My mother has been resident of The Blake at Baxter Village since March 2023. After recovery from a surgery, the family realized that due to cognitive decline, that she could no longer care for herself in her condo in New York. After doing some research into home health assistance or facilities in NY we decided to move her closer to family in South Carolina. After one tour of The Blake, I was confident that the location, apartment layout and services would be a good fit. The staff who work directly with residents from the dining room servers, Med Techs and Personal Assistants are all amazing! There is a wide range of social activities available, from group exercise classes, coveted BINGO and my mother’s favorite “social hour on Wednesdays”. They go on shopping trips, partake in local Baxter events and go visit many of the fun places in York County like orchards and parks.

Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. They do not care about the residents at all. The leadership is AWFUL and hide behind a door. My mother in law lived there for a year and we tried to make it work but after being given another residents medication for 2 weeks, having her room filthy and inhabitable because they don't have housekeeping she was forced to live with feces on her floor for days at a time, the toilet would be clogged for DAYS and no one to help fix it. They claim they have housekeeping and maintenance onsite but that is false. They can't keep staff so they sometimes pay for a company to come in to clean but most times they just leave it and the resident lives in filth. There is no weekly cleanings as they tell you. Its garbage removal and that's about it. My MIL has an incontinence problem and they would leave the stains on the floor for days at a time. You would ask for it to be cleaned and they would never send anyone in. When we found out she had been given another residents medication for 2 weeks and reported it we were told they would look into it and get back to us. Never heard another word. They were bothered we brought it to their attention. She could have died taking someone else's medication and who knows what could have happened to the other resident going without. We would try to meet with the ED but she was always "busy" or "in a meeting". The executive staff is rude, inconsiderate and do not want to be bothered with dealing with families or residents. One of the med techs pushed me because she was upset I reported her to her manager for instructing my MIL to not take prescribed medication because she felt it wasn't helping. We asked her several times to not have that conversation with my MIL and she continued so we reported her so she pushed me. If she pushes me, my MILs advocate, what does she do to my MIL and other patients when we are not there? We reported it and nothing happened. They continued to have her work with our MIL. We had to put a camera in the room because we were worried for her safety as we found another place for her to live. My MILs room had a door to a patio, we asked weekly to ensure the door was locked at night for her safety as she was not able to lock the door herself. The door was ALWAYS unlocked. So we got to the point she couldn't go outside because they never ensured the door was locked at night. It's very easy to gain access to those rooms and the residents as the lock is tricky and challenging for residents so who knows what could happen. The staff doesn't check the doors so anyone can get in if they tried. They do so many sneaky things when families are not looking and when you call them out on it they act like you're stupid. Communication is awful. My MIL fell one night and they didn't inform us until 11:30 am the following day. When asked what happened I was told the book was "too far away to get" that would have the report in it. Luckily, she was OK but you can't rely on them to keep you posted if your family member falls unless they are taken out via ambulance. They cannot stand family members who are active participants in their loved ones lives. They don't want to be held accountable for anything. It may look nice and have all the bells and whistles you want, but believe me, you're doing a disservice to your family member putting them there. Tour other facilities, you will see the ED has their office doors open for families to see them, greet them and make them feel like your family member matters. Not Sara, the ED there. She could care less and it shows. They can't keep staff because they treat them so poorly so residents have no consistency which is important as they progress in their disease. Go find another place and don't make the same mistake we made.

My mother is at the Blake at Baxter Village. We chose it mostly because of the memory care and then their ability to make sure she's eating correctly, she's hydrating, and she's getting her medication at the correct time. The staff is very helpful. Most of the activities are just getting out. Some of them are able to go and do different things like arts and crafts, and possibly a shopping day or something like that, but most of the people that are in memory care are unable. There are various degrees of people in memory care. It's a new facility and it's very clean. They have a courtyard and a hair salon. It's near restaurants and hospitals.

The Blake At Baxter Village was very nice. We liked the people that were helping us, like Alex. She helped us out a lot. Overall, I thought it was nice for the value. The apartments were nice. They're bigger than some of the other ones I saw. The dining room was beautiful and nice. They have an outdoor area right off the dining area and then they have a private room if you want to have a family dinner. They order off of a menu instead of just everything preselected and then they just bring it to you. In some places, you have to order what you want a week ahead of time, but this place offers choices every day. From what I saw, the outdoor areas looked nice.

We liked pretty much everything about our tour of The Blake at Baxter Village. We like the way it looks, the program, the atmosphere, the age of the people, and the services that they offer. It seems to be a well-run place, and a well-put together place. It will serve my mother and what her needs are now. I was able to meet with the director who was very thorough on what she did. From what I viewed and saw, the facility had a lot of things that they could offer the people. I also looked in the room, they had a salon, they had a courtyard, an art room, and a movie theater.

The Blake At Baxter Village was OK. The tour was pretty thorough. They offered a lot of different things, but it just didn't appeal to me. The person who gave the tour was very nice and knowledgeable. The rooms were fairly small. I have a king-sized bed and it wouldn't fit in the bedroom. The community was OK and homey. The dining area is just a big room with lots of tables in it. At the time I was there, they had somebody there singing, but that's all they're doing.

The Blake at Baxter Village was very cosmopolitan, very sophisticated, and a little upper level. It was very nice, clean, and new. It had a lot of amenities, but it was definitely more expensive than others. The staff was great. The space was nice. I didn't get to meet much of the staff though. We only met the sales director and maybe one CNA. The sales director was friendly; she's great. It was like a hotel lobby and it's very nice. It kind of had a different feel, not near as downhome friendly. It's more of an upper class type of assisted living and more intellectual based. They had a theater, a workout room, and a little craft room.

We have chosen The Blake at Baxter Village. We went to see it and they were really friendly and informative. I just liked everything about the place. I thought it would be an excellent new home for my mother. They showed me the assisted living part. Diana was the one who showed me the place, and I just really liked her because she was straightforward. She did not try to pressure me, and she answered a lot of questions that I wasn't clear on before I talked with her. I toured the dining area and I was really impressed with the menu that I saw. They had a special of the day, and then a nice menu that you could choose from if you weren't interested in the special of the day. They had a courtyard, a beauty salon, and an area where people could gather and visit. They had a rehab section and a couple of cafeterias, one for memory care and one for assisted living.
