The Best Nursing Home Communities in Jefferson County, MO

"My mother moved to the assisted living facility of StoneBridge The Villas in De Soto. Currently, we're dealing with an air conditioner issue. We're having a major heat wave, and they don;t have control over the temperatures in their own apartments. It's an older facility, and they're doing the best that they can, out of the circumstances, because everyone's air conditioners are struggling with this heat. The staff members were just really easy to work with. The social worker we were working with was working great and allowed things to go as easily as possible. They also have the nursing care people, they do the OT and PT, and they can even do the labs and some of the other stuff there. It's just been a great experience so far. My mom is 84 and extremely picky about food. Within the first week that she was there, I ate a couple of meals with her, because family members are allowed to eat with their relatives if they choose to, and they don't charge you for that. In my opinion, the food was good. They're home-cooked meals, the kind of meals that I would have had when I was growing up. My mom positively loves them, overall. She said they're really good, although sometimes, they overcook the breakfast just a bit. They have a library section with large prints, and they are changed every so often by the city library that we have in De Soto. They also have an activity room. They do activities, although not as many as some other places might have. They have an 8:30 exercise class for anyone who wants to do it, and they always have something at 11 o'clock. It could be games or some kind of a mental activity that keeps the brain active and working well. I would call that a memory enhancement activity. They have something in the afternoon, too. They do a lot of bingo, and there is a small area where they can watch DVDs and movies. They can even do a movie night if they want to. They have a puzzle section there, with all these huge puzzles that they can work on if they want to, any time during the day. They also have a lot of individual types of stuff. They have exercise and equipment in the rehab. They are keeping the place very clean. The maintenance people are amazing. They're there Monday through Friday. You don't see them as much on the weekends, but they will come in for emergencies. It's not a top-of-the-line fancy facility, but this one is inclusive with its price. Everything is included, even my mom's hair getting washed and styled by a beautician. They even do nails there, as well. You can't compare it to the big fancy places that have a theater built in with the seats and the screen. This facility is more of a home-type theater, like when your family sits down to watch a movie. It's going to be that kind of a theater experience. I've lived here since '95, and I've taught here since '84, and it's been here that long. It's gone through different name changes. It was built as a recreation place, way back, so it is not a brand new facility. Aside from the price, we chose this place because my mom liked it when she toured it. They also have a number of different apartment set ups. They're individual, so you do not have to share with someone else. You just pick the size that fits you and your budget. Having her own patio outside was also a big decision because not all of the rooms have that. Another thing is the location. It's right here where we live, so it's really close."

"I like it best that the Woodlands is a duplex. It has a yard, we have help if we need it, there is lunch five days a week and the food is fairly good. Everything is very clean and very nice. It is for both my parents and they both have a bathroom, a laundry area, a living room, a dining room, and two bedrooms. The staff members are very nice and very helpful. I would recommend it because it provides assisted living, so you don't have to worry about your parents. It is very nice and very clean, the staff answers all our questions. It also has security and 911 if you need it. "

"The staff is very personable, they did the best they could with what they have, and they did everything for my friend with her needs. They have physical therapy, television, and bingo, but they should have an area where the patients could go outside, like the tables and umbrellas and that kind of thing to sit up and enjoy. "

"I've been in South County Nursing Home for four years now. In the last four months, we've been going through a drastic change because the nursing home has been sold to Reliant. The staff has changed, but from what I have experienced in the past four months, everybody is awesome. We've got anywhere from a different cook all the way down to the CNAs. I can't say anything bad about the experience I personally have gone through. I've been treated very well. I have a roommate, and it's set up just like in a hospital. It is a semi-private room. We have very limited space for clothes and closet space, and things like that. We share a bathroom with another resident in the next room. It'll be about 45, 50 years old. It's not modern at all. We've had a new chef in the last couple of weeks, and he's trying. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 5. We don't get any fresh fruit, bananas, or oranges. All our fruit comes out of a can or something like that. That's my biggest complaint, and a lot of carbs. We eat a lot of potatoes with gravy, or everything has gravy on it. We have a residential council, and I'm the president of all the residents here. We have a social council meeting once a month, and I speak up in the meeting for all of the residents. If they have a complaint about the shower rooms or the laundry service or whatever, instead of everybody trying to put in their two cents, I am elected to speak for them. We have an activity department that two ladies run, and basically, all they really do for us is bingo. They have a Bible study one hour out of the week, and very few residents take any part in that. They have exercise, and very few residents take any part in that as well, but the bingo is what really pulls everybody together. Up until four months ago, pretty much everybody was 50 and over. Now we even have three or four residents here who are totally blind. They were very careful about who they let come here to live, but now they pretty much take anybody off the street. We even have one man who is on house arrest in which four months ago wouldn't have been considered. They have two dining areas, one for one-half of the building. They call it the front dining room and the back dining room. As a resident here, the State requires them to pay us like anywhere from $30 to $50 spending money. In the last four months, it's been very difficult getting our pay. We were promised the last three days that we would be paid again today. Our pay comes in on the third and fourth of every month, and it is the seventh or eighth today, and we still haven't been paid."

"My wife has been a resident at Bethesda Southgate in the memory care area for a little over 2 years. I chose southgate after visiting many different locations. I have had some experience in the past with elder family members at other facilities and I had a good idea of what to look for and what to avoid. The first thing that was apparent to me was the cleanliness of the facility. It was and remains odor free. The staff was and remains very personable and interested in not only my wife but our family. Because my wife, who has aphasia, tends to wander security had to be high on my list of needs and southgate has always provided for that level of care. During the pandemic we continue to have to deal with, I have been very pleased with the way Administration at the facility has gone above and beyond to continue to provide a safe and secure living environment. We have all had to make sacrifices and southgate has made those as painless as possible. I am very glad I chose southgate and have to emphasize the friendly and caring atmosphere, the extremely competent management and the cleanliness of the facility. I have to also offer that the meals are well above what one might expect."

"My mother-in-law moved to Delmar Gardens in Meramec Valley. I like it all. I don't have any complaints. I'm very happy. I feel she's very safe and well taken care of. The staff was excellent. I didn't taste their food, but it smells delicious. The facility is very clean and very nice. What I like about them, they treat each resident with respect, and they talk to them. They don't ignore them. There's a two-door room. They're fine, very adequate. The atmosphere is very good and very pleasant."

"Room was great, there are various sizes. Staff was helpful and efficient. My friend appreciated regular activities and Mass on campus. I know a lot of places are struggling, but I really feel my friend is safe, loved and well cared for."

"We had to put my husband in the hospital, and they are going to put him in a nursing home. He was in there about eight years ago for rehab. I liked it because they never knew when I was going to pop in. It is affiliated with St. Anthony's Hospital. The place is clean, I like that there is no way you can smell urine or something. The smell in it is more like a home environment. It is comfortable, and they make you feel that you can come visit any time that you want. They don't have a set time for family members to come and visit. You can spend overnight with them if you want to; it is OK because they have their own room. So I think it is kind of a push to make them want to get better -- the homelike environment. It is a nursing home, but it has got some sense of a home in it. It is a professional but a homey environment. The caregivers are very attentive to the residents. Like I said, I like it, and if I had to pay a little bit out of my pocket, I wouldn't mind because it is worth it. "

"Fieser Nursing Home was just wanted we needed when my sister had to go into skilled nursing care. The people are very nice and compassionate. The facility is clean, the food is served in a timely manner and looks good. They were very accommodating to my sister's needs, she had dementia and when she went into hospice they were very helpful and worked well with the hospice staff. I highly recommend Fieser in Fenton."

"We liked everything at Integrity Healthcare of Columbia. They worked with us to try to get my husband in there, because that's by our house. They just didn't have any room, but let me tell you, they did everything. That is an awesome and beautiful place. That was our number one choice because it was so close, but they just didn't have the openings at the time. They are all awesome; they called us and checked up on my husband while he was in the hospital. They have activities, good food, and you can get a one- or two-bedroom apartment. You can share with somebody, which would be cheaper, or you can have a room of your own. They have the bedroom, living room, and bathroom. They have a courtyard and it's nice. They have flowers, trees, and little tables, different little things. They got bird feeders outside."

"My mom and dad have both been admitted to the nursing home. I didn’t know about FV until the hospital introduced me to Tasha. The staff are helpful the director is knowledgeable and the social worker and therapist really guided us through their rehab stay. "

"Oak Hill was a good one, they just didn't have any room for us. It was nice, clean, friendly, and had a lot of amenities, and it was set up beautifully inside. They just didn't have no openings for what we needed. They have the little gardens, little places that are outside. They have flowers and everything like everyone else. The staff was very friendly, and very informative. They had people eating some snacks. They had showed the dining room and showed where they cooked the meals. In a lot of these places, if you get hungry later on that night, they make sure you get something."

"My father-in-law stayed at Marymount Manor for two weeks for rehab. The people were overworked. When they attended to them, they were very nice. The facility needed updating. He had a private room and that worked out well. He ate his meals in the dining room and he got a tablemate that he liked. They have a staff shortage just like everybody else. Price-wise, they were a five-star."
