The Best Assisted Living Communities in Saint Louis County, MO

"My wife doesn't see very well and The Mary Culver Home is designed only for visually impaired women, and they've been in business for 150 years, so I like it. It's a small home. It only got 27 private rooms, so she gets a lot of one-on-one attention and they're very good. They are very attentive towards her and I would highly recommend anybody if their spouse is visually impaired, because that's the one requirement to get in. I like the fact that the patient to staff ratio was like 7 to 1 and the food's good. My wife seems to enjoy the food and they do activities with them all the time. So, they try to get them involved in various activities and I'm pleased. The rooms are small, but they're all private, and they have a private bathroom in them. It's plenty and big enough to get around. I think the home was built in 1966, I believe, so it is an older home, but it's well-maintained. They have a dining area and they kind of wait on them like it's a restaurant. They'll come up there and take their order, and whatever they want, they'll cook it for them. They have exercise classes. They do tours of different countries and stuff like that. They listen to those kinds of tapes and then discuss them. The other day when I was there, they were doing Martin Luther King's history and life. So, they do something like that all the time for them."

"It is a nice place. They have a gym where a person comes in and does physical therapy with the residents. They also have somebody that comes in and does music. My brother lives in a 1-bedroom apartment. He has someone that comes in and makes his bed (if he wants it) and washes his clothes. They keep his apartment clean. The food is excellent. He likes it and eats all of it (and I've eaten there a couple of times, too.) There is a park down the street. They can walk there wherever they want. They also have a library, a game room, and a little room with comfortable chairs to just chat with family members."

"Sunrise of Des Peres was very appealing. It was set up like a home, and all the people there were very helpful. The staff has been very nice and helpful. "

"In the last 12 months Town & Country Senior Living, has had: 2 Executive Directors, 4 Director of Wellness, High turnover of staff, Unable to get direct email for staff (had to go through main line), Poor communication between residents, staff, family and in house doctor, less than a year it has changed ownership again."

"My husband is in the memory care unit of Brooking Park and it's near my house. They have single rooms, a room with a living room on the side, and also two people in a room with one bathroom. There are a lot of things going on. They have three or four people taking care of them. They have a slew of activities during the week. They have a lady that comes to sing and they all liked that. They also have grounds the residents can walk around. They have a dining room on the first floor and it's set up like in a hotel. My husband is a picky eater but he eats everything there. "

"The tour I had of St. Louis Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care was very nice, and the staff was very nice, very thorough, and very forthcoming. The rooms seemed to be on the small side. The atmosphere seemed nice. The dining area was nice. It was surrounded by a lot of other buildings, and it's on a busy street. It's a city atmosphere."

"The staff at Friendship Village was excellent. The facility was very up-to-date and very comfortable looking. The rooms looked good and you can bring things if you want to personalize it. The grounds were very well taken care of and very attractive. "

"I like Friendship Village. They have nice rooms. They have different restaurants in the building, so you can go to any restaurants for your meal. They have rooms and cottages. The facility was very nice. "

"I liked everything about The Lumiere of Chesterfield. They had a private chef who worked with the people who lived there to get on the menu what they preferred to eat according to their diet. A lot of these people are diabetics and when they go to another facility, they don't care what they eat, they just put garbage on the menu. This private chef makes a world of difference. They have high ceilings and big, spacious rooms. It's much more spacious than a lot of the facilities I've seen. It makes it feel much more luxurious and much more like home."

"We have a place reserved at Sunrise of Chesterfield for my friend. They accepted her, but when they checked her out, they realized she was being treated for wounds on her legs and they could not do that treatment there, so then she went to skilled nursing and will go to Sunrise. I was the one that went and chose it for her. I was very impressed with it. I had a very good feeling the minute I walked in the door. It was warm and friendly. It just said to me this is the place. We did a physical visit and I looked at the rooms and they were very nice. The facility was very nice, clean, they had lots of good activities, good things to try to keep her going, exercise classes, and a nice dining area with the other residents. The thing I liked about it is it's small. There's another floor of memory care which I did not see. The staff during the tour was very good, showed me everything, was pleasant to work with, very directive, and straightforward. They have come to assess her twice to see if she's ready to come there. It's just very nice. I looked at other places and some of them were just way too big. There is a nice entranceway. I didn't look out back but I think there's space out in the back as I recall. I've had several people say, "Oh, yeah, that place is nice.""

"I have toured Lake St. Charles Retirement Community. The only thing we didn't like is they don't allow scooters, and my mom needs one. Everything else was great. We loved it. It's an independent living. The person who gave me the tour was very compassionate and knowledgeable. They had a lot of large, open gathering areas. I think they got a movie theater, ice cream, and coffee bar."

"The tour was fine. We just walked around, and we saw the place, and everything looked nice and clean. The person who accommodated me was very informative and she knew everything. The rooms were fine. There's nothing wrong with them. Pretty much every place we toured, they all kind of looked the same. There are no activities right now due to COVID, but they're just getting back to mealtime with two people at a table. There was a little library."

"Harvester Residential Care looked pretty good, but when I was trying to get all the money together, it wasn't quite working out then. I liked it. I would give it a positive rating. The staff was good. I didn't have that much interaction with them, but the limited time I was there, I liked it. The rooms were good. I felt good about the place. It would have worked out for me. It was a bunch of small buildings, and I would have felt comfortable living there."

"Autumn View Gardens Assisted Living, Ellisville was absolutely lovely, and if I could afford it, I would go in a minute. What they offered me for my income would have been to share a room with someone else, and that, in my estimation, would never have worked because I have a dog. They are wonderful people. The dining room was beautiful, and the menu sounded really good. The activity calendar seemed great."
