Nursing Home Communities in Ferguson, MO

"I've moved my brother into Mother of Good Counsel Home. This place is 20 minutes from my house. They can handle his trachea and they had a bed. He's reasonably stable, but he's critically ill. I had to get him someplace that was comfortable with the trachea and ideally as convenient as possible to family, so he's within 20 minutes of myself and my sisters. I've had other family members in there. I didn't initially look at this because it wasn't as convenient as I was hoping. I saw it on the web, and that's when I spoke with the gentleman. I knew Good Counsel from past experience and they had been very good. I was comfortable with it and when they said they could take him, I went with it. Their care has been excellent. Considering I spent most of the last 48 hours there, I would say the staff is excellent. I've been very pleased with everything, from the cleaning crew to nurses, to the admissions people. They've been excellent. He has a tracheotomy, so his diet is a lot of pudding and ice cream and almost like baby food. He's got a good appetite. He's swallowing things like cottage cheese, peaches, and a lot of soup. Last night, he had some ground beef pretty well ground with some gravy on it. Considering the limited things he can handle, it's been good. They've adjusted the diet very well to his needs. They have him in a hall with elderly two married couples, and they've both been in to visit and they're very social. They were telling me last night that there's a casino afternoon coming up. There's a sitting room outside of his room and last night I wheeled him out there. Even though he can't speak, six other gentlemen gathered around a table and they wanted to know if he'd want to join them in card games. They like to play cards and he's not really at that level yet. They've got a fairly good amount of activity. They were telling me for the 4th of July, they sit in a pretty high spot, and from the third floor where he is, they could watch all the fireworks activities downtown at the arch from their windows. It seems good. They adjust the activities to the patient. Value for money is excellent because his insurance is not going to cost him much of anything."

"I loved this facility my grandmother was on the rehab division and she was Nursed back to good health....she since has passed but while at Manorcare she was provided excellent nursing care "

"I had an amazing experience with the Admissions office at now Crystal Creek not (Northgate.) She was friendly and helpful. I called her late one evening and she even met me at 7am to tour after I got off work. My husband went here for rehab and the therapists did a wonderful job "

"My mother stayed at St. Louis Place. The place was clean, quiet, and peaceful. Her room was clean. The staff was nice and friendly to her. They had daily bingo games and other daily activities. They had a rec room that they went to for a movie day or movie night."

"My mother was there after a fall in 2008, the first thing I noticed was it didn't smell like a facilities. All the staff was kind to mother...they would bath her before any of us arrived. Her room was next to a window she enjoyed looking out each morning at the birds. There was a restaurant in the same building if we didn't to eat with mom we could eat there and the food was pretty good for a facility. We had been told that the more you visit the better off you loved one will be.....so all of us did just that daily not any special time....I was there with her in therapy, meals and sometime for bathing....I took mother flowers and gave some to her roommate as well..mother was there over 6weeks. The Social Worker explained everything to me in lay terms which was good for me. The staff was kind, pleasant and as I looked around I noticed they treated all the clients with equal time and patience. They played games, took walks, they combed her hair,rolled her around in her chair. This was mom first time being in a facility, and her last. We her sibling took care of mama laundry. I was there to read bedtime stories to her and sometimes to eat with her. My brothers from Florida came in for one week, that's how we took care of mother all of us not everything on one sibling. Mom has gone to her reward now she is missed very much. I wrote the facility a thank you note and I do hear from them occasionally."

"I have had 3 family members at St. John's Place. Everyone was so helpful and kind to my mom, dad and aunt. A staff member stayed with my aunt until family could arrive so she would not die alone. My family always had the same caregiver and the owners and family were there everyday and greeted us every time we arrived. Any problems were addressed immediately and the DON was upfront with me regarding expectations of care and helped with not only my family's adjustment but my own adjustment to living in a long term care facility. I would place another relative there in a heartbeat. Excellent care. "

"My wife is at Hillside Manor Healthcare and Rehab Center. She has been there for about four months now. As I can see, they're not helping her with anything. They just lay her in the bed, and I come and feed her every day. I don't think they did any therapy with her. When you go there, they do short-term therapy, and then you become long-term, but I don't think she goes to any therapy. All they do is dress her sometimes and sometimes they lay her in the bed, and they feed her, that's it. My wife's room is filthy, dirty, and nasty. I see mice running around the floor. Some of the staff are good, and some of them are horrible. You got someone who is just there to get a check. From what I observed, they need to work on the staff because the staff are the people who watch the patients."

"Lakeview Post Acute is really nice and just close by. My brother is there, and I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far. They got activities for them to do every day, like movie nights, bingo, and they can get snacks anytime. They have a courtyard and an exercise room, too. It's about 30 minutes from the hospital and restaurants. So, it's in a very good location."

"Rooms are spacious and well kept. My father was there for almost a year before he passed away. During his stay, he was well cared for. He thrived in a community that was friendly and active for seniors. I found the staff compassionate, caring and attentive. I know seniors have many health issues and the staff always alerted me of any issues my loved one had that day. Even though, I realize since Covid, every job is stressed to keep qualified staff. Staff always met me with a smile. My Dad can be a handful, but the staff was very patient with him. I so love and appreciated all who took time to look after my DAD. THANK YOU STAFF"

"My sister is a resident of The Pillars of North County Nursing & Rehab, but she's very unhappy there. The food is nasty and the care is not too well either, because the aides have an attitude. They take the residents to a baseball game, they take them to the casino, and everywhere, but again the food is horrible. The staff is pretty nice upfront, and I would rate them a four on a good day. They have a salon, a library, an activity room, and they are pretty good. The building is clean and flawless, and the floors in the hallways are shiny."

"The facilities in Hidden Lake are well maintained and there are several nice garden areas where my grandparents enjoy walking. The staff are friendly and helpful, though they are not always very accurate with identifying patients before distributing medication. Because of this, my grandmother was almost given the wrong medication on two occasions. Despite the problems with staff being less than attentive before medicating patients, the community seems like a nice place and my grandparents appear happy there. The facility offers many opportunities for exercise and involvement for all of its residents and offers three meals each day as well as transportation via shuttle to several local destinations. The furniture and decor throughout create a very homey environment. With sofas and rocking chairs tucked throughout several nooks and corners, and a large fireplace and flat screen TV in the common room, there are plenty of places to sit quietly and visit with a loved one. There is even a piano in the common room where I once played Christmas tunes for my grandparents and their guests. "

"I found St. Anne Assisted Living Residence for my brother. It’s a small, privately-owned facility. It’s an older place. They could do better on the activities, but the price is very reasonable for me."

"My dad has moved into U-City Forest Manor for rehab. It's a very positive experience. The staff was very friendly and efficient, and the environment there is comfortable. I haven't tried the food, but I know he likes the food there. I think the rooms are kind of small, but they're very well maintained though. They do have beauticians and barbers, and there is a huge lawn outside. I think that's probably why they call it Forest Manor because there's a park connected next door. I don't know how much it cost, he's on Medicare and private insurance."
