"My dad moved into Discovery Village Stone Oak. This community had a room that met his size requirements and had the space for him. He enjoyed the people he met and the staff who helped him with the transition. They recommended a very good mover to him who moved his belongings from his home to his new apartment. And he enjoys the community he lives in. He made friends. He likes talking to the people there, having meals with them, and doing other things. They have three meals a day. Not only is there a fully posted activities calendar with reminders and things going on all the time, but what really impressed me about this facility, I'm sure it can't be that way, but they've changed the decorations every time we walk in there - seasonal decorations, sporting decorations, not just in one or two places. I mean, wall panels, photographs, football season, Halloween - they do a very good job of keeping people aware of what is going on. I think the decorations help keep people aware that there's a lot still going on out there. However, the move-in process was a little chaotic because at the last minute, I kept finding out things that I suddenly had to produce in terms of documentation, doctor's notes, or things like that. That really caught me off guard for the 24 to 36 hours before he moved in. That was extremely hectic and very bothersome. Other than that, my dad enjoys the meals. He enjoys his living. The access is easy. The staff are friendly and outgoing, and they make every effort to help him and me. It's been an extremely good fit."

"My wife moved into Brookdale Hollywood Park. It's a very nice establishment. It's home-like. It's like private apartments. We're pleased with that. She has a private space, and she has three meals there, and other opportunities. She's very inactive physically and spends most of the time in the room, and we are pleased with the way the staff takes care of her. They offer art classes and film and television viewing. The staff is supportive, competent, and present when needed. The facility is clean and well-maintained and seems fresh. I'm pleased with her being in that environment."

"I went to The Forum at Lincoln Heights. What I like most about The Forum are the amenities that it provides. It was clean and the location is close to shopping and churches. There's a covered heated pool where they do exercise. The staff is very knowledgeable and concerned about things that my mother likes."

"Mercy House New Braunfels is a very homey setting, not a big hospital feel. It is kind of out in the country a little bit, and the whole setting is nice. The place smelled good, the people were very nice, and it was the kind of place that I probably would like if it came to that. It's a full-service place. It's mainly a memory care place. The unit is just a room. You've got to furnish your own bed. They had quite a few people there, but they had either a private or semi-private room, and it depends on what's available at the time. They stay pretty full. They had a lot of couches and a lot of people around. They get everybody out of their rooms. They don't let them stay in their rooms; they get them all out into common areas and do activities with them and everything. They even had a 102-year-old lady there. They go out on the porch in a rocking chair and watch the birds. It's that kind of setting, that's why I like it. They're very good. The place was very clean."

"My friend was at Arden Courts of San Antonio for fourteen months. Her experience was very good primarily because of the staff, their caring attitude, and their overall treatment of the residents and people, like me, as family. It was a pleasure to have her there. The interior is well wallpapered, because they have different little areas where you can sit with the resident and visit outside of their rooms. Our favorite one was what they called the "City Park", which had a couple of walls of beautiful flowers and a garden. It was very nice. There were also many doors where you could go out into a large back courtyard that was sealed off. The residents could go out there on their own. Whenever the weather permitted, we would go outside because we both liked the outdoors. Once you're inside, there are four separate sections, or what they call houses, where you can walk around the inside of all of them. In other words, there's a four-way hallway and you can keep walking around in a square, each one leading to one of the four houses. Each of the houses had its name. So, it was set up to be cheerful and helpful to the residents, as well as visitors. I was just a little disappointed that the outside didn't have more flowers, but it was still attractive and comfortable. She was in a one-bedroom with one bathroom, sink, and no shower. There's nothing remarkable about it. It's a very small space, which I don't think is bad. For those residents who can get out, they encourage them to participate in the activities. They come and knock on your door and ask you, "Would you like to go to this activity in a few minutes? Would you like to do that?" They don't just post the activities and let it happen, especially once they get to know the residents and people like me and her daughter, and we could tell them what kinds of things she likes. The food is good. They also have a good staff, a good program, and a good physical setup. I'm happy with how she was cared for there."

"I moved my Mother to Carol Ann's Home 8 months ago. My Mom was in a corporate facility that neglected her healthcare. I was very fortunate to have Carol Ann's Home reccomended to me. The Memory Care location has 18 beds. The place is painted so the walls and ceiling are painted to look like an outside scene. Each resident has a private room which includes a tv with cable. The staff is amazing! My Mom is finally getting the care she needs and deserves. The price is very reasonable and everything is included. They post pictures everyday so even though I live 2000 miles away in another country I finally feel like she is home. I cannot reccomend the place highly enough. If you are looking for a place that's family run and not a corperate place when the almighty dollar is the main concern this is the place for your loved one. The activities are amazing. This week there was a party for Halloween. Family is always encouraged to come and unlike the corporate places I had my parents at they do not charge you to attend. They say 3 is charm and after 2 corporate run facilities I feel like I have finally found a place that doesn't treat my Mom like a dollar sign, but a realy person who has value. When I moved my Mom here she got the last spot so you many have to be on a waiting list, but it's so worth it! "

"My brother-in-law has moved into Poet's Walk Memory Care San Antonio. He has advanced Parkinson's and dementia, and that's why we went there, because it is a memory care facility. As a memory care facility, they have several resources to manage their daily activities, and so far, it has worked out well. Our interaction with the staff is very good across the board. In fact, we selected that place for two primary reasons. We felt the staff members were good, and for us, the location was very important so that his wife could visit him more easily than she might have at other locations. One of the things we like is that his room is a fairly large room. They have big double windows in all of their rooms that we saw, and that was a big consideration. Even though the shades are mostly gone most of the time, he gets more outside light there than he does in other places. They have quite a few organized activities for the folks throughout the day, too. Of course, he spends most of his time in his room because of his Parkinson's."

"I toured Brookdale Medical Center Kingsley. All of the ones that I went to see are kind of equivalent to each other, but the staff was friendly at this one. They gave me some more resources for financial help. So, that was nice. They were having a meeting. I got to meet the whole staff and the director. It was good to be able to talk with everyone. It is an older building, but it was clean inside. They had a nice courtyard in the middle and some porches on the bottom floors, which I liked. It's a back porch."
