It seems that experiences in the independent living area of Normandy are significantly different from our experience with a family member who was in the memory care area. The level of incompetence regarding the most routine of issues has been astonishing. Property disappearing and being told "it happens" is just not acceptable. The staff was unable to accommodate dietary restrictions on a consistent basis, causing significant weight loss and exacerbating other health issues. We have also waited nearly 3 weeks for medical records to be released, despite a State requirement that they be provided within 2 business days. We will be working with the County ombudsman to file a complaint and will also be exploring legal avenues that are available to us. In the meantime, I do not recommend this facility for memory care patients. The administration is inept and non-responsive at best. Your loved ones deserve better.

This review is for the nursing home portion of the complex (it also has various levels of independent and assisted living). It is in a lovely location with gardens, a park and the lake right across the street. The meal menus are decent and there seem to be a lot of activities. However, this place is better for people who do not need a lot of nursing care but rather just need a little help with dressing or bathing, or someone to keep an eye on them during the day. My impression is that the facility is understaffed and is not able to respond that efficiently to people who are bedridden or have needs throughout the day. I am not sure if they have a lot of Alzheimers or dementia patients but there was also definitely a tendency among some staff to treat older people like little children and be patronizing towards them, which does not work well with everybody especially people who are still in their right minds. I also had significantly more trouble here getting calls through to residents and other persons at the facility than I did elsewhere; often the phone would just ring and ring till it hung up without ever going to VM, and once a staff member answered and handed the phone off to a resident who I did not know at all and was not the person I was trying to reach.
