Assisted Living Communities in Rock Hill, SC

"The Blake at Baxter Village was very cosmopolitan, very sophisticated, and a little upper level. It was very nice, clean, and new. It had a lot of amenities, but it was definitely more expensive than others. The staff was great. The space was nice. I didn't get to meet much of the staff though. We only met the sales director and maybe one CNA. The sales director was friendly; she's great. It was like a hotel lobby and it's very nice. It kind of had a different feel, not near as downhome friendly. It's more of an upper class type of assisted living and more intellectual based. They had a theater, a workout room, and a little craft room."

"My friend has been at Sunflower Springs at Indian Land. I think it's an amazing community. It has been a godsend. It's in assisted living, but it's more like a family. The people that are living there have issues and things of that nature, and they help them with whatever they need done. It's more of a nursing home, yet it's not. They have their own lives, and they can do whatever they want to do and go wherever they want to go. It's just an amazing place. They go over and above what they have to do. Everyone just works together, and it's just a beautiful community. I've never been around in assisted living before, but this is the top. Even when you walk in the place it's a sunny and happy place. My friend is one who is very particular about her food, and everywhere she goes she says, "I hate the food," but she really likes the food there. It's a brand-new building. They have different activities that go on throughout the week. On Saturdays and Sundays families can come and visit the residents. They also have people that come in and sing. When they need to go to the doctor's office they take them to the doctor or whatever appointments that they have. It really takes the burden off of me because she's in a wheelchair."

"My father has moved into The Blake at Edgewater. I like the large rooms, the already set plans of activities for the residents that are there, the care that they get, and the security that's around the place, having to get in and out of the building. There's a great physical therapist that's helping my father get back on his feet, to hopefully get back on to a walker, and not having to be in a wheelchair. They encourage him to do things and he's getting things done where I couldn't, so that's been fabulous. They have a lot of family activities, too, and I've been to a couple. We had hamburgers one night, and there was a derby party for the Kentucky Derby and some other things. They try to get the family involved as well. The food is good, and Dad likes it. He loves breakfast. He loves the choices. You have a menu each day, so you can kind of pick and choose what you want and if you don't like any of it, you can always get a hotdog or a hamburger or chicken salad or just a salad. They give you lots of choices. They had little desserts that were fabulous. The facility is very nice. There's a lot of stuff going on every day. They have outings that you can go on and they plan events like whoever's birthday month it is, celebrity or whatever. They'll plan the entire month around that particular person. It's Jimmy Buffett month this month, so Cheeseburger in Paradise, and they had the place decorated up and all that sort of good stuff. Value for money is fair."

"We have chosen Spring Arbor of Steele Creek, and it was for assisted living. It's for both my parents, so they needed to have a suite-apartment style option, and they have that available there. The staff was very friendly. The facility itself was bright and sunny. The rooms were bright and funny, too. They had several activities and opportunities for my parents to socialize and meet other neighbors that are there in the community. It was in a lovely, suburban type setting. It was also very close to major medical facilities. My parents could easily get to doctors' appointments, and dental appointments, and things like that, which would accept their medical supplementary insurance. So that was also really an advantage. They had a hair salon, a media room, and a library. Each floor was set up where there were places for people to sit down and have conversations. They have sofas, club chairs, tables, and stuff so that you could mingle throughout your day. Their kitchen area was like a multi-purpose area for larger group events. I like the fact that every day they had something planned that my parents would enjoy, whether it was Bible study, arts and crafts, or movies and things like that, so there was a variety of options throughout the week. They also had the opportunity to go out to eat or go on planned excursions for the community. So that also factored into my decision."

"My cousin will be moving into The Meridian at Carolina Lakes. It is very new, very upscale, and very bright. It looks more like a hotel instead of an assisted living facility. It's got a pool 24/7. It is very, very nice, and it's way cheaper. It's close to me, that's why I picked it. The staff was very helpful and very friendly, yet professional. They were very caring. They took their time. They invited us to have lunch to check out the food. The chef came out and introduced herself to us, and we hadn't even signed in yet. The service was exceptional, and it was a very pleasant experience. The food was excellent. The rooms are beautiful, white, bright, and have a little bit of a kitchenette with a microwave. They even have a washing machine in the room and a little refrigerator. They were very nice and very spacious. They have a bathroom and a closet."

"We toured Spring Oak York, and the staff was incredible and attentive. Mom insulted them the whole time, and they were just very nice. They called back several times and felt she was a good fit for the community. They were very good. The place they took us was newly renovated. The rooms were small but exceptionally clean."

"At the time, they told me the shortest respite care they offer is 30 days and I was looking for something shorter than that. It was a very nice facility and people seemed to be very active as I went through both areas of assisted and memory and people seemed to be engaged. However, when I visited a room that they had opened, it was unoccupied at the time, I thought it was very dismal. I know that people don't stay there in that room during the day, but it was very small. It probably would only accommodate a single bed and maybe one piece of furniture and a chair. I was not impressed with the size. It was less than 10 x 10. The staff during the tour was very nice. She was new, so she had to get back to me with a couple of questions that I had posed although she was very accommodating and the intake person was very, very nice. I only was in contact with two people. When they got back to me and told me that it would be a 30-day minimum, I didn't pursue it any further."

"Sunflower Springs of Lake Wylie was very nice. The people seemed very nice when we were talking to them initially. They told us that they could follow my mom's renal diet, that they would make sure that all her medication got administered, and that if we wanted to take her out for the day, they would get her medication ready. It was no problem, all that kind of stuff. My mom was there for just under a month. However, they did not get the last of her medication in until about two days before we took her out, so she wasn't taking some of her medications for the entire time. They also yelled at my sister when she came to pick my mom up because they didn't want to have to get her medication ready. That happened a couple of times, actually, even though we called and gave them a couple of hours' notice. The chef came out and told my mom that he absolutely could not follow her renal diet, so she just needed to eat what was put in front of her. Due to that, we took her out. Her renal issues got a lot worse. She was not being bathed like she was supposed to. The entire time she was there, they came, I think, one time to help her take a bath, and she ended up with an antibiotic-resistant UTI, which is why we ended up taking her out. My mom got a temporary room that was pre-furnished. It looked more like a hotel than a senior community, like most of them we looked at. The whole facility is very well taken care of because it's brand new. Most of the people who worked there were nice enough, but they just could not deliver what they had promised. For activities, as far as I can tell, they do outings once a week. Mom never really got to participate in any of those, but they do them on a lottery system. So you sign up, and then they draw names because they can only take so many people. The facility is behind a grocery store. It's not a terrible location. It's pretty easy to get in and out of. I know that emergency response time is pretty quick because the day that we toured, somebody burnt popcorn in their microwave, so the fire department came. It was not a big deal, but they got there really quickly. So that was actually a plus. They have a couple of sitting areas on each floor where they can go and sit and watch TV as a community. They have a salon, and I think once a week, somebody comes in and does hair. They have a game room/library area. My mom didn't really spend time on any of those, but I saw them on the tour. They also had a couple of balconies that were kind of the community seating areas upstairs that they could go out to."

"I liked CoHomes Boutique Senior Living. My mom was there for respite care and it was a good experience. The community was great. I liked the staff. They washed and folded her clothes. She had a large room with twin beds and a nice closet. They had cameras in, so I felt safe having my mom there. They had activities such as painting and playing games. They talked to her and engaged her, which was what she needed, and the place was clean. The dining room was nice. If I ever wanted to to put her in a senior building permanently, I would want her to go there. It was a great value for my money."

"It was very nice. The room was very nice, very bright, and it seemed bigger than some of the other ones. It was a smaller community, not as many residents, but the age of the population was older than what we were looking for. My husband is only 53, so we were looking for something that had some people that were either in their 50's or early 60's. It just wasn't the right fit for us. It had a very good feel; it seemed that everybody there enjoyed being there and working there. The day that we visited, they were having staff appreciation, and they had a red-carpet theme, so they had the red-carpet and snacks -- just kind of a lot going on. You are like pleasantly surprised from what the outside looks like when you go in. The inside is just totally different than what you see; "you can't read a book by its cover" is the best way to describe this one. It was lovely inside, and the people were lovely. "

"I am moving into The Pines on Carmel. I liked that it was open and airy with lots of windows and lots of lights. They had several outdoor spaces. They had several different sizes of apartments and I had to bring my own appliances. The staff that I met was very good."

"My mom moved into Brookdale South Charlotte. At first, she was very upset that she was there because she doesn't like being away from home, but she seems to be adjusting well. We've been very impressed with the staff there. They have all been very willing to answer our questions and take our calls because we've called a lot to check on my mom. We got to see her sitting there talking to people and laughing, so it was a good experience. My mom's room is fantastic. She got one of those rooms that are much larger than the regular room. The facility looks fantastic. You can tell it's been recently renovated and updated. They said my mom is eating, so the food must not be too bad, or she wouldn't eat. The dining area is very open with small tables for small groups. It had a homey feel. They have six activities every day, and they transition those around."

"This place is fantastic. Very homey with an excellent staff. My father spent his last few months of life at The Post and we could not have been happier with his care and comfort there. Music plays a lot. All of the residents have their own recliners in the family room. A chef brings in meals every day so it always smells amazing at The Post. The staff loves the residents and they very much enjoy family and friends coming to visit. The rooms are large and very comfortable. I am so grateful that we found The Post and that my dad was able to be in such an amazing environment at the end. After he passed away, I stopped by to bring some flowers and visit with the staff/residents whom I came to love with my regular visits. The Post is unmatched to any place else we visited while searching for the perfect place for my sweet dad. "
