My father is currently in Pflugerville Care Center. My mother just got out of there. They are very caring, lovely people. They are short staffed, but I really have nothing negative to say about the staff because it takes special people to do that. The rooms are OK. They have two people in one room, but the TV is only in front of one bed. Luckily, my parents were in the same room together, but at first my father had a roommate and the TV was in front of his roommate, so he didn't get to really participate in much TV watching, which was depressing for him, of course. It's one of the better nursing homes that I have been in because this is not the first rehab my father's been in. Neither one of my parents got sick and they've been vaccinated. They've got excellent food, and my parents said it's so good. That's a definite plus. My dad's social worker says a lot of the staff has been out there for lots of years and they're passionate about what they do. It takes special people again to do that job and do it with a smile, and I saw it many times. Somebody ran into the main entrance, so no one is allowed to go into the main door. You have to go around to the back of it right now. It's a bit inconvenient because my mother has a broken back and she's on a walker and a back brace. I drive around back and they allow me to drop her off.

While there are concerned nurses and aides, most acted like my sister was an unwanted guest. They were very slow in answering room calls, and when they did answer, they said would take care of "it" and leave the room to never be seen that day. My sister hated the food and ate snacks that we brought in. The staff did not see that residents had ice and water, rarely bringing it in even when asked. Real coffee was not an option, which is rather cruel when people had been drinking it their whole lives. I went in once in the year she was there to find her sitting in her own urine. She had asked them to clean her up but they only placed something under her. Her clothes were soaked. The bathroom floor and commode had fesces on it. This was not the only time. They also have problems with insects and rodents. When she left the facility on October 24, 2022--after we had paid for the whole month, we asked for a refund for the days she did not lived there. They still had not paid as of January 13th, 2023.

My sister-in-law is currently in Pflugerville Health Care Center. The staff is good. She has some dementia, and yet she's only 66 years old. She's in a secured wing of the facility, and she shares a room with someone and it just feels like a hospital, but a little sadder. There's not a lot for her to do and she sees it as a temporary thing, but the fact of the matter is she's always gonna need care, in her case, memory care. I haven't really been in the dining area. I've only been able to visit her in her room as a designated caregiver. The meals, she says, are good. She's happy with the food there. Overall, it's OK. I just wanted to find some place that's a little nicer for her to live. I have not observed any sort of activity. When I go there, sometimes she's in a common room and it has a TV, but they don't appear to be doing anything, and it's crowded. The room itself is not secure, but the entire wing is secure, so they can't leave. However, she has complained that people go in and out of her room. It's a secured unit and they call it memory care, but there don't seem to be activities that stimulate them cognitively and I think she would really benefit from that because unlike most of the people in that wing, she's 66 and not in her 80s, and she still got a lot of her wits about her.

Do not leave your loved ones there if they cannot take care of themselves. My mother was a resident and completely dependent on her caregivers. I moved her to a different facility due to an accident she was involved in. She fell while being transported from her wheelchair to her bed. The staff was using a Hoyer lift. The staff is over worked and in some cases under trained. Several were working double shifts and there were high turnovers at that place. I noticed on several occasions that the staff would be engaged in personal conversations while transporting my mother in her lift. Obviously the patient wasn't their biggest concern. While some staff genuinely cared for her, there were others that seemed to be unconcerned about her as a patient. She was diabetic and the LVNs nor the CNAs paid close attention to her feet. I found a couple of sores on her feet that I had to tell the nurse about. At one point her foot got infected and she almost lost her foot. But 2 years later at another facility her infection came back and she had to have part of her foot amputated. My father was a patient there for a while. He complained that late at night the staff would would be engaged in loud conversation in the hall and he could not rest due to all of the talking and laughter. At times the management wasn't very helpful. They said that they would handle my complaints, but sometimes nothing ever happened.

My husband was at Pflugerville Care Center and died. I had back surgery, and I went to the nursing home he was in; it was a horrible experience. The room was terrible; two people in the room is not good. My husband was put in the back of the room. I was able to go to physical therapy, and they got me out of bed. I was in better shape, but my husband was not. He had bed sores. The staff didn’t have enough training. One day, there was a woman asking to go to the restroom and a nurse aide -- that I felt was a good one -- was standing there, I said something to her, and she said, I know it. The legislator is worse than anything. There were no rules or regulations to regulate. It appears clean; there’s no odor there. When my husband was there, they had a good way of serving the plates in the kitchen. They must hire trained staff, but they really had a great turnover.
