"What I like about Village at Brookwood is that it's a small place and once you are in there, you can go to different stages with where your health takes you. It’s a beautiful facility. I also like the small-town feeling. They had us over for dinner one night with two of the ladies that live over there, and they have wonderful food. The ladies were very nice too and very interesting to talk to. They have all kinds of activities, like they have yoga classes, they take people to concerts or if there is something special going on, they arrange that and they take them by bus. It is very, very well organized. The apartment that I am interested in is a one bedroom apartment and it is large. It's very, very well planned. "

"I liked Alamance House a lot. It was all in one building. When you first go in, one side was for assisted living and then the other side was for memory care. It was really clean and nice. I liked it. I liked the way it was laid out and the dining rooms looked nice. We looked at two different rooms, one semi-private (which was two separate rooms but it was the same bathroom) and then the companion suite (which was two people in a room, there's a partition in between the wall and they have the same bathroom). It's smaller but it was nice. They were having a meeting right then when we went in, but they had another lady to take us through and let us see everything. They knew the people and they were out of their room in the park. They have a place outback where they accompany you out there. They could grow flowers or have a little raised bed in there for vegetables or just something to do."

"We chose Blakey Hall for my mother-in-law. Her room there was clean and has plenty of room. The dining area was nice and seems to serve good food. The staff is very helpful, nice and professional. The value for the money is as good as the rest of them, they're all costly anyway so it's okay. The place is well-kept and clean."

"My mother is still at Twin Lakes Community. It is excellent. Moving into assisted living, they have a brand-new facility, which is beautiful, very accessible, spacious, airy, and enjoyable to be in. The staff are very personable and very caring. Whatever is requested, it tends to be done almost immediately. They're on the spot, they're there to care and they show it. They have a cafeteria style, and the food has always been very good. It's onsite and only probably 40 yards away from where my mom lives. It's expensive there like anywhere when you're in assisted living. But at this point, because of the religious backing and of being a foundation-oriented organization, once you're in, you're in through all your life stages. They're more expensive than others. But once you run through the assets, you turn to Medicaid, and she's still there. She's on Medicaid and is receiving the same services as if she was paying the full amount. "

"My father has moved into Abbotswood at Irving Park. They have common areas that the residents typically hang out in. He has a private room. We met the head nurse, and we really felt comfortable with what they had to offer. The interaction with the staff is very good. They're very responsive. Whenever we visit him, which is always without notice to them, we've never seen anything that was out of the ordinary or something that we would frown upon. Everything is good. They have rooms where they do activities. They bring specialists in that would work on different motor skills. Sometimes they would go on outings in the community, maybe to a fast-food restaurant or something like that."

"I toured The Carillon. It was nice. They were very welcoming. The rooms were small, but she said they were all the same size. They just arrange them differently. Some areas in the room are bigger than others, but it was nice. I just didn't like the idea of not having a dining room and having to be in Greensboro. Jen was helpful, answered all my questions, was friendly, and gave me a great tour. Everything was great. I have no complaints whatsoever."

"We have picked Carol Woods for our parents, but they haven't moved in yet. It is up on the mountains. There are lots of good walking trails and paved walking paths through the woods. They have a waterfall, which is really neat and very relaxing. Everyone is super nice. They let you sample the menu, and they let you meet the chef and the dining staff. The food is really good. Also you can either choose between a cottage or an apartment. My parents like the cottage option. They have all kinds of exercise programs. They also have a pool, a weight room, and a couple of different workout rooms where they do aerobic classes that are geared toward seniors. They have really neat activities, and they have programs every night as far like concerts and orchestras. It is really nice. The grounds are immaculate, too."

"I'm on a waiting list at Azalea Estates Gracious Retirement Living. The tour went very well. It's a beautiful place. They have a lot of activities. They have a movie theater, billiards, shuffleboard, firepit, and trips to the town. They had just about everything you could want. I saw their menu, and it looked like they had great choices. Three meals a day plus snacks. The staff was wonderful."

We have up all of issues related to home maintenance, HOA dues, taxes, and utilities and gained peace of mind. We have so many friends now and have never enjoyed so much activity in our lives. "We like the quality of Cedars of Chapel Hill. The facility was large enough. We liked the larger size apartments. They have a theater, a chapel, and a banquet room. They have a lot of outside trips, and people come in and do shows or concerts. They have limited space for planning your vegetable garden and two ponds. They are going to have a bird area where you can do bird watching."

"I toured Well-Spring Retirement Community. It has everything you could want for all levels, and it is a large facility that would allow me to walk get my steps and get in shape. It has a gym. It has a swimming pool. It's hard to beat that. It was very clean. The cafeteria was very nice. It was very pleasant. Everybody there was pleasant and was very willing to talk and give me all the information I wanted."
