"I visited The Cambridge at Brier Creek. They are excellent. It was very high class and very nice. They're welcoming. The young lady who showed us around was just excellent and gave us all the time we needed. The building is a couple of years old, so basically it's new. The apartments have very nice touches to them, like wood floors and up-to-date appliances. It's nice, fresh, and light. They have amenities. They have an exercise person onsite every day, and they have health care. It's just very nice. They have movies and all kinds of things to do."

"We enjoyed Cedar Ridge a whole lot and were impressed with it. The tour was very well done, and we were impressed with the person who took us on the tour. He was wonderful. The apartment we saw had been vacated and redone, and it was very nice. The facility was well-done and well-presented."

"My aunt lived here for almost fifteen years. She started in a assisted-living apartment and enjoyed her independence and freedom to move around and personalize her apartment. She could attend art classes, her own meals, and socialize with other apartment dwellers. After about nine years, and a series of blackouts (quickly tended to by the superb staff), she moved to the nursing home unit. She still had an individual private room, but much more monitored care. This was a superb facility, that allows seniors to adapt into a new environment. My parents and I really struggled with the decision and finding a home for her, but we ultimately decided on Abbottswood, because it was a great combination of retirement and nursing facilities. They have an onsite pharmacy, doctors of all specialities and even buses offsite to Walmart and Rite-Aid. All around, Abbottswood is a great facility that I would definitely recommend! "

"I went to Twin Rivers Independent Senior Community. It was nice, the apartments could be a little bigger, but it's alright. The staff was good. The outdoor area was nice, it's right downtown, and it's secure."

"I think Galloway Ridge has only been open for six years, and the facilities are beautiful. They have a movie theater, plays, and tons of things. The place was absolutely fabulous, and you can imagine that it's absolutely expensive. The room was beatuful. It was big and had everything you would want -- full kitchen and everything. The entry fee started at $285,000 and went to $1.1 million, and the monthly fees were from $3,500 to $5,300. They treated us well, and the sales person was very nice. He showed us lots of things and gave us lots of information. We had lunch, and it was nice. "

"I have been a resident of this fine community for seven years, and I welcome the opportunity to review it for interested retirees and their families. I truly believe that this facility is one of the best in the Southeast. It has a beautiful 160 acre campus, gracious and spacious villas and apartments, in addition to a beautifully decorated Assisted Living facility which offers apartments for singles or couples, and a nursing facility with excellent medical care for those who need skilled nursing. The food is outstanding, and the dining room immaculate, decorated charmingly and providing a lovely atmosphere for leisurely dining. The wellness program is outstandingl with many exercise classes, a large and well equipped fitness center, and a skilled and friendly staff. This not-for -profit community is owned by the residents, who take a very active role in program and committees. But the major joy of everyday life here is this: the residents themselves who are mostly highly educated, very sociable, and active in the community. There are varied and high-level cultural activities, including lectures, concerts, discussions and classes. All in all, the residents feel incredibly grateful to be living their later years in this wonderful community. "

"We chose The Cedars because it was brand new at that time and the nursing home was just in walking distance from us. When my husband was ill, I could walk or take the car and I could visit him every day. It was a wonderful place and it had a beautiful campus and a wonderful dining room. We bought a condo there. We had a two bedroom with a beautiful view of the pond and fountains. The Cedars has lots of walking areas. They had a lot of activities like free transportation within 12 miles into doctors’ offices or shopping malls. If you couldn’t make it to the dining room they would pick you up. The food was excellent. They have lectures, programs and exercise classes. I like best the residents, they were a highly educated group of people. The staff was also very helpful and very personable. "

"I moved to Azalea Estates Gracious Retirement Living. My apartment has two rooms and a bath. For a single person, it is most adequate, convenient, very comfortable, and has a nice porch and kitchenette. The meals are included. The staff is accommodating. The cleanliness is most acceptable."

"Overture Chapel Hill has a lot of activities almost every day, they have something all the time that's going on. It's about five floors, have three elevators there, a little community area, a swimming pool and they have a barbecue grill. As far as activity and things like that, their community room was a little smaller than the other places. They have different types of rooms, different layouts, and floor plans you can choose from. I like it very much. I toured different ones and this one is a little bit smaller than other places, it's more laid back."

"Overture Chapel Hill is a very friendly independent living community. The staff is also very good, and I don't have any complaints. From what I saw during my tour, the upkeep was good, and it looks brand new. The place was very clean."

"Carol Woods was very interested in caring for the residents. They're less interested in it being a showplace. They have adequate facilities, but not over the top. Some places emphasize fantastic facilities, but they don't care about the people. Carol Woods cares about its people and they have more activities. They have interesting things for people to be involved in (not bingo) like lectures at the universities, art classes, and good lectures from people that are talking about interesting things. There are two main hospitals nearby and there's good shopping. There are several pharmacies nearby and there are several grocery stores and that kind of thing nearby. So, it's a good location."

"I toured Searstone, and I have a friend who moved in. I realized it's an expensive place. You must be in the middle range of revenue to do something like this. You have to have quality for general living before they let you in. They do not allow you to come in if you need level-one health care. You have to be reasonably healthy. They have three restaurants in there now, and they're remodeling the old place, so there will be two more restaurants, for a total of five restaurants inside the facility, so you'll get a variety of foods and everything. The formal restaurant is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and the general restaurants are usually open in the morning, noon, and night. They gave us a complimentary meal. All meals were covered, and the rooms were cleaned every two weeks. There were also all kinds of exercise centers scattered all over the place. They have internal buses and transportation that take them to the doctors or over to go shopping. Some things were scheduled and some were more flexible than they could accommodate. I met a couple of fully knowledgeable desk people. They answered almost every question by being as accommodating as they could be and, to some degree, anticipated what you might want to discuss."
