knock on their door and say, "Hey, we got this going on. Would you like to join us?" They won't remember. They're creative, but they're not engaging them in enough conversation with each other. I think it's high priced, just like everything else is. I would still recommend them, and they're a good place to be in."

"The staff at Camino Real is very friendly. The atmosphere is very homey and very comforting. The rooms are large. There's plenty of outdoor and indoor space. I liked the way the dining room is set up for the meals and the things that the residents have like mini-fridges in their room for their own personal use (if they want snacks or sodas or whatever, they can keep some in their room). They also have their own microwaves in their room. It's not a full kitchen, but that makes it very people-friendly, even for somebody who needs assisted living, and I think my friend would be very comfortable and very happy once she's there. Because I visited on a weekend, there's not as much of a staff, but the people that were there were very helpful when they explained about their routines and their activities and all the things that are available as they took me around. You can work in their garden if you want to or do art if you want to. There's so much for them to do. They are not just sitting around with nothing to do and nothing to think about. From looking at their menu and just smelling the food, I think the food is great. I am very, very pleased and very, very impressed with the entire facility and the staff."

"I toured Alexis Pointe of Wimberley Senior Living. I liked that it's in a small town, and it felt very warm. The staff seemed to know all of the folks. They were very open talking to me, and I like the three levels of care in one facility. I only saw one room. They were fairly full. They had one that had just come available, but it had not been cleaned out yet so, I didn't get a real sense of it. It was adequate. Knowledgeable and kind staff. I talked to the intake person. And then I talked to the person that had responsibility for memory care. And they were all very professional. I saw some activities in the memory care wing, and they had an activity director talking to a couple of women."

"I am very pleased with the care and respect my mother received at the facility. The staff call me to keep me informed of changes. My mother loves the Lord and staff will have Bible study daily with her to keep her spirits lifted. Staff are always smiling and loving. I really trust my mom is in the best place. When she moved in they assessed per prescriptions and found many of these could be eliminated. Previous facility over medicated. They pay attention if she does not want to eat to offer a substitute or assess if she feels ill. I am so pleased. My brother and I joined mom for lunch one Saturday to celebrate her birthday and the food was great. The food was served on china. I have observed this as well on days I visit and walk with her to the dining area, s as Jesus good food in nice table setting. This makes for a happy place to eat. "

"My husband is in Sodalis at San Marcos and it is a very nice, clean place. The staff is very good and they have different activities every day like exercise, playing cards, dominoes, and prayer meetings. The dining area is very clean and good."

"My wife moved into Brookdale Hollywood Park. It's a very nice establishment. It's home-like. It's like private apartments. We're pleased with that. She has a private space, and she has three meals there, and other opportunities. She's very inactive physically and spends most of the time in the room, and we are pleased with the way the staff takes care of her. They offer art classes and film and television viewing. The staff is supportive, competent, and present when needed. The facility is clean and well-maintained and seems fresh. I'm pleased with her being in that environment."

"My mother moved into Carol Ann's Home in December. It's a very clean place. It looks relatively new, so it's very well kept up. They do an excellent job there. They don't have a lot of residents, so attention is given to everybody. Her room is fine for what she needs. It's a little room with a hospital bed that they provide. It has a little bit of a wardrobe for her clothes and personal stuff, a TV, and chairs. I've also brought a few little things from home. For her right now, their memory care program is fine. The residents get together in the main lobby room, and they have little arts and crafts. They want my mom to socialize with the other people there. They kind of make them try to attend all the breakfast, lunch and dinner, which I think is very good. The staff has been great. They have a lot because it's a 24-hour shift. I think I've met everybody and I love them. The food seems good. They've got an in-house chef. "
