"Westminster is all on one floor so it would be easy to evacuate residents in case of any natural disaster, or in case there was a fire. The staff was all courteous, willing and helpful to answer any questions I might have, and to show my mother around. There were 4 to 5 mini buses to take you shopping, pick up scripts, and doctor’s appointments. The security system was good, and I was never standing in a hallway more than 10 minutes before somebody in the staff came by and asked me if they can help me. It was very positive. "

"My sister-in-law will move into Park Pointe Village. I liked the dining there, the saltwater pool, and all their activities. We have a small studio, and we're waiting for a larger room to open up. The staff was down to earth, very pleasant, and had a great sense of humor. The food was excellent, and there were lots of choices, and all the people were very friendly."

"Southminster was very nice. I had a friend who lived there for a while. It’s also high-end; so you got to put money upfront. She had a two-bedroom apartment with two baths. I went there for dinner, and it was nice. The food was very good. They had a library, a little retail shop, a place where they do activities like cards, games, and stuff like that. "

"The Cypress of Charlotte is a very nice, very, very well maintained, and a top of the line community. However, you have to buy the units, and the one I was looking at was somewhere between $700,000 and $800,000. What makes Cypress of Charlotte different is, it is a buy-in, the rest of them are not. When you buy the units, you also pay the taxes, but when you die or you move out, you can sell the unit, so the money comes back to you. I almost purchased a unit there but I decided not to because for the price, it was too small."

"I explored Sharon Towers and was interested in them, but since they’re building right now, it is about a year to a year and a half before they will have anything ready. The facilities are very, very nice. Everything is good there, but they did not take note of my long-term care policy, which will roughly pay for everything I need if I need long-term care. The atmosphere was very pleasant, though. I did not see any of the rooms because they did not have everything available. I have seen the floor plans, so I have an idea of what they have. The staff and everybody that I met were very professional and very pleasant. It would be a good place to go, but it was a bit more expensive by comparison to other facilities. The facility itself would be a good 4 or 5 stars. They have some older buildings and some newer buildings. I think some of the newer buildings would be much more pleasant. Everything is very easily managed. The hallways were all large, and there were plenty of rooms for several people to move through easily, especially if they have walkers. "

"We found Carmel Hills for Mom. It has been a very good experience, primarily because I am now close enough to visit her every day. They are able, with the hoyer lift, to get her out of bed and into a geri chair, so she isn't just lying around the bed all day. They have worked with us to try to figure out what is best suited for her in this setting and this situation. We've needed to puree her food, and they're willing to work with us. I've been very pleased. She seems to be settling in and the staff has worked hard to try to learn how to pronounce her name, so she can respond to the correct pronunciation, and I appreciate that. Carmel Hills is an older facility, and the part of the facility that she's currently in is more of the hospital style facility with a nurse's desk. There are three halls that are pretty short, and they don't have a lot of people there. She has a roommate, and her room looks somewhat like a hospital room, but they have a bathroom to themselves. You can decorate it, and I've been really impressed with how some people have decorated theirs. She moved from memory care to this facility, which is not all memory care, but it is for people who need 24/7 care, so it's still a locked facility. She has to have assistance with everything. There's a number of people in the facility who are still ambulatory and active, and so I will see them in the gathering room, and they're doing some activities. The activity person actually goes into Mom's room and sets aside time to try to engage her to do some hand exercises. Mom is in the end stages of Alzheimer's, and sometimes she is nonresponsive at all, and that person always plays music to Mom. They work so hard to try to figure out what will work for her. I've fed her a number of times myself and the food looked pretty good to me. They're in the process of renovating right now. I have seen her engage with the rest of the community. The pricing compared to others is very good. We could not have put her in the place if they did not have the current price that they have. Compared to everybody else in the community, they're at least $3,000 cheaper."
