"It was the most beautiful place. I liked the grounds, the pond, and the people were nice. It was comfortable. The rooms were nice, but I wanted a little more privacy in the room where I was located. That's just the availability of what was open. It was nice and clean and everything, but where I would have been located, it was in the center of the village. They have a weight room with a treadmill and a couple of things. They had transportation and most of all, the people were just kind. The VA wasn't far away (I'm a veteran). It was a good living community. The staff was great. The facilities were very clean."

"My parents have moved into Bartlett Reserve. I chose them because of the availability. Their meal option is open from 7 to 7, as there are no specific dining hours. It's probably because they're a much smaller facility, and they can accommodate that, so that's kind of a plus. Their apartment is simply two bedrooms and a living area with a kitchenette. Everybody seems to be happy with the food. We were very pleased with the cleanliness and the quick response should my parents need anything in the apartment."

"I visited The Cambridge at Brier Creek. They are excellent. It was very high class and very nice. They're welcoming. The young lady who showed us around was just excellent and gave us all the time we needed. The building is a couple of years old, so basically it's new. The apartments have very nice touches to them, like wood floors and up-to-date appliances. It's nice, fresh, and light. They have amenities. They have an exercise person onsite every day, and they have health care. It's just very nice. They have movies and all kinds of things to do."

"My brother-in-law moved to Brier Pointe Retirement Community. It's fabulous. That's one thing I have seen in quite some time. The people are amazing. The room, the activities, everything you get. It is excellent. The staff was amazing. They are truly the best people. They've got movies, got dancing, and they've got Friday night parties. They have art and music, and they have a gym. They have walking clubs. You name it, you want it, they've got it. They provide three meals a day every day and the food is excellent."

"My aunt lived here for almost fifteen years. She started in a assisted-living apartment and enjoyed her independence and freedom to move around and personalize her apartment. She could attend art classes, her own meals, and socialize with other apartment dwellers. After about nine years, and a series of blackouts (quickly tended to by the superb staff), she moved to the nursing home unit. She still had an individual private room, but much more monitored care. This was a superb facility, that allows seniors to adapt into a new environment. My parents and I really struggled with the decision and finding a home for her, but we ultimately decided on Abbottswood, because it was a great combination of retirement and nursing facilities. They have an onsite pharmacy, doctors of all specialities and even buses offsite to Walmart and Rite-Aid. All around, Abbottswood is a great facility that I would definitely recommend! "

"Capital Oaks had everything that we would be interested in if we were ready to move at this time. They had a bank, a barber shop, a beauty shop, an exercise facility, and rooms for pets or specific floors for pets. They fed us lunch and it was delicious. We were able to talk to other residents. The staff is very nice, pleasant, and not pushy."

"Whispering Pines is a beautiful, new community, under two years old. The setting is really nice, sitting back in a wooded area. They have nice trails around the facility, outdoor gardens, and beautiful patio with a big fire pit that the residents can use. The staff there has been excellent, so friendly, and helpful. The building itself doesn’t look like a retirement community. It’s much more updated, and everybody that we’ve run in to say that they just love it there. These people are active, so there’s always some activity going on in the facility, like trips in and out all of the time. They have gaming rooms and activity rooms that are always filled up with people using them. The food is excellent; they have an excellent kitchen staff and an executive chef that takes real pride in what he does. The food has always been good since we’ve been around and my parents seem to love it. "

"Reserve at Mills Farm is clean. They're friendly. It's fairly new. Why we went ahead and put money down on a waiting list is because they have a lot to offer. They seem to go out of their way to try to work with us. There was somebody singing and giving them music. There's an exercise room and a dining room. Being on chemo, my immune system was kind of bad and I have difficulty eating in a dining room with a bunch of people masked off, the staff said, 'That's fine. We have a private dining room you can go to.' Any question I had, they worked with me. We talked with two people, and they were great. They bent backward to be helpful. The building is very modern. They have a very nice system for assisting living. It's in a square, and in the middle is a garden area. They have screened-in porches all way round when you look out into the center. You can sit out there, and it's very peaceful."

"My husband and I moved into Stoneridge Gracious Retirement Living. We're loving it because the place is very comfortable and beautiful. The staff is so friendly and helpful. And we have made many new friends here. The other residents were all very friendly. The meals are provided. There is entertainment. They have movies every day. They have people coming in for entertainment. Like they had a jazz band one time when we came to visit. There's art and ceramics. They have bingo and lots of things to do. There's only one negative and that is the elevator is very slow. But that's it. This is a fantastic place."

"We toured Woodland Terrace. We enjoyed that visit very well. The residents seemed to be very interactive and active in general. They were having some special activities that afternoon. They were dancing in one of the lounges. They asked my mother to dance if she wanted to. Overall, the atmosphere there was very warm and inviting. However, some of the buildings seemed a little dark. It is an older facility. They have a library, exercises, and a small theater. The afternoon that we were there, they had a saxophone player, and somebody was playing the piano, and they were playing in one of the lounges. They had a bistro area where they were having a happy hour. They have a really pretty pond out back. The staff were mostly friendly. The facility appeared clean. I didn't see anything alarming or smell anything for that matter. You can see dents where people's walkers or wheelchairs hit doors or walls. There was some wear and tear that needed some work. "

"We made an in-person visit at Brookdale North Raleigh. I was very impressed with the facility, the person that hosted us there was very knowledgeable, very accommodating, and they answered all of our questions. They have a swimming pool, and exercise area, and they have arts and crafts for them. They did have one room that they were doing some renovations on, there was construction activity going on, but that was a temporary situation. Other than that, it looked to be up to date well-kept, and well-maintained."

"Cambridge Village of Apex was bright and new, but it was in the middle of nowhere, and there wasn't any mature landscaping. The apartments were very well-appointed but smaller than the others. There was a group coming from the farmer's market, and they were planting things outside. There were people playing cards, and there were men talking in the library. However, my parents thought it was too big, and they did not have assisted living. The staff was awesome."

"My father, 92, has been a resident of the facility since March 2020 right before COVID restrictions were put in place. I found the staff very helpful in protecting the residents while providing a nice place to live. Dad is starting to meet residents and feeling more connected and he has enjoyed the food provided. The cook is exceptional and the community does have a great vibe. "

"Jordan Oaks was very clea, modern, and newer than the other place I visited. They had some kind of healthcare system where the people would wear something around their neck in their room that will alert the staff. It was an independent living facility, and you would have to buy the home healthcare services a la carte. They had laundry facilities. "

"I went to The Lodge at Wake Forest. I liked the location, it's good. It was a little bit less expensive than the others. The salesman there was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and willing to explain everything and encouraged me to start asking questions and things. I really like Ross. The facility was very clean and very nice. He gave me an activity sheet and I haven't looked at it yet, but several ladies there were playing."

"What I like the best about The Joyce is the location. What I like the least is the outside noise level because the freeway is right outside my window. And I don't like the fact that there are amenities that they say we're supposed to have that we do not have access to. The residents do not have access to the media room and the community lounge. It is limited to when we can use it. It's not open on the weekends. It's not open unless the office is open. It's not even ours. It's basically for management to have meetings. Their meetings take priority over the residents. They have board games. At Thanksgiving, they had dinner, and at Christmas, they had a dinner, but that's it. The rooms are nice, roomy, and comfortable, but the noise problem is the problem. We're right across the street from the freeway. There's no dining area. The only dining area would be the community room where you can go in and have coffee and tea, but we're limited as to if and when we can even go in the room. We're told that we are monitored and if we go in too often, then our access will be taken away. Parking is another issue as well."
