Nursing Home Communities in Fort Washington, PA

"My sister moved up to Phoebe Richland Community. It was very welcoming. They gave her all the physical therapy she could handle, which was great. She had physical therapy almost every day and occupational therapy almost every day when she got there. She still gets it quite frequently. The staff is very nice. She enjoys the other residents there. She says she has a wonderful time getting to know them and they're very caring also. I was there one Saturday when the director himself was helping someone move into their memory care area. He was moving the clothing and stuff in himself on a Saturday. They're just delightful. There's an exercise class of some kind every morning, wheelchair volleyball, chair, or tai-chi. There's at least one activity every morning and one or two activities every afternoon. Every day I call or when I talk to my sister, she'll say, "Oh yes, we had an exercise this morning." It's a smaller place, so they can't offer the diversity of activities that a larger facility might offer. The assisted living has a beautiful lounge area when you walk in. The dining room is lovely. You couldn't ask for anything better. I get no complaints from my sister except there's no salt, but she can bring some herself. That's for health reasons. I saw two small library reading areas, a game room, a big lounge, and a dining room. She's in a temporary room right now because there were no rooms available, so it's a little small but very nice and furnished. It has a dresser, a wardrobe, a chair, a bed, a little kitchenette, and a beautiful bathroom that's handicapped accessible. It is less expensive than others for definitely something better. Their staff is especially caring. This place is much more consistent with their staffing, which means the staff gets to know their people better."

"Everything was great. I saw how they have treated all of their other patients, alongside how they treated me. Overall, I Have no complaints at al!"

"My mother is currently at Ambler Extended Care. She is a stroke victim with dementia and in a wheelchair. She has been there a year and it's the best choice we've made. Her previous place was horrible. The aids stole her stuff, neglected her and she hated the food. Here she is happy, there are endless activities, the staff is kind and she loves the food options. Ambler is by no means perfect, but the genuinely care for my mother. Ambler has extended her quality of life tremendously. Im grateful for all they do. "

"Business brought me into the heart of this facility and there is nothing I can find negative. My inside travels clearly showed the staff to be well above average in every way. The sincerity and care is easy to see in the interplay between the staff and the residents; there is laughter,camaraderie, respect and genuine interest which shine through. I saw and felt genuine relationships and friendships. On one visit I was in awe watching a young aide wheeling a crying resident down the hall; the aide was pushing with one hand while using her other to soothe the woman by rubbing her shoulder and play with her hair. She then leaned over rubbed her cheek and said "we can't have this...let's go and find something we can do for fun." My overall feelings were confident and comfortable. I would (and have) happily referred to this facility. I would have no hesitation if the need arose to place one of my own loved one's into these caring hands. "

"My mother recently spent 3 months at Brookside prior to her passing. The facility doctor and the entire staff were attentive and genuinely caring and kind. They have good rules and procedures in place to keep residents safe and healthy and respond quickly to family questions. Brookside gave me peace of mind during a very difficult time and is a very good alternative if your loved one is no longer able to live at home."

"My mother is living in Edgehill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pennsylvania. I don't really know that much because she just moved there, but our experience has been very good. They answer their phone promptly, and if I have any questions, they are happy to answer them. The woman that does the intake is going to help me fill out the medical assistance forms. The nurses seem very nice. It's a small center, and it's close to where my cousin lives. There are a lot of positive things. They have her on a diet that is puréed, so it's not very delicious looking. I haven't been in there; nobody is allowed in. The value for the money is very good. They do physical therapy and occupational therapy, and they do hospice care. They do CAT scans there, and they have a doctor."

"I toured Spring House Estates. The apartments, the food, and the accommodations were very nice. That's also a place where they had gathered up their residents to talk to you about their experiences. The gym was huge. That's where they have all their activities. They have separate rooms for arts and crafts. They have a library and a computer room, and their mail room was very nice. They have a concierge desk where they receive their packages."

"My mother-in-law (MIL) was sent home after her first stay at Harston when her Medicare eligibility expired. She still seemed very weak and not well. Harston said she was fine, and ready to go home. Three days later she collapsed at the kitchen table in my house and we assumed she was dead. There was no pulse. I administered CPR which did work and it got her heart going again. We had called 911 and they showed up shortly afterward. After a few days at the hospital she was readmitted to Harston, and my MIL really wanted to go to Harston. It is apparently the closest facility which offers dialysis which my MIL needs.My MIL liked Harston and felt very well treated there. She mostly liked the food, the rehab, and the medical people she interacted with there. We did not like it. It seemed shabby. It catered somehow to a lot of poor elderly people who seemed to be in very bad shape. When they discharged her again the 2nd time we were leery. But she's indeed been in better shape since she came home the second time. "

"My family and I visited this facility and I'm very surprised . There was no odor of urine or anything else, And it was quiet. Alot of people were either outside or playing bingo. Staff were very nice... They kept asking if we needed help. The rooms were alittle small except for the 1 person room. I noticed a couple of people decorated their rooms with their own stuff. I just noticed some people got fed snacks at different times. When I asked about this, they said this was because they wanted to get the mans weight up. The patio was nice, I just didn't like the smoke."

"I am a weekly volunteer at the nursing home facility for retired Sisters of St Joseph who are infirmed and, in some cases have alzheimers. The facility also has lay people who need constant care or, in some cases, are recuperating from surgery. The facility has 24/7 nursing care with physical therapy on-site and water aerobics. The nearest hospital is 10 minutes away. There are 7 floors to the facility. It is clean, bright and cheerful with many solariums to rest and relax as well as grounds for those who are able to walk around with the help of staff or volunteers. The staff are very caring of all patients, but those who suffer from alzheimers need specific care and the nursing staff is always kind an patient to them. It is a wonderful facility and gives tremendous care to all the patients there. "

"I am certain that a lot of people would expect to hear horror stories from the care received while in any care facility. Might I first start off, by saying that when I arrived at Garden Spring center, I was just recently declared dead. Again. The previous facility I was in went through this with me on more than one occasion, in the same stay. Please note.. I have a nasty attitude towards authority, and anyone who thinks they know me, better than I do. Of course, when unable to fend for oneself, this becomes exactly the environment I found myself in. From day one, the focus was on recovery. Yes, some of the instructions I was given seemed beyond my capabilities, and I gave them a hassle trying new things for the first time. After all, my confidence was at an all time low... I could not speak correctly, nor could I properly put pen to paper to express my needs. They helped me not only recover, make new friends, and learn how to aid myself in a bad situation (should it arise again), they also watched me WALK out of the facility. They provided me with aftercare specialists, and made sure I had medication enough for the transition to my primary doctor. While in the facility, I noticed each staff member working as hard as they could to get things done. While conversation was not always available, it was because the staff were busy working. All I can say, is I went in dead, and walked out...... without so much as a personal hassle inside. When I call back, I get friendly responses, and many staff remember me, even if I forgot some of them, either due to being near dead, or just a time lapse in my brain. Their conflict resolution is above average in my opinion, as I had many an issue (see above authority issues). They are willing to talk, and negotiate with the needs of the residents, rather than saying it is their way or no way. I can't say how much it means to me, that I went in a lost cause, and now I have life, and the ability to be confident, if I should find myself in a position to be cared for again, that this facility has the means, and the attitude, to send me happy and healthy back to the world I came in from. "

"I think this center makes every effort to provide the best care possible. my Dad's complaints are sometimes the food and his room mate, but I feel it is a good place with caring workers. "
