"I looked at Heritage Greens for my aunt. It was a beautiful place. I loved the tour. The young lady was wonderful. However, it was just a little bit out of our league as far as the monthly fees. The rooms were beautiful. They were gorgeous. Everything was beautiful. They were having some type of event in the dining area, but the facility was just gorgeous."

"Carolina Pines Retirement Community is a new facility. It's very nice, and it's not very far from my house. I've gone to their seminars. They had just opened before the end of the year. From what I have heard from a couple of people that I know who live there, they're very happy with it. The food is good, too. I got a bulletin from them last week about the activities they will be doing for the month of August, which is very good. They get lots of entertainment. I like it because it's in the community where I live now. I can get to that location in less than 10 minutes. They have an exercise room. They don't have a swimming pool or a tennis court. They don't have those, but inside, they have an exercise room, a theater, a lounge, a room for art activities, and a beauty shop. They don't have garages, so if your car is not used to sleeping outside, it has to get used to it because there's no garage. With regard to upkeep, it's clean, well-kept, and bright. At the seminars, the food has been very good. They have very good chefs who are working there. If I had to choose between three places in North Carolina, one would be Carolina Pines. I will go there because it's still in my community, and I could keep my routine like the hospital and doctors. Everything is right here."

"Carolina Estates was a very nice and very clean community. The staff showed a great deal of interest in having me come to live there. They had a nicely staffed library. The dining facility was very nice. The food appeared to be very good. It had a walking trail. The area looked very comfortable."

"Harmony at Greensboro was a big facility. I was able to visit their memory care unit and everything was clean. Everybody seemed very friendly, outgoing, very welcoming, and very knowledgeable about what their jobs were. At that point in time, we were just looking for the square footage and kind of looking to see what would be available. We also were checking in, as far as the amount of turnover that they have, and they were very accommodating for that. I looked at the menu and I was there between the breakfast and the lunch. I was able to see when breakfast was being picked up and then lunch was being set down. I liked that they have a good variety and you get to order. So, you had a choice. They had a pipe burst and they were currently in a construction piece where they were cordoning off certain sections. So, it seemed like it was an active cleanup zone. The facility was just a little too big for what we needed. I felt like maybe a little more of their attention was spent on the assisted living section and not as much on memory care."

"Arbor Acres was beautiful. They had all kinds of imaginative activities for people, the staff was very courteous and nice. The people seemed positive that they lived there, and all the facilities were clean and nice. They have pickleball, they have a musician that does concerts for them, and they go together to different places in Winston-Salem. I got to see one or two apartments that were being renovated, but they still look great."

"I'm currently in Heritage Woods. With COVID, they are not doing anything, so it's really kind of an unfair time to be giving a survey on them, but I think they have done an excellent job. They have thought of ways to accommodate meals without gathering people together, and they are doing little activities and going door-to-door just to have some kind of social interaction with somebody rather than gathering folks together. Those were the kinds of things that I think they have done a good job of doing, coming up with different ways to make sure that people are getting some kind of social connection, but not having groups together. With COVID going on, I think they are doing as good a job as they possibly can. The cleanliness is excellent, and the upkeep seems very good. I have only been here four or five days, and I have been in the apartment most of the time, trying to get unpacked and such, so I haven't really been out and about very much. It's an older building, but it has been remodeled and been kept up to date."

"Homestead Hills has done a good job in taking care of their patients. The rooms appeared to be clean and well-kept. Their assisted living unit has been turned over; it is above any average that you could ever find. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend that facility. "

"My tour at Salemtowne was good and very pleasant. The people who took me around were good. The rooms were a little bit larger and had kitchens. They were also modern. They had bridge, quilting, movies, gym, and a pool."

"My mother lived at BV for a little over two years until she passed away. I ate dinner and/or lunch with her several times a month and the food was above-average. The common areas were always cleans, the staff was very nice. They offer a lot of activites although my Mom didn't take advantage of much, likely because my sister and I occupied her time. My Mom did make many new friends and was very happy living at BV. "

"I toured River Landing at Sandy Ridge. I like the attitude of the people that were there, both the residents and the staff. They were so positive in their attitude. The staff were very cordial and knowledgeable. We tried the food. It was very good and very tasty. They have an art room, have a music program, and have a workshop. It was very accessible to the interstate."

"I'm supposed to move into Providence Place Westchester Village. I like the general manager there. She was very energetic, and she's a pastor. I was very enthused about going because everybody was doing stuff. I could take my work with me because I work at home anyway, but if I don't, I think I'll have plenty to do there. The rooms were very large, and compared to everybody else, they were better priced. The room they showed me was beautiful. It had hardwood floors. The one I looked at has two bedrooms and a living room, which includes a room for a dining table. It had lots of closets and a kitchen with appliances. The staff I met were very friendly and upbeat. They were very good. They were super and very nice. The place was very clean, I was impressed."

"My daughter and I visited Pennybyrn in High Point and toured their memory care for my wife. The place was very well organized. Unfortunately during the tour, I did not have my hearing aids, so my daughter did most of the conversation with the lady who took us around and we were quite impressed with the facility. The information they gave us was all very positive, and the people we met while we were there were very friendly, including the residents. I felt like if the residents acted like they were happy, it would be a good place to be, and they sure were very pleasant. They spoke to us as we went by them or as they went past us as we were making the tour. It just seemed like a very friendly place. They have beauty care, I guess you call it that, and a dentist who comes in regularly. They seem to have everything a resident needs. However, we did not hear back from them for an extended period and we were trying to get my wife into a facility because she needed to be in a place where people could take better care of her than I could. The staff member who was with us during that tour was very good and accommodating. The only downside is that she didn't get back in touch with us. Some of that may have been that it was over the Christmas holidays and she may have been out of the office."

"My wife's 95-year-old mother is a resident at Countryside Manor and. likes it very much. The staff take excellent care of her. And they are knowledgeable, experienced, and very friendly. Also we ate lunch with her yesterday and I thought the food was excellent. In particular I had the tuna fish salad sandwich and it was out of this world. As good a sandwich as you could find ..anywhere in Guilford County. The office staff are well trained, friendly and eager to help visitors and family whenever there is a question. In particular the lady in the accounting office does a superb job of answering any questions that we might have from time to time. We've also met with the director a time or two and she also is an outstanding executive. We highly recommend Countryside Manor. It is a well run, very clean, very caring facility. -Tom "
