"The setup of the place is pretty cool. There are many different rooms and floors and they are open hotel style. However, the place feels very stuffy and sickly. The sterile smell and the general disposition of everyone there was unsettling. Everyone there greatly enjoyed the visits by all of us youngsters so that was nice. Was slightly depressing to go in there, not much cheer and employees there seem to be just doing their jobs nothing more nothing less. The place seemed to have all amenities that would be expected there seemed to be no neglect. "

"My step dad is in The Essex. He’s in a small bedroom with a separate living area about the size of one and half standard hotel room. He’s got a little kitchenette and a full shower that you don’t have to step up into. The folks that I spoke to liked the food there. They have a common living area and dining area. They have folks come in, and they do Bingo and cards. "

"We went to Harmony Gardens to tour it. It was assisted living, but you could not walk out of the building; it was secured. It's very clean. The people were really nice, and they had everything we were looking for. The staff members were very professional. They knew everything that I had questions on, and they were very informative. We checked out three different rooms, and they had good layout. We checked a private, a semi-private, and a suite. We checked the menu, and it was good. They have an exercise room, a beauty shop, and a laundromat (if you want to wash your own clothes, otherwise they would take care of that). They have meeting room like a big living room, a little exercise area, and a spa. It was really nice. They have bingo, puzzles, exercises, and they take them once a month to outings. The occupants were really excited; they were going to go to the zoo. It was a really nice place."

"St. Marys Manor was very clean and the residents looked very happy. The place didn't have an odor or smell. It's a Catholic facility, but anybody can go there. They had a very nice dining room and a meal plan. They also had a memory care unit if you needed to go into that later. They have apartments as well. The staff was very kind, seemed considerate, and knowledgeable."

"Benton House of Blue Springs was beautiful but expensive. The staff member who showed us around was very nice and pleasant. The rooms were big and roomy."

"When my mother-in-law died suddenly of a heart attack my father-in-law fell apart and didn't take care of himself. Within a month my father-in-law was in the hospital and his doctor said that my father-in-law should go to an assisted living facility. I had no experience with assisted living facilities or what to look for. One of the nurses in the hospital said that we should use the sniff test. The less it smells like urine the better. The nurse said I should also look at the bathing schedule and try to talk to the other residents. I took the nurses advice and I checked out several facilities. Many facilities had that insitution/hospital smell to them. I also found out that many of the facilities only give baths three days a week to patients, and frequently these baths were occurring in the middle of the night.When I first went into Blue Hills I could tell that it was different. The place didn't smell of urine and the residents seemed very happy. My father-in-law lived at Blue Hills for nine months and he seemed very happy. My father-in-law died of heart disease at the age of 82. "

"The staff was very nice. I used to come and sing for the facility on the holiday's to cheer people up. Everyone needs someone and you would be surprised how many people are alone. The staff took well care of their patients and it was peaceful until he died. "

"Cedarhurst of Blue Springs is very nice. The rooms are smaller, but the fresh paint looks really nice. The facility is clean. It smells good. The food looks good. It's organized. It's in a great location, safe, and easy to access the highway. They have free transportation, and they take the folks shopping."
