"Our family had never heard of Brooking Park until we needed an unplanned skilled level of care for a relative. They had an opening when we needed one and I found out that they were caring, met my aunt's needs, kept me posted and were very responsive until her last day. I would recommend Brooking Park and their team. "

"We were going to get Mom in Mcclay Senior Care, but before she could be transported over there, she passed away. It was big and clean. The facility is only four years old. The people were nice and very accommodating for the short period of time that we were there. The staff was nice and friendly. It was very clean. Mom was gonna be there for hospice."

"My parents are in Granite Nursing & Rehabilitation, and it seems like they're pretty happy. It's a long-term care facility because my mom needed quite a bit of nursing care, but I was able to find them a room together with a private bath, so I was happy about that. The facility itself is an older place, but it's very clean. It doesn't have bad smells. What struck me was everyone is just so friendly and they have a very good rehab facility also. They have lots of activities for their residents. Overall, I'm very happy with it. So far, so good. My mom went in and had pretty severe edema in her legs, and that's all cleared up. She was in a pretty expensive rehab center prior to that for three weeks, and they didn't manage to do anything about it. She's only been in this facility for a couple of weeks and it's already pretty well cleared up. I haven't tried the food myself. I've seen it when my parents are eating when I've been over there and it looks good. They said most of the food's pretty good and they're pretty picky. I think they would like it better if they'd go down to the dining room. So far, they're having their meals delivered to their room and sometimes they complain that it's not hot. It's more or less my parents' fault, but overall, they seem to like it."

"My wife is at Hillside Manor Healthcare and Rehab Center. She has been there for about four months now. As I can see, they're not helping her with anything. They just lay her in the bed, and I come and feed her every day. I don't think they did any therapy with her. When you go there, they do short-term therapy, and then you become long-term, but I don't think she goes to any therapy. All they do is dress her sometimes and sometimes they lay her in the bed, and they feed her, that's it. My wife's room is filthy, dirty, and nasty. I see mice running around the floor. Some of the staff are good, and some of them are horrible. You got someone who is just there to get a check. From what I observed, they need to work on the staff because the staff are the people who watch the patients."

"My uncle was there and the people were friendly, but the home was not very clean or orderly. Noisy, radios playing loudly with different music from each room, the staff was kind. Most of the patients were Vets and you know how Vets are treated. Not very many visits only on holidays, food was not that good. Unkempt floors. The outdoors was ok, not very large maybe 2 tables on the outside no calm scenry. For Christmas our group would go there to sing, the patients would be sitting in their chairs looking very sad because they had no visitors or just lonely. I took pictures but I don't look at them, because they look sad and lost. I visited my uncle with my mother many times before he died. The staff as I stated earlier were efficient, the Social Worker was more than helpful she help with the signing of the agreement for my uncle, told me things that I didn't know about him. Assisted us in making funeral arrangements. "

"The facilities in Hidden Lake are well maintained and there are several nice garden areas where my grandparents enjoy walking. The staff are friendly and helpful, though they are not always very accurate with identifying patients before distributing medication. Because of this, my grandmother was almost given the wrong medication on two occasions. Despite the problems with staff being less than attentive before medicating patients, the community seems like a nice place and my grandparents appear happy there. The facility offers many opportunities for exercise and involvement for all of its residents and offers three meals each day as well as transportation via shuttle to several local destinations. The furniture and decor throughout create a very homey environment. With sofas and rocking chairs tucked throughout several nooks and corners, and a large fireplace and flat screen TV in the common room, there are plenty of places to sit quietly and visit with a loved one. There is even a piano in the common room where I once played Christmas tunes for my grandparents and their guests. "

"The Staff at Grand Manor have been commendable. They quickly respond when I'm contacting my brother. They notify me always when an event happens, or his medication changes. They have kept that place safe for residents while Covid claimed some staff members. "

"My sister in law is satisfied with Meridian Village, they seem to be taking good care of them, and it's a good thing. The rooms were nice, the food was very good, and it seems they have a lot of entertainment coming in. I was there, and there were 2 or 3 things going on that were very nice. She's been there over a month, maybe 2 months. The facilities are fine, and the staff I have been involved had been very helpful, very nice, and very good."

"My mother was there after a fall in 2008, the first thing I noticed was it didn't smell like a facilities. All the staff was kind to mother...they would bath her before any of us arrived. Her room was next to a window she enjoyed looking out each morning at the birds. There was a restaurant in the same building if we didn't to eat with mom we could eat there and the food was pretty good for a facility. We had been told that the more you visit the better off you loved one will be.....so all of us did just that daily not any special time....I was there with her in therapy, meals and sometime for bathing....I took mother flowers and gave some to her roommate as well..mother was there over 6weeks. The Social Worker explained everything to me in lay terms which was good for me. The staff was kind, pleasant and as I looked around I noticed they treated all the clients with equal time and patience. They played games, took walks, they combed her hair, rolled her around in her chair. This was mom first time being in a facility, and her last. We her sibling took care of mama laundry. I was there to read bedtime stories to her and sometimes to eat with her. My brothers from Florida came in for one week, that's how we took care of mother all of us not everything on one sibling. Mom has gone to her reward now she is missed very much. I wrote the facility a thank you note and I do hear from them occasionally."

"NO STARS Nurse had not even looked at patients chart. Didn’t know she was diabetic until we told her. People walking the halls unsupervised. Front desk couldn’t even read Disgusting! Only a CNA covering 2 floors at night and he slept most of the time. There is only one elevator that takes 3-5 minutes to get to the floor. This is a fire hazard. They could never get all the people out. Also, there are paper decorations hanging from all the ceilings. Another fire hazard."

"Crestwood Health Care Center is about one block from my home and I have passed by it on numerous occassions. I have never had a reason to visit this facility until my sister had a stroke and needed to be admitted to a rehabilitation center. I dropped by this facility just in case her doctor assigned her to Crestwood. When I visited, the facility appeared clean with a lot of activity going on. The front desk receptionist was pleasant and answered my basic questions about the services provided. The facility does not appear as modern as some other nursing facilities I have visited, but from a strictly physical appearance seem ok. I did not take a tour of the rooms, so I cannot comment on them. "

"Rosewood is a very nice nursing home facility. The accommodations are comfortable and spacious. The care there is friendly and respectful. The environment is very calm and quiet. Perfect for recovery. I think the only thing I might criticize is that there didn't seem to be much of a community or many companionable activities going on. But my experience was very nice there and my great aunt liked it as well even though at the time she was already quite anti-social. "

"My mom is in Mother of Good Counsel Home. It is very clean and very responsive to concerns, it has got a faith-filled atmosphere, the food is good, and they have some incredible staff. I have been to some of their activities and heard about the others, and they are good, but if you are hearing or vision impaired, they don’t really address that. "

"My dad is in The Valley for a two-month rehab. He does not like the food because it's bland and the service is OK. They have a lot of younger people working there who provide less attention than they should be, but their work ethics are pretty good. They give Dad a bath twice a week. He is in a pretty decent, single room. There aren't a lot of people there. They need to improve on the scheduling of nurses; there are times where there's a lot of them, then the next day, there aren't any nurses. The outside of the place is nice, but the area where the employees smoke has cigarette butts all over. Their rehab is pretty good. The place is pretty decent, overall. "

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren't available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Individuals who don't require specialized medical services and extensive supervision may be sufficiently supported by the services offered at an assisted living facility. These costs are 27% lower than those charged by nursing homes. For seniors who are predominantly self-sufficient, adult day care can provide savings of more than $3,700 per month. In-home care and home health care are suitable for those who wish to age in place. Both are $145 less than nursing care and provided in the comfort of seniors' own homes.
