"Southern Pines basically had everything we wanted. It had cottages, a good location, and a lot of activities. Residents had the ability to visit other sites owned by Hawthorn so that you could travel and stay at no additional cost since you have already paid at your home location. They have other sites in quite a few places all over the country, so that is certainly attractive. We looked at lovely cottages. There was no problem bringing in our dogs. If we wanted to bring them, we could put up a fence."

"We like Carolina Highlands. The rooms are good and large. You have one bedroom to your right and then another one to your left. They have a place for storage, which we like. It was a very good place. Everything was good and spacious. The staff members were very friendly and nice. It was a beautiful place. They have checkers and puzzles. It looks like the residents looked satisfied with what they were doing. Everybody looked pleasant."

"Penick Village is a very nice, large community. They have several different living arrangements. They have independent living, assisted living, and full-time skilled nursing care. They got everything and more. We had lunch up there. The staff we met were very, very knowledgeable and very kind. The food was excellent."

"We live in a 1,600 sq foot apartment with a water balcony view. Our apartment is updated and modern. The staff here have become part of our family. These folks are caring and are delightful to be with daily. Food is wonderful and offers a grand verity. . We work out at the gym here with a trainer for residents. Educational programs are offered as well as musical programs. We have raised garden beds which offer gardening opportunities, book clubs flourish, Mahjong games are all over campus as well as bridge. Water walking and exercises are available to residents in a salt water pool with a jacuzzi. Painting classes are on campus. We also have a salon with a verity of services and a bank is on property. We had so blessed to be here. Naturally no place is perfect but you have to look pretty hard to find many problems here. PLUS the residents have made the move here so wonderful after living in our former community for 67 years. "

"We will be moving my mom to Pine Knoll within the month. I liked this community. All the employees were very friendly and it was a very welcoming facility. The room that I saw was very neat and clean, and we were happy with it. I liked their common areas. They had a sanctuary there that we liked, too. They had a library and it was nicely laid out with a couple of sitting areas. They also had outdoor spaces that allowed people to be able to walk the grounds. All of those things were very nice."
