M. Robinson, I am so sorry that you had an unsatisfactory experience while visiting our community. First off I would be disappointed as well to hear from a staff member that we are always “short staffed”. I can assure you that this individual was not accurate in the message they conveyed. We are not only required to meet state regulation on staff to resident ratios, but we actually have a model that staffs higher than the state minimum. This information is important to share, however, a first impression speaks volumes and I would like to extend to you an invitation to visit again for a tour and to meet with me. I would like to personally show you what Blakey Hall has to offer and to offer you an opportunity to meet some of our residents and let them tell you from their perspective about their experiences living here. We have the pleasure to work in their home and I think that if you had the opportunity to see them living well, this could help change your impression of our community. Please feel free to reach out for a tour if you would give us the opportunity to regain your confidence. Again thank you for your feedback and I would look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for the feedback and the willingness to offer a recommendation. Of course every community is always looking for ways to improve the dining experience. With that being said we are proud that over the last year since I have been the Executive Director, we have implemented a meeting called “Food for Thought” which is done with myself, our dietary director and any resident that would like to attend. This gives the residents the opportunity to discuss areas to improve or repeat. Lisa (dietary director) writes down any suggestion or concern and makes every effort to accommodate their needs. Although it will always be difficult or unrealistic to make everyone satisfied 100% of the time, that doesn’t mean we can’t work 100% of the time to do just that. What makes our activity program unique is our relationships we have been able to build and utilize with the students who volunteer from Elon throughout the year. Some great relationships have been built from a lot of 1 on 1 connections between our residents and students. It really brings an energy to the community that is hard to duplicate. We are so happy and appreciative that you have chosen for us to be an extension of your family. Although there are challenges of helping someone with Alzheimer’s and/or dementia we know that as a team we can provide the best outcomes possible while dealing with a debilitating disease. This is why I am proud to sit with you and the other family members every month to discuss areas of improvement and/or concerns. We also talk about things that are working well so we can make every effort to provide the assistance your loved one needs. Ed Weeks, Executive Director

As one of the co-Executive Directors of Blakey Hall, I was both thankful and sorry to read Ellderly’s review from April 2, 2015 on their experience at Blakey Hall. Thankful in that we can all benefit from constructive criticism, but sorry that they had such a poor experience. Our mission statement reads that we strive “to provide the best quality of life possible for our residents in a safe, caring and home like setting.” During our 16 years of operation, we have continued to promote the dignity, independence and privacy of our residents who are entrusted to our care. Our med techs are instructed to either sanitize their hands or use new gloves after dispensing medications to each resident. Although our food has always been good (several of the leadership team and staff members eat with the residents daily, some even paying for that opportunity), we have recently hired a new dietary director and an experienced full-time cook who are working to bring the quality of the meals even higher. Although our residential care staff members do wear nursing uniforms, we don’t require this of either our housekeeping or maintenance staffs as we want to create a more home-like setting and welcoming and friendly environment.
I don’t know why Ellderly had the poor experience s/he did, but I would like to invite her/him back to Blakey Hall. I hope another experience will help change their opinion of our facility and our staff.

We are so glad you have chosen to move into The Hamlet. We are always working to improve. We have also established a partnership with Jeff a local physical therapist who’s office is at the community building. He has been a positive addition to our team as our residents of the Hamlet are enjoying the opportunity to work with him in the exercise area of our community building. We are always finding ways to nurture a good quality of life for all that live here. Our apartments have a nice inviting feel to it. Almost like our own personal “Mayberry”.
