"We visited and I like that it's a smaller community, and I like the number of licensed CPA and CNA that they have. They pay attention to how much assistance each resident might need. "

"My father will be moving into The Pines on Carmel. I visited the assisted living, but I also visited the memory care to visit his wife, who is already there. I like the staff. Jim is the community coordinator, and he is wonderful to work with. He is top-notch and knows his business. If you have a question, you can ask anyone. They're always very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They were serving a meal. It smelled delicious, and I could see that there was a very coordinated plan for getting the residents in and to their seats. Everything was done in a very orderly manner. It's very clean, bright, has lots of comfortable places for residents to gather, and very welcoming, indoors and out. It has a traditional design. They are one of the few facilities that still accept Medicaid spenddown, and they are a very fine facility at that. That's hard to find."

"We have chosen Spring Arbor of Steele Creek, and it was for assisted living. It's for both my parents, so they needed to have a suite-apartment style option, and they have that available there. The staff was very friendly. The facility itself was bright and sunny. The rooms were bright and funny, too. They had several activities and opportunities for my parents to socialize and meet other neighbors that are there in the community. It was in a lovely, suburban type setting. It was also very close to major medical facilities. My parents could easily get to doctors' appointments, and dental appointments, and things like that, which would accept their medical supplementary insurance. So that was also really an advantage. They had a hair salon, a media room, and a library. Each floor was set up where there were places for people to sit down and have conversations. They have sofas, club chairs, tables, and stuff so that you could mingle throughout your day. Their kitchen area was like a multi-purpose area for larger group events. I like the fact that every day they had something planned that my parents would enjoy, whether it was Bible study, arts and crafts, or movies and things like that, so there was a variety of options throughout the week. They also had the opportunity to go out to eat or go on planned excursions for the community. So that also factored into my decision."

"This facility was very nice compared to others that I have visited. It was a very nice building and seemed lively (as opposed to the extremely bland facilities that I had seen in the past), the grounds were very nice as well so that was a definite plus for anyone who wanted to go get some fresh air. The staff was very nice and helped me find my grandmothers room along with giving me a little tour of the facilities. Overall, it seemed like a very good place for my grandmother to be - she seems to be enjoying herself with the freedom she has and only complained that she didn't have as many choices on things to eat! "

"Watercrest Fort Mill - Indian Land was a beautiful building. They still have a ways to go to fill it up, and there wasn't quite as much in the way of facilities as the other place. The residents, especially, were not quite as friendly. They seemed more standoffish. I don't know if that's because they may have had more money (because the place is more expensive), but it was very nice. The one-bedroom wasn't big enough, although that's what we were prepared for financially. The two-bedroom was big enough, but it's more expensive than what we want to spend. The menu looked good. They had a bar, which wasn't open when we were there. They didn't have a lot of meeting-type activities like clubs and things like that. It didn't seem like there was as much to do during the day. It was very beautiful, but it didn't seem to meet our needs. They also have memory care."

"It is very nice. We wanted to continue seeing it, so it has a very nice lobby. The staff was very nice, very helpful, and gave all the information that we possibly need. That was the big thing because the apartment is small. The size would be good for a single person, but for us it would be kind of small. We did look around, and they have rooms for all kinds of activities for crafts and reading. It is good because they seem to have a lot of rooms. We went to the dining room, and it has a nice dining area. It is very bright and pleasant. "

"The Post At Providence has been a Godsend for our parent and our family. Yes, the home is beautiful, comfortable and clean. But it's the caring staff, the friendly residents and their family members who make this a Five Star facility. Since our parent has been there, the journey has been less stressful and more meaningful because of this group of wonderful people. Thanks to all of you. "

"We chose Brighton Gardens because they had availability, and the age population was the right fit for my husband. He's only been there about two weeks, and so far so good. I am impressed with their location, and I just had a good feel of the place. You just kind of walk-in, and it has a good feel; it doesn't feel like it is institutional. "

"Emeritus South Park is dedicated completely to memory care, which was what mom needed. The staff there was extremely helpful, very nice, and caring. The food was very good. It's very nice place. Mom has her own room, own closet, her own bathroom, and we were allowed to decorate her room for her. "

"I've moved into Brookdale Carriage Club Providence. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful. My apartment is small, so it takes a little while to get used to. It's a one-bedroom apartment and it's very nice, well-maintained, and well cared for. In terms of all the places I looked at, it was moderately priced. It was kind of in the midrange of all of them. They have a big, well-managed, well-run cafeteria or dining room. The food is good and adequate. They have a pool and a big auditorium. It's a large facility. I think it's on ten acres or something. There's a walking path and two lakes on the property."

"Summit Place of Southpark looked really good. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the substitute team did their best to show me around. It looked beautiful. I arrived at lunchtime, and it smelled very good. The dining room was cheerful."

"It was more homey for my mother-in-law. The people were more welcoming. The residents that were there were very friendly. It's an older building. It's a little less expensive because you're not paying for all the modern looks. They have activities and meals. There are three floors, and each floor has four caregivers, so if one of the patients needs something, they're right there. They have all the appliances. The staff member was fantastic. There wasn't a question that we asked her that she didn't answer. She was very upfront and helpful. Their activity room was kind of in disarray. They're doing some kind of Disney feature, so it was a wreck. If it didn't have the sign out front, you would think it was an apartment building."

"Sunrise on Providence was a very clean place with adequate activities. I saw a nice single room and a double room. It was one of the places that I liked more than the others, and their price was OK. I saw a sitting room where they can watch TV and a game room."

"Sunflower Springs of Lake Wylie was very nice. The people seemed very nice when we were talking to them initially. They told us that they could follow my mom's renal diet, that they would make sure that all her medication got administered, and that if we wanted to take her out for the day, they would get her medication ready. It was no problem, all that kind of stuff. My mom was there for just under a month. However, they did not get the last of her medication in until about two days before we took her out, so she wasn't taking some of her medications for the entire time. They also yelled at my sister when she came to pick my mom up because they didn't want to have to get her medication ready. That happened a couple of times, actually, even though we called and gave them a couple of hours' notice. The chef came out and told my mom that he absolutely could not follow her renal diet, so she just needed to eat what was put in front of her. Due to that, we took her out. Her renal issues got a lot worse. She was not being bathed like she was supposed to. The entire time she was there, they came, I think, one time to help her take a bath, and she ended up with an antibiotic-resistant UTI, which is why we ended up taking her out. My mom got a temporary room that was pre-furnished. It looked more like a hotel than a senior community, like most of them we looked at. The whole facility is very well taken care of because it's brand new. Most of the people who worked there were nice enough, but they just could not deliver what they had promised. For activities, as far as I can tell, they do outings once a week. Mom never really got to participate in any of those, but they do them on a lottery system. So you sign up, and then they draw names because they can only take so many people. The facility is behind a grocery store. It's not a terrible location. It's pretty easy to get in and out of. I know that emergency response time is pretty quick because the day that we toured, somebody burnt popcorn in their microwave, so the fire department came. It was not a big deal, but they got there really quickly. So that was actually a plus. They have a couple of sitting areas on each floor where they can go and sit and watch TV as a community. They have a salon, and I think once a week, somebody comes in and does hair. They have a game room/library area. My mom didn't really spend time on any of those, but I saw them on the tour. They also had a couple of balconies that were kind of the community seating areas upstairs that they could go out to."
