Located in Montgomery County, the Borough of Lansdale is a friendly community home to just over 18,900 residents, of whom 16.2% are seniors aged 65 and older. Retirees can benefit from the area’s low levels of crime and affordable health care.
Seniors who require a high level of daily assistance and supervision may consider transitioning to a nursing home. At these communities, skilled nurses and aides are on-site 24 hours a day to provide seniors with personalized services, specialized therapies and wellness programming. According to the Genworth 2021 Cost of Care Survey, seniors can expect to pay $11,437 per month for a semiprivate room in a nursing home, which is quite expensive compared to both the statewide median and national average. Other long-term care options are available that may better suit a senior’s preferences and budget, including assisted living and home health care.
To help seniors and families navigate their long-term care options, the following guide offers information about nursing home care in Lansdale, including the average cost of these services, other care options and a list of local senior resources.

Greedy, not comforting & inadequate. From the stratospheric $6,000 monthly cost of Meadowwood, one would expect excellent care but it is pathetically far from it. My loved one has been there for 9 years and has paid over $500,000 in fees to Meadowood. Her living quarters are dingy and dirty despite paying a weekly cleaning session. The ever expanding, exhorbitant construction is a constant hindrance to the often physically challenged population. The "skilled nursing" staff is rude & unhelpful, often ignoring patients & are actually contentious towards even the most simple request. The dining staff consists of 14 & 15 year old children from neighboring schools & is subpar to say the least. The menu is tired & endlessly rotated, with residents having to contend with sharp tongued ‘Garden’ staffers. Provided that Meadowood has a captive audience, as many of these well-to-do individuals would be unable to move if they wanted to, this place simply needs to do better. Its more than heartbreaking to watch my loved one deal with these inadequate surroundings week after week. It is terribly distressing to have watched this person work their whole lives just to be marooned on a campus with unqualified, underperforming, nasty individuals to guide the final transition of life. Save yourself the money, time & heartache.

My mother stayed at St. Mary Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare for a little while. They were wonderful and very accommodating. She was there for two weeks for subacute rehab. They had lovely, accommodating staff. I have nothing negative to say about them. She wasn’t happy with the whole thing though. She was in a single room by herself and it was OK. COVID is going on, but they did the best they could under the circumstances. If somebody had an outbreak, they cut down people to visit.
She was in a subacute rehab, so it was like a hospital room. She had her own private room and it was up by the nurses’ station because she’s a fall risk, so it was noisy, but she needed that. It was an OK place. It wasn’t a 5-star hotel, but for what it was, it was good.
It was a Catholic facility, so they had a beautiful chapel. It was really good for pastoral care, which I thought she would like because she’s very religious. That was a wonderful thing. They had mass, and they had access to religious counseling to help you get through whatever you’re getting through. That was a nice asset. The staff was wonderful.
I looked at other places and I picked this one because they have a chapel that was beautiful and their pastoral care. Other facilities were more modern and had more activities, but she’s 90, so we picked this because of the religious piece of it, and it was wonderful for what we were looking for. It was great.

My mom moved into Elm Terrace Gardens. It’s not very large, but they go from independent to assisted living, and they have a section for memory care and nursing right in the facility. It’s close to home, she has a one-bedroom apartment, she has a living room, two walk-in closets, laundry facilities right in her room, and a walk-in shower. She’s in independent living, but we have a caregiver that followed her there, and works with her two days a week. The staff is extremely pleasant, very helpful, they have a system where if she doesn’t open her door in the morning by 10:00 am they come and knock on the door to make sure everything is OK. She also has a bracelet. All she has to do is push the button for assistance, and there are pull cords in the room. She likes the food, she has eaten things that she likes, and that she has not eaten before. They have a dining room for the evening meal, they have a self-serve cafeteria, she has a little kitchen in her apartment, she has a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and cabinets. So she can bring an extra bottle of water or an extra drink with her. The staff is wonderful. They have a service when they move her and a woman packs up her furniture, clothing, and toiletries. Then the woman follows the moving truck to the new home and unpacks everything for her. That’s a great service. They publish a monthly calendar, they have a van that takes them on excursions, shopping, or to the drugstore, and they go out one night for ice cream. All they have to do is sign up. Every quarter they have a Sunday brunch where they invite the family to attend. All you have to do is sign up and say how many people are going to go. You pay for the food, but it’s something special. They have church services, a communion service, and one day a month they have mass for them. She gets two meals a day, and she can choose what the meals are. The people are very nice, and when we moved her in the place was pretty spotless.

It’s the only issue, as my dad needs more attention. People are very, very accommodating though, as much as they can be. The food looks OK. It’s all on one floor, so it’s great. The rooms are nice. They just renovated the place not too long ago. They have nice hardwood floors and renovated bathrooms. Whether you’re in a room with two beds or one, they will have their own private bathroom in there. I thought that was nice.

How much pain does a 90 year old women have to endure? My Mother has a degenerative spine condition with 3 broken or compressed vertebrae. She had been stabilized by using Fentanyl for the pain. She was taken off this medication without my knowledge or consent. Recently she was in excruciating pain and was only given Tylenol. I visited her and she was in excruciating pain for 7 days without anything stronger than Tylenol for her pain. If you care about your loved ones, do not send them to this facility.

The person who accommodated me was very nice, answered the questions, and gave me plenty of time. They were having a handbag activity for the ladies when I was there, bingo, take them to church, and take some of the men to see college baseball games in the area. Accela Rehab and Care Center at Springfield was very helpful. It’s a nursing home and rehab in one. I saw the entire building. I walked in, I was greeted, I waited a few minutes for the tour person to come, and she walked me through. We started with the backyard, walked through the main floor which is where my mom would be staying, and we walked up to the floor above that for dementia patients and people who are needing more attentive care or one-on-one. Then, we went down to the ground floor, and she showed me the therapy, the cafeteria, the rec rooms, and the activity center. There are a few cosmetic things that needed to be updated, but otherwise, the attention to the patients from the staff was excellent. I couldn’t believe everybody was on a first-name basis. They had a good repertoire, and it seemed like a very efficient place.

If you care for your loved one please do not send them to Stapeley facility for nursing care. The personal care is better but not much; the nursing care is practically nonexistent. We had a wonderful guide on our personal care journey however the nursing side care givers, administration and executive director are absolutely horrible. Medical needs are brought to their attention over and over again, assurances are given that the needs will be met, yet nothing happens and another hospitalization results. Staff and administration are equally rude, dismissive, defensive and uncaring. I am happy to share details with anyone but don’t have enough space here to detail all the deficiencies at this nursing facility.

First what is good about this facility. it is clean well cared for, it even smells "normal" I don’t think the food is anything to rave about, but I think a lot of that has to do with the dietary restrictions placed on most residents.
Now why I cannot recommend this facility to you. When I was there visiting my mother-in-law. The common area was filled with clearly very old people just sitting all watching one small TV. I believe there were at least 30 perhaps 50 patients on the floor and at most 4 visible staff members. My Mother-in-Law is quite ill and she told me the called for help one night (she was cold) no one ever came. There were small thefts (they called them things misplaced) in the week that she was there, and finally they did not seem to notice that she was getting sicker not better during her week of rehab. They informed us that she was not improving and she would have to leave on Friday. They provided no advice on what we should do next, and two days before she was suppose to leave my brother-in-law had to call 911 to have her returned to the hospital. I don’t wish to supply to much more in the way of details but I think she might not have survived if my brother-in-law at not called for help. Of course I have no real way of knowing that, it is only how I feel. Still I would look elsewhere for services.

From physical therapy to swimming pools to salons to shows, you name it, they have it. It’s very lovely. They bring singers in, there’s entertainment, and people never have to be bored ever. They don’t just sit in their room and stare at the walls. They do things with them. It’s beautiful.
They also do exercises with them, bingo, arts and crafts, and painting nails the women if they wanted to. It’s very large and luxurious. When all your money runs out, Medicaid can take over. So, they don’t kick you out and that’s what’s good about it.

Staff and administration show no compassion for the family whatsoever only allowing two people in the room with the patient and no one is allowed to stay overnight with their loved one. So my friend will probably die alone tonight. This is unconscionable and inhumane.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Lansdale, PA
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
