"My uncle has been in Sanford Manor. He is doing well, and he seems to be adjusting to it pretty good. The facility is not new, but it seems nice. They're doing some renovations, and it is adequate for what they've got going on. He is in a section of a building where 35 residents can fit in, but they only have 17 for now. He's in a private room, but they also offer rooms where they have a roommate. They have an events coordinator there, but right now the activities have been really limited because of the whole COVID-19 protocols going on. They have an outdoor area where they can go and play bingo, and some stuff for them to do. It's fenced in, so they can't wander off or anything. They're not doing any trips for the moment, and they're not allowing visitors either, but they do let him call me everytime he wants to talk to me, and he actually calls me every day. They've done a very good job in getting him in quickly. It only took two days to get him accepted and moved in. Every time I call they answer my questions and help me anytime if I need anything. They also schedule him for some doctor's appointments, and they had some doctors come in and visit. It's just the facility is a little outdated, and it's a little dark, but I really think they're working on that. They got a real big cafeteria and a community room where they can sit and watch TV. They got his room scheduled for painting too, so I know they're making some upgrades, and changes to make the place nicer. I'm very satisfied with everything there so far. I haven't had the chance to try their food, but I looked at their menu, and they looked really good. My uncle hasn't complained about it, and he's known to be very picky when it comes to the food that he gets. He loves to eat shrimp, but they don't serve them, so I try to take him to shrimp dinner once a week or so. I know he's paying $3,600 a month for everything, and that seems like a really good value compared to the prices that we were getting from some other facilities."

"My father's oldest brother has always been a very active man and now that he is in his 80s he needed to find an assisted living facility where he could live life on his own terms. His only concession to the aging process was his mobility. Arthritis had robbed him of his vigor and freedom of movement, yet he prided himself on the fact that he could still do a lot of things on his own; he just needed some help with other tasks of daily life. Wynwood at Chapel Hill has provided him with a home and new life that he adores. We have visited monthly during the year that he has been a resident and we are so happy with his new living arrangement. He had just returned from a shopping trip to Trader's Joe when we made our last visit to see him. Of course he had to update us on the yoga classes that he is now taking. In fact this exercise program has even helped lessen the pain caused by his arthritis. Each day the seniors at Wynwood have a list of activities in which they can participate if they choose to do so. Meals are simply wonderful and the cooking staff always uses the freshest ingredients possible. In my opinion, these meals are better prepared and tastier than those dishes being served at a majority of local restaurants. I have eaten the grilled fish, roast chicken and perfectly cooked asparagus- and cannot say enough complimentary things about the talented chefs. These individuals can make low calorie, low salt recipes taste positively wonderful. My uncle has never been a fan of low sodium meals, but even he has now been won over by the healthy, tasty meals that he gets to enjoy each day. Kudos to this facility and each staff member! "

"Mebane Ridge is a wonderful community. The staff members are very caring. I ate there once with my mother, and it was very good. Sometimes my mother doesn't care for the food, but that's a matter of personal taste. I think with all things considered, it's very satisfactory and has a really good atmosphere. My mother is 101, so she doesn't participate in a lot of stuff, but there's plenty to do there. It's a very nice community. I would highly recommend it. The staff members are very caring and very friendly. It's a good place and convenient for me to visit her daily."

"At Carolina Reserve of Durham I was able to observe how the technicians and the other staff interacted with the clients that they had there, and I liked what I saw. The staff seems to be really friendly, more of a family type of atmosphere, and that's what I wanted for my sister. The area is kept clean. There were activities that were posted that I saw up on the wall. I also looked at the types of menus and things that were also on the wall in the dining area. I felt that this would be a good place for my sister. The admission coordinator is really helpful. I can talk to her and she lets me know everything like updates and what's happening with physical therapy and whether or not they've gotten orders for certain things, so I can call the provider and say to them they need X, Y, and Z. It's more of a three-way conversation so that my sister can get everything that she needs. They're really on top of things at this point for me, and I'm happy to alleviate a lot of the stress that I was going through or what-have-you. It's a good fit. The amenities are nice. No issues or anything like that. My sister has her own little area. She pretty much can get comfortable in that area. There is a library. There is a common area where there's a television set in there, and then sometimes they have activities in that room. They have the activity room, too. So far, my sister has participated in bingo. I know there's a musician coming in tonight. I know they offer her things or whatever. I get the report as far as what's going on with her because I'm very involved in her care. I'm really happy with the care that she is receiving. "

"My mother has been at Spring Arbor since August, and so far, it has been really nice. They have very good food. I don't have any complaints. They have a lot of activities for the people there. They give her more hands-on care and they make sure she gets her meals. It is clean and doesn't stink. It is something within her price range. I would recommend this place. "

"The one that really stood out to me was Atria Southpoint Walk. The staff was very nice. The rooms were a nice size with a fully equipped kitchen and had a lot of storage including walk-in closets. What I found that I liked best was that it was called either a village or cottage that has a garage, and the community fee was reasonable. The food was very good, and the menu was good. Anything that you want to do is there. They have transportation to various places, housekeeping with linen washing and personal laundry, and they also have the washer and dryer hook-up in each room, so you don't have go down the hall. When they clean the room every two weeks, I think the help changes your bed and washes your linen. It was just very nice. They don't actually provide the washer and dryer, they have the hookup and you could provide your own washer and dryer. They have a full-size kitchen, plus you get two meals a day, and they have a salad bar. They provide flexible transportation, a doctor that makes house calls, and a front desk staffed 24 hours a day. They didn't have a pool, but they said that they could arrange for water aerobics. "

"TerraBella Hillsborough had very polite people, and the place was very clean. Everybody was glad to help me no matter what I was doing in any way they could. They were easy to talk with. They responded to my questions and my phone calls right away. They could take care of my father's needs. The room I went to had a bed, a real nice shower, and a big closet. It was more like a studio. They got music, religious stuff, bingo, a library, and a big dining room where people can sit at the tables and eat. They help bring them in if they need help to be brought in. They had their amenities and activities all posted on the bulletin. They've been very helpful. They said if I had any problems, to please contact them. I didn't go over the whole area, but the part I saw was laid out well."

"I went to Brookdale MacArthur Park for my mother. Right now, it would be the first on our list because of its proximity to our house. We thought it was very nice. The people there were very nice. It seemed to be very nice. All the residents were very friendly. The scale of the community was very nice. It was not overwhelming. It was just like walking into your living room. It was really nice that way. It seemed like the food was OK. The residents were active, and friendly. They were very nicely invested in the residents. The room was fine for my mother. Everything was small. "

"Reserve at Mills Farm is a brand-new facility, but a little more homey. It's rustic. The grounds have a pond nearby. It's very close to facilities like grocery stores and Costco. It's only three levels, and they move from independent living to memory care as well. I really liked their memory care concept, which is like cabins. You share a common area in a cabin with five other people, but you have individual rooms, so your staff ratio is very small. They have at least two to one person per patient or resident in the memory care. I really liked the staff ratio. I liked the pod concept instead of individual rooms down a long hallway. You're in a circular cabin, and you just come out into a common area when you want to be out and have your meals and so forth. It has a cozier effect. What I liked about these pods is that they are ranch-style with gardens around them, so they give you a feeling of safety without realizing that you can't wander out of the area. It's almost like a little home. They had a hairdresser onsite. They had a pharmacy onsite, so you could transfer all of your medicines to their pharmacy, and everything could be done in-house. All of the staff members were very caring, nice, and accommodating. They had a big community dining hall and a very nicely furnished ground floor, so you could walk out onto the patio."

"We had a good and informative visit to Brookdale Burlington. The lady who showed us some of the building was very, very nice. She offered a lot of information, was so friendly with the residents, and made us all welcome even though we were just looking. It has a full bathroom, and the one that we looked at was the medium size, which had two closets, because it could be a two-person bedroom. It had pull strings to alert the staff if there was a problem. They have two of those in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. It also has its own heating and air-conditioning unit. It was very nice, clean, and freshly painted, and you can hang your own pictures."

"Sunrise of Cary was a larger facility. They seemed to have a lot more activities going on and I felt they had a wider range to offer to me because there were like 33 residents from memory care. Price-wise, they were about the same as the others. The person that gave the tour was very informative and very engaging in trying to provide a solution. They seemed to have more options on a room setup, but on the downside, they only had two small patio areas."

"TerraBella Asheboro was beautiful and very clean. They were friendly, very informative, and compassionate because some of them had gone through the same thing. I got to meet the people who were staying there and they were very happy. The rooms were decorated nicely. Each person could decorate however they wanted their room to be decorated. It was very nice and clean. I loved the way the bathroom was set up. Each person has their own bathroom, which is nice. It gives them more privacy. I liked that, and the fact that it would be a private room instead of a semi-private. That makes a big deal, especially since my sister wants to bring her cats with her. That would make it a whole lot easier to have her cats with her."

"It has great surroundings and a quiet neighborhood -- the place to go for walks -- and it is a clean place. The staff people were very friendly. It was spacious and very adequate for my wife. "My mom moved into Brookdale Asheboro. She needs more help than what she's able to get there. She's not getting as much physical therapy as I would like, which is my only regret so far. They help her out, watch her closely, and are available when she needs them. They seem to be very knowledgeable and experienced. They offer happy hour a couple times a week.
