The Best Independent Living Communities in Saint Louis County, MO

"We've visited Friendship Village Chesterfield a couple of times. There's a lot of construction going, so there were temporary signs posted. But we had a good meal there. When we went again there to sign the contract, they said to stay on for dinner. We met people there from our church, and saw signs outside doors of people we know. It's a large place with several buildings that are connected by a hallway from one building to another. So you can go to another place without being cold outside. There are several apartment buildings. The business manager who took us around was very helpful and informative. They have like a meeting room or a lounging area with a pool table. There are places for the residents to get together, and meet for card games, or watch TV together. They have a monthly catalog or calendar that they hand out to everybody so they can see what's going on and when. Also, they furnish transportation to other places for people who want to schedule it. The staff there were very helpful. There are about 4 or 5 buildings and some are newer. We're going to have a 2-bedroom apartment, but we need assistance in cleaning the apartment and some meals. The living room at our apartment has a kitchen at the end of it, there's a stove, a dishwasher and cupboards, and living room. There's also a laundry that we can use with multiple people on the building uses. It's just down the hall from the apartment we looked."

"The Tower Grove Manor worked out very well for my parents. They were very accommodating there. It is very spacious. They put in new carpeting/new flooring. It is definitely a very old building, but they keep it very clean. The staff are just really nice and the apartments are very large. I can't think of anything that they really haven't done. They responded well to everything. I consider it is old. The food was good and now it's not so good. It is kinda hard to judge because of COVID, it's pretty sparse, but I know they had ample oactivities, but now they don't because of it. So I don't really feel like I can judge that at this time. They have a gym, a small room that they use for the gym. They have students from Wash-U that live there and in return for free rent, they help the residents. They all go out and get food or help them running errands or get done something, like a TV issue or something there to help them, which is really nice. They were graduate students. A lot of them are getting their doctorate and things. They have a garden outback, which is a nice outdoor garden area for the dogs. There's a lot of dogs."

"We visited Friendship Village Sunset Hills for my mom. Everything was excellent. They had a chapel, a library, and restaurant style dining. The price proves all of that because it is a little high. The person who toured me was wonderful. The rooms and the dining area were very clean and nice. They had a kitchen area where their residents get to cook and do different things. They bake cookies, make shakes, malts, ice creams, or sundaes. They also do crafts. When I did the tour, they were very accommodating."

"I liked everything about The Lumiere of Chesterfield. They had a private chef who worked with the people who lived there to get on the menu what they preferred to eat according to their diet. A lot of these people are diabetics and when they go to another facility, they don't care what they eat, they just put garbage on the menu. This private chef makes a world of difference. They have high ceilings and big, spacious rooms. It's much more spacious than a lot of the facilities I've seen. It makes it feel much more luxurious and much more like home."

"I liked Solstice Senior Living at Fenton. The rooms were spacious, and I thought maybe I would move there, but I'm not. The staff was great. They were very willing to answer questions and gave me a nice tour of the facility."

"Lake St. Charles Senior Living Community is a small facility, so it was very convenient for my father to get around. The staff were outstanding. The food was very good. There was nothing I did not like about it at all, except that it was too far from my home. There are people playing the piano; they have bingo and other kinds of games going on. They have excursions to the parks from time to time. I would recommend this facility to people looking for a nicer place, because they are reasonably priced, and they provided very good care. It was very clean, well decorated. As far as I’m concerned, it is a nice place. "

"The Villa at Riverwood is place is very nice. I was impressed with their entrance. I like the people that talked to me. The staff were helpful. It would be probably one of our choices if we decided to transfer. I really liked the place. "

"I have moved in. Everything is on time, and everybody is really nice. The place is clean and it doesn't smell. When you call the staff, they come pretty quickly. However, the food is better than the place where I was at last. I haven't had much of a chance to access anything other than just the apartment and the dining room. I think the activities are good overall. The value for the money is very good, too. I don't have to provide too much of my own things because everything else is provided."

"They save semi-independent living with separate bedrooms in the houses. I haven't eaten there, but Mom is moderately happy with the food. I liked that it gave Mom the option of living in a house and having her own private room. The houses are within about 100 yards from the main facility, so the staff is always close by to check up on them. I would recommend this community. "

"I have been living at the Emerson for about six months now. The staff are very caring and make every effort to meet the residents needs. Everything I need is in this one building from beauty salon to physical therapy. My life here is good. I would encourage anyone to pay a visit here and see for yourself how welcoming it is."

"I toured The Boulevard of St Peters. The executive manager was awesome. He was so nice, caring, talkative, and guiding us in the right direction. The unit they showed me was two rooms. It's got a walk-in bath and a little kitchenette. The staff was beyond great. The place was brand new and perfect. They had a walking area, which was nice, too."

"Garden Place Columbia was smaller and had less flexibility for the residents in what they wanted to do. We wanted to be able to go over there and visit my sister and then eat with her, which was fine there, but they had to have a couple of hours' notice before we could have a meal with her. Their rooms were also much smaller and fairly dark. There weren't a lot of outside windows or anything, but other than that the staff was wonderful and the residents seemed very happy. I wouldn't have had any hesitation to place my sister there. The facilities were very clean and the layout was easy for someone to navigate."

"Garden Place Senior Living Millstadt looked older and so much more like a nursing home than the other places I've been to. They didn't seem to have as many activities as the other places we've seen. What they had was music, some entertainment, bingo, and movies. I also didn't think they had quite enough staff. Other than that, it's a very clean place. The dining room was very pleasant looking. It was a large room and it was open on both ends to the common rooms in the lobby and then the kitchen on another side. It had a lot of windows."

"I liked Asbury Village. It's nice, clean, convenient and the staff was nice. I just enjoyed it all. I have a little dog and they had an apartment that had a place outdoors where I could take my dog out. They have programs for the residents, a library, movie nights, a shuttle that takes them shopping or to medical appointments, and trips to other places. It's a very nice, well-rounded community. Somebody's there 24 hours a day and it's so secure. So, I liked that. I had friends there that I visited before and the food was very good."
