Independent Living Communities in Rocky River, OH

"We checked Vitalia Active Adult Community North Olmsted. It's way too far out and way too much traffic; but otherwise, it was absolutely gorgeous. They have wonderful staff, wonderful facility, and beautiful apartments. It would have been a perfect place for my parents if it was not too far out. They have another assister building not too far away that is a skilled nursing home, but it's not on the same site. We would have physically had to move my parents about 10 miles for the next step down. They are connected to each other literally through a walkway. They actually have not officially opened their assisted living yet. There are only two people living in that facility right now because they were waiting for their license to get there. Then they have seven others to move in there, and then they have lots of rooms available. We did get to tour it, but they weren't going to be ready for more people to move into like the beginning of September. As far as their full meals, the kitchen was not up yet. The residents that were living there were in the assisted living side. It's a brand new building, and they have just finished building it. They had two people on that side working full time: a nurse and a nurse's assistant. They had an activities person over there working right now. We met everybody that was there at the time, and they were fantastic. The distance is the problem; it is way too far, and it is really in the middle of nowhere. It literally is on the North Olmstead-Westlake border. The problem is it's in the middle of a MetroPark, and there's really nothing that they could walk to to do anything. There's a very busy road that runs right past it."

"At Independence Village they had a fund-raising dinner my wife and I went to. The food was really good, and the dining setup was like a fine restaurant. The room has a pretty nice setup too. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchenette, a small dining-area, and living-room. It was in a good location, especially now that I’m still able to walk. There’s a giant eagle out there. The staff seemed fine, very nice, and courteous. "

"Danbury always felt like a home to us. Friendly staff, clean and spacious apartments, nurses that care and alerted us when things just didn’t look right with our father. We were at ease knowing he was safe and well cared for. After living in the Danbury independent villas, which are wonderful, we made the decision to move our father to the assisted living building. Danbury made the move an easy transition for our father and we were glad Danbury’s care was always consistent and thoughtful."

"We toured Vitalia North Royalton. It was nice, clean, and bright. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They're good."

"My father was at Mount Alverna Village. When he was there, he did get excellent care. They were very attentive and very knowledgeable medical-wise. They took really good care of him. Well, my dad didn't participate in anything. The only thing my dad did was go to Mass every morning, so I don't really know what they provide. The food was very good. You could tell it was home-cooked, and it was really good food. The dining room was small, but I think they did that on purpose so people can socialize. It was clean, and it had a very nice homey atmosphere. "

"Vitalia Senior Residences at Strongsville was very big. The food was good. I didn't see a room because they didn't have one available. I liked the person who was touring with me. They had a kitchen where they can cook, they had a dining room and a small area where if they didn't want a big meal, they can go anytime for soup, sandwiches, and salad. They had an exercise area and a small pool."

"The tour we had at Vitalia Rockside - Active Adult Community was very nice. The young lady that I worked with was so sweet. She made me feel comfortable. I had some questions that she said she would look into for me and she also told me, "You can come here and join us for things. If you want, I'll send you a calendar when things go on and you could come and join us." I thought that was nice. It's modern. They didn't have a lobby or a place where people could go outside of their rooms. All they had in the middle of it that I saw was their dining area. There weren't a lot of rooms like seating rooms and things like a lot of them have. They said there was a library on another floor, but I didn't see it. The food was awesome. They offered me lunch. The menus were very good. I had an omelet and it was very good. They have a bakery and things, restaurant style, where you can just go and get something all day whenever you want. The chef is good. They gave me strawberries, and they were fresh and so good."

"I toured Rose Senior Living Beachwood for assisted living. The apartment style was very nice. They supply a refrigerator, stove, and microwave. They supply three meals a day."

"I have moved into Richmond Heights Place. It's clean and nice, there's no problem with it. The staff is okay. The ones I come in contact with have been very nice. The only problem I have, as with every assisted living nursing care, is that there are not enough people. One of the bad things is that your care has been cut in half. The room is okay, it's L-shaped. At one end of the room is the bed and table, and there's also another table at the right-side area. On the other side, there's a couch, a TV, a table, and a bookcase. I have my dresser from my home and a nice closet. They have a beauty salon and other amenities. I have not gone to the gym because I have been having care in my room. They have movies and people that do different things, and they have bingo. They clean the room once a week and they shower you sometimes too. There's not enough staff. The value for money is okay, but I think all nursing homes are expensive. The food is okay. I'm not thrilled with the food, it's not bad, but it's not great."

"I looked an empty apartment here, and the lady who assisted me said she had already rented it to someone but said she would put me on the waiting list. They had an assisted living and a nursing home. The attendants were nice to me, and the workers seemed to be alright. The apartment she showed me was an older apartment, but it was clean and freshly painted. They have a beautiful dining room downstairs. She said if I had a government apartment that I would have to buy my own food and when the bus went to the grocery store, I would be able to get on it. They have technicians to help you in the training room for your exercises. They go on field trips 2 or 3 times a month. They had a community room, and they were playing cards; some people were reading. It was nice and clean. Everybody was required to have one meal a day in the dining room."
