"We liked pretty much everything about our tour of The Blake at Baxter Village. We like the way it looks, the program, the atmosphere, the age of the people, and the services that they offer. It seems to be a well-run place, and a well-put together place. It will serve my mother and what her needs are now. I was able to meet with the director who was very thorough on what she did. From what I viewed and saw, the facility had a lot of things that they could offer the people. I also looked in the room, they had a salon, they had a courtyard, an art room, and a movie theater."

"The overall community of Shads Landing looked really nice. It was friendly and warm, and the staff seemed like they were all caring people. A couple of my family members went with me, and we had a delicious meal there, and we also were entertained by a community of people who had come in and were booked for entertainment. It's a great place, and I'd certainly recommend it. They have a regular schedule of activities that is set up every month. As a matter of fact, I have a communication here in front of me, and it shows for the month of March -- which was when I went to visit -- that there are everyday activities from morning until early evening. Every Monday, they have different things: Hooks and Needles which is one group, sing-along, and another group, Count Your Blessings. And they have bingo every evening on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from the calendar here. They are interspersed throughout the month with different things. They have card games and bowling; you can name it, and you are going to see something on the calendar of activities for the people. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was definitely caring, not only for its residents, but for us visitors as we came in, and they afforded us all the amenities that were occurring during that day that we could participate in. It was just a wonderful place. "

"We toured Chandler Place Independent Living in Rock Hill, and it was absolutely beautiful. We were looking for a place for my mother-in-law, and we toured many places, and this was the best we've ever toured. They offered everything, including shuttle service to her doctor's appointment, and that was a big deal for us. They also would take the residents to the movies, there was a hair place to get her hair done in the facility, and they offered everything there, so it was nice. We only met one representative, but he was amazing and did very well. He was great. He explained everything in detail, answered all of our questions, and even called me after our tour. I told him that my mom couldn't afford it, and he was very understanding and said they'll be ready for her if anything changes. Even the follow-up was very professional and friendly. I have nothing bad to say about the facility. It was very clean, and they even had a little coffee area with seating where you could make your own coffee and espresso. The dining area was laid out very nicely with nice lighting and tons of windows. It was just very welcoming there, and it didn't smell, which is a big deal to me. I don't want to walk in, and it smells like a lot of these places. I'm very particular about that, and it wasn't like that at all, there. It's a place that I would put my mom in."

"We toured Matthews Glen yesterday. Outstanding. It was very impressive. if you're active, there are all kinds of things to do, all kinds of clubs. It has expanded and they're doing even more expansion. So one half of the campus is a little older, but the other parts of the campus are brand new, and they're gorgeous. The apartments look like something out of Southern Living magazine. They're just very attractive and very well done. This is also one with the bigger ticket buying, where you're paying for your health care when you come into the community. But they have three different tiers of pricing there. One is if you want to get some of that money back for your heirs, you can do that if you don't want any of it back you can. And they also have a program for people with long-term care insurance that has a much significantly lower buy-in price. So that is also attractive. It's a great place. There is a much wider selection of floor plans there as well. They have several pools. There's an indoor pool, there are outdoor heated pools. There are chlorinated pools and saltwater pools. They have physical fitness staff there in the rooms to help you develop a program. The staff, a young man, but importantly, he seemed to know everybody that lived in the place, which I think is fantastic. I think they had something like 800 residents in that one, something to that effect. But he was just saying hi, on a first name basis. The staff was tremendously helpful and friendly."

"I've put a deposit down for Windsor Run to hold an apartment for me: a two-bedroom unit, but I did not go the third step, where you deposit 10% of the cost of the unit. It's a beautiful facility. The sales force and the chefs are top-notch. I ate there several times, and the food was delicious. It was just the affordability. At this time, I do not want to put a good portion of my available cash into a unit. I would like to save part of that to travel and so on until I need senior living. Then I would definitely consider going back to Windsor Run to check out their prices. The staff was very knowledgeable, very professional, and very informative. There was no pressure from them. It's very clean and well-maintained. There are new sections being built at this time. They have long hallways going to elevators."

"The gal that met me at the door could not possibly have been any nicer. She was just a really pleasant person, and it really means a lot. The place was very clean. Of course it's brand new, but it was lovely, just lovely. I haven't had a meal there yet, although, one of the people that lives there came over to talk to us, and he did invite me to come for dinner some night. He would love for me to meet his wife and his grandchildren. Just very, very nice people. They have a movie room. They had a fully furnished kitchen, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, and just everything you would need in a kitchen. It was beautiful, and the windows were gorgeous. They let in so much sunlight. It's very nice."

"We liked Carmel Hills. It was a big and busy place. However, we didn't want to be tied into their three-meal a day plan. "

"Our experience here has been wonderful. The staff is so friendly and caring. They respond when my father needs something right away and will talk with him. The owner Daniel is very nice and is at the home every day. Communication is great here. Very knowledgeable. Beautiful home and is clean and inviting. We have seen my father completely flourish at this home. The food is wonderful. This has been just an amazing experience and we would recommend this home to anyone. Highly recommend for a loved one who is looking for excellent care. "

"The one that I visited was called Waltonwood at Providence. It was a brand new and a lovely facility. Everything was very nice. However, I do not think they had any availability right now. I thought they filed up early. It was convenient to my house, and I had gone to see them with the idea perhaps of placing my father there. I saw the rooms, the amenities, the dining hall area, and the courtyard, and they were very nice. The director was very engaging and helpful. The place was very nice and clean. If I was going to place my dad there, and if I could afford it, I would probably do it. "

"Overture Cotswold 55+ Apartment Homes was gorgeous, high-class living. The girl who gave us the tour was very helpful and tried to answer all our questions. She still emails me to see if I would like to move in. All they served was continental breakfast. You're basically on your own there. There's a pool, a fantastic theater, and a nice library."

"My mother has moved into White Oak Manor - Charlotte. The cost was a big plus for us and amenities. They have meals, salons, and a full kitchen. She's in a one-bedroom."

"After one year of visiting senior living facilities in the Charlotte area, I chose The Barclay at SouthPark. Why? *It is fresh, modern, and welcoming. *Everything, such as dining, exercise, swimming, spa, creative rooms, and parking is all under one roof which is so convenient especially during bad weather. *The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. My move to The Barclay was seamless. *There is valet service, 24/7 concierge and security service. I feel so safe! *Food service for lunch and dinner is exceptional and wait staff are well trained. *Above all, is the sense of community you have among the residents. For me, that was just what I needed since becoming a widow...to feel a sense of belonging, to wake up each morning and exit your apartment greeting one another, dining with each other during mealtime, having a glass of wine in the evening with one another, enjoying activities like karaoke, dancing at a party to a DJ, donating to a special fund raiser for the employees and cheering them as they receive their gifts, wrapping gifts for charitable organizations, and so on. In other words, it is like FAMILY. You choose to participate in areas that interest you. *It is independent, senior living here at The Barclay, but I call it FREEDOM LIVING. You are free from ownership, from stuff, from maintenance, cooking, cleaning, and planning. It is all done for you! There used to be a stigma on senior living; "that you go there to die." "My wife and I have applied for a cottage at The Cypress of Charlotte's independent living. We have friends there and we have visited several times. They have standalone cottages, which is what we want. They have about 4 different floor plans but the cottage floor plan which they have the most of is exactly what we want. It's about 2,000 square feet. They have a pool and all kinds of amenities too. We have had a couple of meals there and their food is excellent. It's like a 5-star restaurant."
