"My wife and I moved into Lake St. Charles Retirement Community. We're in assisted living. The food is great. We really haven't had time to get acquainted because we're still moving in, but people and the staff are very friendly. There are rules here as there are a lot of rules in many retirement communities. One of the things that surprised me though is that we have an electric-powered chair that we're not allowed to use in the building. We've got it in the storeroom, and I guess we could use it if we take it off the lawn or something. They don't tell you that until you move in. The rooms are relatively small, so you have to look very carefully to make sure it's what you expect. They do have a virtual tour, and that is very good. You can get a chance to see a typical room and some various places throughout the complex. The artwork is fantastic. They must have spent a fortune on it. I'm talking about large pieces of art and very, very well done and fine art. The housekeeping staff is good, and the maintenance guys are great. All the amenities are not quite as much, but it's a good deal for the price, I think. The library is well stocked. The appointments to the doctor are limited to 4 trips a month; after that, you have to pay. They have shopping trips like they had one scheduled today for Target. You need to track and check out your transportation requirements very closely. The food is great, but the service is terrible. They hire a lot of handicapped people. They give them a chance, so you have to wait a long time for the meals. There are a lot of apartments, and it's laid out in sections A, B, and C. We're all the way to C, so it's a long walk to our apartment. The balconies are about 4 feet deep and about 12 feet wide. They pay for basic TV services. Then you have to pay for any premiums or like HBO and all that stuff. They have a lot of activities. However, we've been here in such a short time we haven't had an opportunity to take part in any of it. The people here seem to take part in a lot of activities though."

"The Tower Grove Manor worked out very well for my parents. They were very accommodating there. It is very spacious. They put in new carpeting/new flooring. It is definitely a very old building, but they keep it very clean. The staff are just really nice and the apartments are very large. I can't think of anything that they really haven't done. They responded well to everything. I consider it is old. The food was good and now it's not so good. It is kinda hard to judge because of COVID, it's pretty sparse, but I know they had ample oactivities, but now they don't because of it. So I don't really feel like I can judge that at this time. They have a gym, a small room that they use for the gym. They have students from Wash-U that live there and in return for free rent, they help the residents. They all go out and get food or help them running errands or get done something, like a TV issue or something there to help them, which is really nice. They were graduate students. A lot of them are getting their doctorate and things. They have a garden outback, which is a nice outdoor garden area for the dogs. There's a lot of dogs."

"The Rockwood was a very old building that had a lot of charm. However, the sinks didn’t have any cabinets, small storage in the bathrooms, and small closets. They had vans that take you places and on outings. "

"I would rate Harvester Residential Care high. My daughter went with me, too. The people are very pleasant. I like how everything is situated. The owner buys houses, and each house has either two or three bedrooms or four bedrooms, and he rents out the bedrooms. You're renting out a bedroom a month, but you're sharing the house with two people or one person. It's like a college dorm. He owns 22 houses. He took us on two tours. I'm taking the lowest one, which is $1,600. That's a lot of money for one bedroom, but it's all fully furnished. If you don't like the furniture, you tell him. He said that one time, the man who moved in didn't like the rug and all that. They pulled up the rug and a put in a new one. He'll give you a new mattress. You got a bed, a dresser, a lamp, a TV, and a landline phone. Their programs are nice. There's bingo three times a week, and you get two meals a day, which is all included in the price. The meals he showed us looked good. They deliver the meals to your house. There's a nurse and a doctor on call. I'm hoping to get there, but the problem is you don't have your own bathroom. It's a shared bathroom. The houses were nice. There's a living room, a dining room, a nice kitchen, and a washer and a dryer. If you are too weak to do anything, they have a person who will take care of the houses. They do the housecleaning, and if I don't want to wash my clothes, they'll wash my clothes or change the bed."

"It's been about two years since I visited Friendship Village Chesterfield, and the layout was very good. It's very attractive housing. I was there for my rehab about three or four years ago after my back surgery. The people that worked in the rehab did an excellent job. They were very caring, and they were all very, very nice and helpful. The food was terrific. I was looking for independent living and a total life care experience."

"I toured Clarendale of St. Peters. It's a very lovely building. They had a little courtyard. It was a very lovely place to be. They have a lot of things for the residents to do, physical therapy, and different things, but it's mostly the cost that turned me down on that one. The staff was good, kind, and gave me plenty of information."

"My Dad has been a resident of Briarcrest Estates for over 3 years. This is not the newest, fanciest building on the block but the staff, food and care is amazing. The residents are welcoming and look out for each other. From my experience the management is fully focused on making the tenets have a great experience every day. The building is older but very clean. I am so glad Dad is there and he is happy."

"I liked everything about The Lumiere of Chesterfield. They had a private chef who worked with the people who lived there to get on the menu what they preferred to eat according to their diet. A lot of these people are diabetics and when they go to another facility, they don't care what they eat, they just put garbage on the menu. This private chef makes a world of difference. They have high ceilings and big, spacious rooms. It's much more spacious than a lot of the facilities I've seen. It makes it feel much more luxurious and much more like home."

"Everything at The Boulevard of St Peters was very well done. It was relatively new. It's just been there for a year. So, everything was nice. We had already put a deposit there for Mom, but we didn't get to use it. The lady was very professional."

"We toured Friendship Village Sunset Hills. The price is probably out of our reach because it's so expensive and you have to buy in like a couple hundred thousand dollars. We didn't see apartments; we just got an overall view. We walked around the common areas and the restaurants. They have a library and a sewing room. We were impressed by most of that. If we follow up, we were going to see an apartment on the next visit. However, everything was immaculate. We didn't meet a lot of staff. We met the woman who gave us the tour, and some residents walked by and exchanged pleasantries with us, but there wasn't a lot of interaction. The person was very professional. We walked around outside, and it was gorgeous. They have villas, garages, a basement, and everything, and that's what we were interested in. We like all the workout areas. They have a sewing room with lots of long tables and stuff where I could continue to take my stuff and quilt. So that impressed me, of course. Also, they have a path you can walk, and it's like a mile path."

"I did a tour of Solstice Senior Living at Fenton and I thought it was very nice. All the people, the residents I've seen, looked very happy. The building itself smelled wonderful when I walked in because they had just had lunch, and they gave me a tour. The staff was very personable, he answered all my questions and took the time to talk with me. He was not rushed or anything. He showed me a couple of different choices as far as rooms, which were very nice. The building itself seemed very clean and maintained, and any of the employees that I saw were very friendly as well. They were very nice rooms. They were clean and bright. Each room had a walkout exit, or if they were on the higher floors, they each had a balcony. So, that was very nice. I did not eat anything, but everything smelled good because they just had lunch. He gave me their monthly menu or weekly menu, and it looked very appetizing, the food that they served"

"We have moved into Creek Valley Retirement Community. We're completely satisfied. It's all-inclusive, which is good. In other words, everything is covered. You don't have any extra bills or tips, or anything. The food is very good. The people are very courteous. I can't find anything wrong with it. They're friendly, and they seem to be doing their job very well. They have a very good variety of food. There is always something you find that you could like. The maintenance is great, and the cleanliness is great. We haven't used a whole lot of their activities, but they have a great variety here. They have plenty of activities. They have a great exercise room and a great library. There's always something every day. There are two or three items on the list that are different from the day before. Value for money is very good, too."

"Holiday Orchid Terrace was laid out very nicely. Everything was nice, roomy, and comfortable. I went there for lunch, and it wasn't bad. Their food is a step above McDonald's. The living atmosphere was depressing. There are too many old people there. The facility was very, very personable and very nice, but it just wasn't for me. Everybody I met was very pleasant and cordial."
