Nursing Home Communities in Lakewood, OH

"This isn't a nursing home, it's a short-term rehab care facility and everybody who enters is expected to be fully well within a few weeks. My relative was put in here after her doctors (two physicians who have practiced a long time at Lakewood Hospital and won awards, etc.) recommended she be put there for recovery from a post-surgical complication. The head of the Skilled Nursing disagreed with the doctors causing a big argument over whether my relative would be admitted there or not, and when she finally was I thought the people in charge did not provide her with very good care. For example, they did not follow dietary guidelines communicated through her doctors and left her alone in a situation that led to a fall (fortunately she wasn't injured). They were basically looking for an excuse to transfer her out and I was relieved when she did go to another facility as I was really afraid something would happen to her in there. I understand Lakewood Hospital may be closing soon anyway. "

"The home was dirty, the staff was unprofessional and rude and the atmosphere was awful. I felt that the staff did not care about their patients. They used curse words with each other, made fun of residents and seemed unwilling to help visitors. I would never leave a family member at this place. They should be ashamed of the way they treat residents. The residents I spoke with seemed unhappy about being at Crestmont, disliked the way they were treated and expressed feeling that they were a burden. No one should ever feel like that at a nursing home. The floors and walls were dirty. Resident rooms were not kept up, I saw stains on furniture and tears in the drapes. What an awful place!! "

"Algart Health Care is an assisted living facility which offers independent options to seniors, that need increasingly skilled care. It is really a beautiful place, it is very tastefully decorated. The residents have access to a library, store and salon. They provide a shuttle for everyone. My aunt was a resident there for many years. The apartments are VERY nice. Expensive, but nice. All have flat showers, cable, internet and phone. The meals are quite enjoyable. The kitchen staff is wonderful, even though it must be hard to please everyone. My aunt was very pleased with the selections. You can also watch t.v. or listen to music during your meal. One nice feature is that they have a private kitchen and dining room so families can reserve the place to have a family dinner or movie. We have found their nursing services very consistent. They have several nurses on staff, that make sure every resident gets the care they need. My Aunt Carol always got her meds on time, and raved about the medical staff. They all seemed caring and dedicated.Most of the staff were nice people who were happy to work there. I was always greeted with a smile and friendly tones. My Aunt passed away last year, but I KNOW she lived out her final days happy. I would highly recommend Algart Health Care to everyone. "

"My husband is in St. Augustine Health Ministries. The caring is very, very good. The professionalism is also very good. His room is very spacious and very clean. They offer activities. They have a nice recreational facility. They have mass every day. They have very good physical therapy and occupational therapy. The respiratory therapy is excellent."

"During the time that my grand father and great uncle were being cared for at Manor Care, I visited multiple times and observed many aspects of the care provided. The staff were pleasant for the most part and some of the nurses really took a liking to and provided a type of friendship to my grand father. There was some issues with the physical therapy department keeping tabs on my great uncle. He often was not taken to his appointments for physical therapy after breaking his leg. He ended up staying an extra two weeks because of this. "

"We moved my sister to O'Neill Healthcare Fairview Park. It's family-owned. I have tasted their food, and it's good. They have a chef, which is good. The only complaint is they have steak and chicken in lots of ways, and for me, that's not necessarily good. They don't have trouble keeping employees. Everybody seems very happy. It's one-story, so everything is on one floor. They have a front porch where they can go out and enjoy the fresh air. It's really nice. The facility is very well maintained. I rated it the highest number. The staff is very attentive. Every time I go in there with additional questions, they're very attentive and are always available. Regarding activities, I don't think they have very many, because these people are in the final stages. They have parties, get-togethers, and movies and stuff, but they don't have many physical activities. They have rehab services in the basement, and they take them down by elevator. They accept Medicare waivers, so that's a plus."

"The staff is amazing, they went above and beyond my expectations. They really treated my loved one as if they were apart of their own family. I am highly impressed with the care and I would definitely recommend the facility. "

"This review is for the nursing home portion of the complex (it also has various levels of independent and assisted living). It is in a lovely location with gardens, a park and the lake right across the street. The meal menus are decent and there seem to be a lot of activities. However, this place is better for people who do not need a lot of nursing care but rather just need a little help with dressing or bathing, or someone to keep an eye on them during the day. My impression is that the facility is understaffed and is not able to respond that efficiently to people who are bedridden or have needs throughout the day. I am not sure if they have a lot of Alzheimers or dementia patients but there was also definitely a tendency among some staff to treat older people like little children and be patronizing towards them, which does not work well with everybody especially people who are still in their right minds. I also had significantly more trouble here getting calls through to residents and other persons at the facility than I did elsewhere; often the phone would just ring and ring till it hung up without ever going to VM, and once a staff member answered and handed the phone off to a resident who I did not know at all and was not the person I was trying to reach. "

"Avenue at Brooklyn Care and Rehabilitation Center is a brand-new facility. I just liked it because the rooms were private and clean, and mom has her own bathroom. She has a nice view. Based on what I've seen, it looks like a 5-star hotel to me. They only had one tenant there at the time I went. They have nice-sized rooms where she can move around. All the rooms are big enough for someone who's in a wheelchair or a walker. They have enough space that they're not bumping into stuff. They had several dining rooms for them to eat at. They had the main dining room with a grand piano in there. So it looked like they were going out to eat. I just like it because it's quiet and it's private, and it was something that my mom could transition into. They have an outdoor area for them to walk around. They also have a little library kind of setting or a computer room/library, an exercise room or a therapy room, and a beauty salon if they need their hair cut or nails done. They also had a bistro. They have an activities room for them to do activities. If mom was to get worse, she would just move into the same building but to another section of the building where they have Alzheimer's and dementia patients."

"I went to the facility to a tour because I was looking at different places for my mother. I met with the woman who is over there admissions and she showed me around the building. The facility seems clean and the staff seemed very friendly I was told they take the residents on outings at least once a month to places like walmart, red lobster,& olive garden. They provide church services in house, and they have a bank there too. There is 5 different units that cater to the different needs of the residents.It seems like a nice and clean a place I'd concider putting my mother. It's also on the same campus as the biggest trauma hospital in ohio, that's also a plus. "

"My mother was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease in early 2007. At that time, it was manageable. She moved into our home & we went about our daily lives as best we could. About a year later in 2008, mom started showing significant signs of dementia as well & the heartwrenching decision to place her in a care facility was made. We visited numerous facilities & the one that really stood out to us was Manor Care in North Olmsted, Ohio. The staff there really cares about the patients as if they're family members of their own. The facility is extremely organized, efficient, & provide excellent alzheimers care. They've really been a blessing to us. As my mom slips further into the disease, not only are they taking excellent care of her, the staff there has been a godsend to our family. We visit almost daily & it never ceases to amaze me how much they really do care. I'd recommend this facility to anyone in a similar position. "
