I went to The Rockwood. It's a converted apartment building. It's too small. It's too old. It doesn't have the facilities that I'm looking for. It's kind of dated. The staff was not that knowledgeable, and he wasn't nearly as good as the people at the other places. They had a nice dining area, but it was not that big. I don't think their facility holds as many people as these other places. It wasn't for me. It's not nice enough, it's not big enough and it didn't have as many amenities as the other places, so I decided it wasn't for me.

What I didn't like about The Rockwood was that everything was old and dark. I know it's an older building, but they could paint that woodwork. It was clean. It was just dated. It was also smaller. The rooms were nice though, and the kitchenette was better. We liked that it had a stove, a refrigerator, and a washer and dryer. They had underground parking in the basement. I just didn't like that there's a charge for it. That pulls up the price. We weren't that happy with the location as well, because I understand that the train tracks were not too far away. I didn't like the idea of the train being that close.

We didn't like The Rockwood. It was a 1928 apartment building, so everything is old, it's dark, sort of dreary-like, and they only have about fifty or sixty residents there. We just met like the lady that gave us a tour. It was sort of a brief tour, and they kept saying about the library. It's just dark wood there. It's just old and the bathroom had like, little black and white tiles that they used to have in bathrooms. It was right on the street there, so it's walking distance to everything, but it's just an old building. We thought it was sort of depressing. They were sort of proud of the library. They have a little fitness center. They have a little garden outside. They had a gentlemen's club room with a fireplace and a tea room.

The Rockwood is a wonderful place for seniors. The decor with beautiful artwork, fireplaces and bookshelves filled with new editions from the library enhance the living. Staff from The executive director, marketing person and staff are very caring and helpful to the residents. The community of Webster is convenient for walking , to obtain groceries, to visit the bank and many restaurants.

The Rockwood is set up very nicely for independent living. There are exercise facilities, a laundry room, a sitting room, and a dining room. Most of the time, the lunch is available if you want it, but since it's an independent facility, most of the tenants eat out. The facility serves breakfast, lunch, and brunch on Sundays just in case you come back from church and want to eat. It's a really nice setting even though it's by an old railroad track. The Rockwood is an old, country-style living community, and it's quite quaint. The building has elevators, and all of the rooms are excellently done with wood trim. They have a cart inside if you need assistance getting around. The building has been updated. The people there are very kind, nice, and understanding. The rooms have nice views and outside patios. There are about three entrances, and the residents have their own parking lot. Residents can do gardening. The staff actually takes care of the patios, but if they like, the tenants can do it as well. It is a very nice setting, and it's a very nice area.

The Rockwood was a very old building that had a lot of charm. However, the sinks didn’t have any cabinets, small storage in the bathrooms, and small closets. They had vans that take you places and on outings.

Thank you for visiting with The Rockwood. We are glad you felt the charm and character of our 88 year old building. We are happy to be celebrating our 10 year birthday this year as a senior community! I understand what you saw in the bathrooms. Being on the historical registry our building retains its classical English Tudor style including its pedestal sinks and chrome mirrored medicine cabinets. Thank goodness for companies like Organized Living and Bed, Bath and Beyond. They have great organizational products that create storage under pedestal sinks with beautiful glass and chrome shelving. You also have the option of storage above your toilet and across from the toilet on the wall. When the building was built in 1928, closets were not important to most people. But, the 10 foot tall ceilings allowed them to use their armoires to store clothing and whatnot. Today, that still holds true. With companies like IKEA and antique stores all around St. Louis, our residents have adapted an old tradition for modern times. Granted, they all do have closets, but nothing near what our modern standards say is adequate for our current obsession with clothes. We actually do not have vans for transportation unless we have a large outing that a majority of our Residents are attending. We have a Cadillac that our driver uses for transportation. Well over half of our Residents still drive on a daily basis, so there is not a need for anything bigger than what we have. But in time, if our Residents all stop driving, we will definitely upgrade to bigger transportation methods. Thanks again for touring and also posting a review. We hope others will get to see the charm and elegance of being at The Rockwood.

Rockwood is small in a good way but a little bit older and dark inside, so I don’t think it’s going to be a right fit because it’s not updated. I liked that the rooms were quite spacious with a good-size kitchen and a good-size living space and bedroom. The staff is very friendly and very clear about the information.

Thank you for visiting the Rockwood. The Rockwood is definitely an older building. It was built in 1928. As far as being updated, the building was restored in 2006 with all new plumbing, electric, call systems, fire systems, central air and heat. During that process though, they restored it back to its 1930's grandeur. It has beautiful new kitchens and restored bathrooms. Original restored hardwood floors throughout. All dark oak moldings and doors. The tall ten foot ceilings and six foot tall windows help balance out the oak. So yes, it looks old but because it's on the National Historic Registry and maintains its original English Tudor style and beauty. We understand many like the newer, bigger buildings, which is perfectly okay. Our Residents love the classic Bed & Breakfast feel of our building. It's not an institutional or facility feel, it's a feeling of being home.
