With more than 20,000 baby boomers turning 65 every year and a mild climate, Charlotte is proving to be an ideal retirement destination in the Southeast. As the home of Atrium Health, Charlotte is at the forefront of advances in medicine, and its status as a hub for American Airlines makes travel easy for residents and out-of-town family members alike. An affordable cost of living, more than 200 days of sunshine per year and several senior centers in and around Mecklenburg County have consistently earned the Queen City praise as a top retirement destination. Many adults have already discovered for themselves what makes Charlotte a great place to retire, as more than 85,000 seniors call it home.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
