I moved into Greenway Square Retirement Community. The staff was good and nice. My apartment has a very nice kitchen, which I don't use. I go down and eat. That's one thing I've enjoyed doing and not having to cook. I have a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. And we have a washer and dryer. We've got everything I need. They provide meals three times a day. I don't do the mornings, so I can't tell you anything about that. They have it too early for me, but I go to lunch and, supper. They've got a fitness center. They got a movie theater, well it's a theater and it's like the inside of a theater, but it's used for other things, too. But mainly it's theater and movies. And, we have a lounge called All Purpose Room that has games, and then the fitness center has got real big, and then they take care of some activities that they have in there. We're trying to get a choir started, which I've gone to. And that's really what I do myself and the happy hour, as they call it, a social. We had entertainment today. We've had that quite often and I enjoyed that. They have transportation that will take you to doctor's appointments.

We visited the Greenway Square Retirement Community. The person we spoke to was very informative. The staff was lovely and everybody was very welcoming. They were great. It's an age-in-place facility, which means that it doesn't have a graduated care right there. You stay in your own apartment and you subcontract people, or they have people you can subcontract to come in and take care of you. I didn't like the age-in-place concept. I didn't feel that was something I wanted to do and when we went, we didn't realize that it was an age-in-place facility. We thought it was graduated care so it was a very informative tour from that standpoint. I had no idea of the different ways people did it. I asked the person who spoke with us if that would turn out to be less expensive or more expensive and he said it can be more expensive because you have to contract out everything. If you need a lot of care as you get older, you're going to be contracting a lot of people too. That was not something that I thought worked for me because I could contract people into my own home. They don't have anything like cottages and the apartment we saw was really small. There's also no real outdoor space for walking and it's right off the highway. I wasn't blown away by it. They said it's supposed to be like a resort living but it didn't strike me that way. The facility was fine. They had a beautiful movie theater and a fountain in the middle but the apartment itself was very closed in. To be fair, the apartment that we saw was being cleaned for the next person but it was tiny and just claustrophobic. I couldn't imagine living in anything too small and no outdoor space. If you live in a small space and there are other spaces, like an outdoor space, you feel like you can breathe.

As over 55 grandparents, we were always planning to move closer to our daughter and her family. We spotted this construction site while visiting her family in December of 2020. With it only about 15 minutes from her home,we were immediately excited to use the contact number at the site to obtain more information. Julie was our first contact. She is responsive, thorough and welcoming to our multiple questions. The RLC is exactly what we’d hope for our next transition. We were able to visit a completed “sister” facility in a city close to us. Eric was very patient, answered all our questions and gave us the needed visual we require to seal the deal. We’ve also already attended a meet and greet in the area. We met Julie and other potential residents. We are very excited for Spring of 2022. Not as excited as our 7 y.o. granddaughter, who cried with joy when her mom told her we were moving so close.
