My husband has moved into Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield. Jeremy, the director, did the walkthrough and he was wonderful and told us everything. My husband is in hospice care right now. They're using Pathways, and they have been excellent. The nurses here have been 24/7 watching him. He was shaved this morning. He hasn't shaved in almost a month. He went from looking like a homeless man back to my husband. Everybody here, the social workers, and the hospice have been excellent. It's only been a day, but I finally feel so comfortable that he's in a safe place and well taken care of and that's all that we've wanted. He's in a shared room and it's fairly large. It's an average room. It's more institutional than homey. It has a hospital bed. They have a large workout room. There's a large courtyard that people can go out to. In the past month, this is the safest place that he's been. When you come from the outside, there's a locked door and they have a code that you come through. This is a newer facility compared to the other ones. It's much more modern. I had no idea how expensive nursing homes were, but this was more in our budget at $9000 a month. If you have a private room, it does go up to $12,000. It's not inexpensive.

We went over to Delmar Garden of Chesterfield, and it was very, very nice. The person we met was very informative, and it's a family-run business. They do a lot of things that will accommodate you, that some places wouldn't do. The bedrooms are very nice. Any changes you want to make, they're very accommodating and they'll do them. The dining area was beautiful. They have a big grand piano in there. They bring music in. The atmosphere was very upbeat and just positive. The employees we met have been there for 20 and 30 years. It looks like people enjoy working there.

My mom is staying in Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield. I think it's a nice facility, I just feel that they don't have enough staff to watch the residents. I haven't tasted the food, but I've seen my mom eat it, and it looks OK. I don't know if I would send my mom there again. I really just think they need more staff, more eyes and ears. Her room's size is too small.

I have a friend who lives at Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield, so I'm pretty familiar with the place. It's a place I could easily live in. We go to her apartment, and we have a book club there. We all bring our own food for the book club, so we do not eat with her in the cafeteria. But I walk by it all the time, and it's gorgeous, it's brightly lit, and the residents say the food is wonderful. My friend gets assisted living because they check on her an awful lot. Like sometimes when she forgets to tell them she won't be down for dinner, they would call to see. Her laundry is picked up, too. It's very clean and very bright. There are a lot of common areas to gather. The staff are very helpful. I've interacted with them a lot. They've answered my questions. They've given me brochures because I told them that I would be interested in living there down the road, so they're very helpful. My friend loves it there. The only thing that I didn't like about Delmar Gardens compared to the other facility is that it doesn't have as much outside space as walkways and stuff. They have places to sit. They have a little putting green. I saw a pool, but I'm the type who loves to walk, and if we move into a place, I'll be looking for a place where I can walk around outside a lot. They have lots of activities though.

Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield was clean. The staff was excellent. I liked the fact that it was close to my house and the fact that it has a fairly well-known name. Everybody knows about Delmar Gardens, and they kind of have a good reputation. The admissions director was excellent. He was the one who actually found us a place. The one negative is they had a waiting list; we couldn't get my mother in right away. That probably would have been our first choice, but we didn't know when she could get in, so we had to move to a place that was a little farther away. One slight negative was it's very large. Other than that, there were really no negatives. The only activity I saw was they were having a Catholic worship service in the common area. They had some areas outside. They had kind of a little spa with a shower area, a whirlpool, and some other things in there.

My dad was at Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield. Our experience we had wasn't as great as his current nursing home. While he was there he got an infection and he had to stay for about a month at the hospital. It looks very nice from the outside, it has a slightly more hospital look to it than his current rehab has. Their surroundings also looked pretty nice from the outside. The staff was OK, though they weren't as attentive, they were overwhelmed. When he was at the hospital, they couldn't take him back because they had too many people. They seemed fairly good, but we're upset that they had an infection of that degree.

My mother has been in Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield for a short while, but so far, so good. Some of the staff were good, some were not. They need to improve on their competence and skills, which I was told by the administrator that they are attempting to. There's a hair salon. The facility is nice, clean and comfortable.
