My brother is at Bluff Creek Terrace. A little more staff support is needed there. They take care of the people, but I believe they seem to be short of staff. Nevertheless, they're doing a good job, and they seem to be doing all right. I have not tried their food. However, my daughter had been down there about four times, and she didn't feel the quality of the food was what she would have expected. They have activities down there, but my brother does not want to participate in them, and he has refused to do so. The idea is to get the memory care patients to come and participate; however, they were really not able to get him to join the group. He joined it a couple times, and he quit, and he didn't want to do it. They actually had a video out there online of some of the stuff that they were doing. You could see the things that they're doing with the people in the memory care unit, but my brother decided he didn't like that. The common area is nice. They have seating in the group area where they eat, and adjacent to that they have a room for recreation, or a TV room basically. There are other things there to do. My brother does not always go out to eat with the group. Sometimes he decides to eat in his room, but now with the dementia where it is, I think they get him out to sit and eat with everybody. His room is nice. He has a window that he can look out and see what's going on outside. There is a bathroom, a bedroom, and a closet. There is some of his furniture from the house, and pictures on the wall. He feels at home there. The biggest problem I've had is every year they raise the price. I compared that to what they would be running up here, and they weren't quite as high, but they were very close.

I visited The Arbors at Bluff Creek, but I didn't choose it because I don't think that the person I need care for is at the level of dementia where most of their patients are. The rooms that I saw and their amenities were adequate, we also toured the outside of the facility. There was music playing on the TV and that's really all we saw going on. The staff was very nice. The apartments were small and clean for a double room. There was a salon, but I didn't see a library, and I think that they do take some of them out of the community.

My loved one is at Arbors at Bluff Creek. We very much like it. It's just 12 beds, and he's very well taken care of there. They're very friendly and answer our questions. We're very happy to have him there. They have private bedrooms but no amenities. This is the best fit for him.

Bluff Creek Terrace provided more help than my mother needs now. The facilities were very good for what they were. The room did not seem as home-like because it didn’t have a full kitchen. However, the staff was very friendly and open to any questions we had. They did have card games and bingo, but they didn’t have as many field trips. They didn’t take the people to as many places, and there weren’t that many options.

The facilities at Bluff Creek Terrace in Columbia, MO were nice. There was a high level of security, with locked doors and sometimes alarms for individuals who are more likely to try to leave. When that happened, a deafening alarm would sound, which was disturbing to all and I think highly inappropriate. Rooms were nicely furnished with adequate space and amenities. The grounds were nice as well, they did a nice job creating relaxing spots for the residents and their family/friends to enjoy. They arranged a nice weekly schedule, with repetitive but well-attended events. My main concern for this provider was the interactions I saw between residents and staff (nurses). Many of the nurses I interacted with spoke down, ignored, mocked, yelled, and were just plain disrespectful to the residents. The unprofessional behavior I witnessed made me come back every week (or sometimes more often) to be a sound set of eyes and ears for the complaints I had piling up, which I did send to the administrator. However, the staffing hasn't change and unfortunately this is just one of the consequences of a quick LPN certificate at one of the awful programs which just supports a poor nursing culture in this industry.

The Arbors has a lovely outdoor sitting area with lots of trees and flowering plants, a wonderful chef called Robert, and a fantastic activity director(Tina) who plans creative and helpful activities on a daily basis. Tina also takes a special interest in all of the residents and makes an effort to tailor activities to special resident preferences and needs. The dining room is spacious, bright with sunshine, and tastefully decorated. It doubles as an activity space and party room. The nursing staff are primarily aides, and for the most part, are very caring. The rooms are quite expensive. My only criticism(besides cost) is an apparent lack of communication between shifts. It is left to families or friends to inform staff of special needs or planned outings."

A wonderful location for senior living. My "mother by love adoption" moved to the Bluff Creek independent living apartments last October. It's everything she wanted. She wanted a retirement community near where she used to live in Columbia. Bluff Creek senior living is like an oasis in the middle of Columbia. It's safe, peaceful, and friendly -- and close enough for me to visit. The independent living apartments are in a beautiful building with all the amenities. She didn't want to have to worry about the cooking and the cleaning. At Bluff Creek, all her needs are taken care of. The retirement community staff is friendly and helpful all the time. They provide all the services for the residents. Everyone there has been wonderful!
