"Holiday Willow Grove was beautiful inside. The folks there were great. They're very welcoming. If we could put it together, my brother would have been there right now. I looked at two efficiency rooms, and they were very nice and very roomy to be efficiency rooms. This place was extremely nice. The outside was extremely nice and well-kept. I would like to live there myself."

"I went to see The Senior Villages in Charlotte. I arrived to enter the gates, but there was no one to answer the phone to let me in. I tried to get there early. One of the tenants drove up, and I followed him. I got to the door of the office, and they said that they didn't open till 1 o'clock. I guess that's a plus that anybody can't just walk in. The maintenance worker showed me an apartment, and he said that they didn't know about an appointment. I toured the independent living, and the apartment that he took me in was a 1-bedroom. It had a kitchen, a living room, one bathroom, and a balcony. It seemed to be a clean place. It had appliances and was carpeted all the way through. The staff who showed me around had a good attitude. I would imagine the place is at least 50 years old. It wouldn't be brand new, but they get maintenance to keep it up and keep the grass cut. It's close to grocery stores, hospitals, and schools."

"The one I liked the most was the Brookdale Carriage Club Providence. Eva, the girl that showed us around, was so nice and wanted to try to fit the place to us, as to what we're looking for. It's a large place, and it covers all types of care. You can go in as an independent, and then if you need help, you can switch over and get assisted living right in the same place. Then, if you need memory care, they also have that available. That appealed to me because as you get older, you change, and I wouldn't want to move again. It had everything you could want. They have at least three meals a day, and on Sunday, they give you brunch. I didn't taste their food. I was invited back to taste it, but I never got back because of my fall. They were generous-sized and well-appointed rooms. They had a full kitchen with a stove, a microwave, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer. It had everything. It was spotless and very well done."

"I will move into Inspire Royal Park. It's a top-rated facility. I like the community, where it's located, and the staff is very nice. Their rooms were very nice. It was great. They have everything I would be looking for."

"My father moved to Providence Meadows Gracious Retirement Living. We chose that for him because I felt like I was walking into a resort. He has a one bedroom, a separate living room, an outdoor porch off his living room, a kitchenette area, ample closet space (three closets), and a huge bathroom. They have so many programs such as outings. The dining room is just absolutely gorgeous. They have a library, a theater, a chapel, a workout room, and gardens everywhere. There are all kinds of games and all kinds of different activities. The food is very good. I can eat for free in the dining room with my father. The facility is extremely clean. It's almost like walking through a museum at times with just the incredible artwork and everything. You get more bang for your buck there. When you consider everything, especially the type of unit that my father is in (he's not in a studio, he's in a one-bedroom), we're paying a little extra for him to have that one-bedroom, but we want to do that and I think it's well worth the money."

"I moved into Solista Charlotte by Cogir. What I like about it is that I have an independent apartment. It has a kitchen, so I can fix my meals if I want to, but meals are provided three times a day. They have exercise and activities, as well as mind-stimulating activities like a book club and speakers who come in. It's well balanced in terms of life, and then they can belong to different games like bridge. There are some other games that people like to play, like checkers and chess, and they have a courtyard."

"My parents will be moving into Belvedere at Berewick. I chose this community for my parents because it was brand new and the apartments were spacious. I like the amenities they have for the seniors and the activities they do. Like they do meet and greets for the residents and then they play games and things with them. The staff member who gave us the tour really did a good job of showing us everything and making sure we understood everything. Since the place is brand new, it's appearance is superb, and everything is immaculate. We were told that they have activities for the residents like bingo, meet and greets to get to know your neighbors, and things like that."

"Gardens of Statesville & Cardinal Village had comparable amenities and activities with the other place. We liked the big private dining room for families if you want to have a family get-together. I like the big lobby when you walk into the building with the piano and the entertainment area. They were under renovation, so you had to have a little bit of imagination about what it was going to look like when they got finished, but that didn't bother me. I think Mom would have done fine there, but the other place was less expensive and quicker to get into. They had the same kind of amenities and services that the other place does. And for memory care, they had a separate facility for activities. Their dining area was very good, too."

"I lived in The Dorchester and Manor Independent Senior Living. The community was very nice, and we had lots of activities, because they had an excellent activity director, so there was stuff going on all the time. I had a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment and it was wonderful. It had a very nice balcony and it was on the third floor, but there was an elevator. I had to take my dog down on the elevator, but that was fine. They had meals every night that you could sign up for. The dining room was very nice, and they would have a special lunch every month. I signed up for that most of the time, and it was always good. I left because it was supposed to be a non-smoking community and a lady moved into the apartment below me. She smoked and I could smell it in my apartment. Also, the price was reasonable, but the rent was going up, and I found a place that was quite cheap. Additionally, the maintenance was good when I moved in, but it slacked off once their best guy left."

"What I liked about Brooke Pointe Manor Apartments was that it's very secure. You can't just walk in. You have to have a code to get in. I also liked that it's very affordable. The lady that showed me the apartment, Beth, was very nice and very knowledgeable. She showed me the one that I would get if I qualified for it. It's a one-bedroom and one bath unit with a living room and kitchen. They have a laundry facility, a community room on each floor with a TV (if you want to get together with people to watch a movie or something), as well as hookups in each apartment for your own washer-dryer if you don't want to use the laundry facility. It's very clean. They have a nice area in the lobby where you can visit if you don't want to go up to your apartment."

"I've been at Taylor Glen for over ten years now. We have a hundred acres, and it's beautifully landscaped. It has an indoor pool, a library, and a post office. We have a bank even that comes one day a week. We have a dining room and then a cafe. We have entertainment that comes in. We have also assisted living, a memory care and even total health care at the other end of the campus, but it's all connected. It's all within the same building. We don't have to go outside to go to those. The biggest minus and it's probably true everywhere, they've had trouble keeping enough employees to take care of everything. Other than that, I feel like we're sort of one big family. People are very friendly and we make good friends. We enjoy eating with different people at dinner. We've just finally got enough housekeepers. They clean the bathrooms and kitchen and just lightly go over the rest of the apartment, but at least they come every week and they finally have enough help there. We had maintenance coming over the last few days. We've had our air-conditioning unit went out. They just hired a new chef and a sous-chef, and they're doing a very nice job. I think we're having more help than we had before. The person that's over the whole independent living here just moved up from another position and she's very personable and tries her best to do things that need correcting. We're very happy to have her. They are getting ready to build probably through the next year some villas and independent houses. They have something brand new for memory. My biggest concern with these people coming in more than the space for them to come down and have all the same things we have now would be enough help to take care of these new people. There's a lot of staff that are really good, but some that are not as good. The management staff is a five-star. The new manager is really trying her best to turn things around. I'm on the food committee and they list things of what we have to say to improve. The food could be a little better but it's much better than it has been in the past. My blood work has been very good and I used to have high cholesterol and my blood pressure fluctuates and all that has improved in the last year. I feel like our food has gotten much better than it was. I'm pretty pleased with it now. You can have your own garden. We have a woodworking shop and crafts rooms. We have an auditorium and a chapel. There's a lot of good things in the facility here. We have a washer and dryer in our room. We don't have to go down the hall to do our clothes and that's a big plus to me. We have quite a few people that come and some that they pay and some that volunteer. They have crafts that they make things for the people down in healthcare. They have a van where they take people out once a week to shop at the grocery store and out eating. They go get apples or take strawberries or just a good variety of things they do on those outings. This is like a buy-in thing. You pay big bucks upfront, but then you sign a contract with them and they agree to take care of you until you die whether you run out of money or not. To me, it's pretty expensive, but in today's value, seeing other facilities like this, we're probably right in line there or maybe less than some."

"I liked them a lot. It was really beautiful. They do stuff together like a family. They have cookouts together, potlucks, and they do breakfasts. They have a pool table, a weight room, and a swimming pool. The apartments were nice. I loved it. They got a kitchenette, a garage, a nice living room area, a kitchen area, and a big walk-in closet."
