"My mother is in Garden Place Senior Living - Millstadt Community. It's in a neighborhood rather than in a business park. It's only one level and only has 36 clients. It smells good. The staff seems to be very good and it has good food. They have regular meals and they often have ice cream socials. They have activities like Bingo, chair yoga, and mindfulness. They have celebrations for the holidays and they have a system where they give the person a dollar every time that they show up to one of thes activities. They can spend their dollars in a store there where they can buy cookies, toiletries, or different things. It's a good incentive. It seems to work for my mother to get her to attend things. They seem to be responsive to my mother's needs. They keep us informed of what's going on with her. They tend to feed the residents a lot of sandwiches and soup, but that's what they seem to like. The staff is well-trained, they're good at their jobs, and they care about the clients that they have. It's well worth the price. She's independent, and she's still able to do most everything for herself."

"I toured Kingsland Walk Senior Living. I was impressed with how new the building seemed. The facility was excellent, but the location, I would not feel comfortable walking my dog outside. All the staff that I met were very friendly. The structure of the building and cleanliness was excellent. You have everything there from independent living to memory care, all mixed in one place. It's good, but it also sometimes can be depressing as an independent living person because you're also seeing the assisted living and memory care people mixed in with the independent living."

"My mom is in St. Louis Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care. It has been very good. The staff there are very caring. It's well staffed and very friendly. She had a real hard time adjusting at first, and they were very patient with her. They really helped her through it. Now she is involved in more activities. I think she's doing well. I go once a week and spend a couple of hours with her. We have lunch, and it's good. She enjoys it. They play bingo twice a week, and she really enjoys that. They keep them pretty busy. They have outside trips. She hasn't participated in any of that yet, but they do that at least twice a week. They have some music. They have chair exercises that they do every day. It's very clean. They've been doing some renovations. They have a nice little outdoor patio. I really don't have any complaints at all. They have a minister that comes every other week, and she really enjoys that."

"My mom was at Garden Place Columbia for a couple of months. I liked it because it was bright and cheery. They had a lot of activity. My mom was in assisted living, and she did fall, but they did notify me right away. So there's nothing that I feel bad about there. I think that they did a good job. The facility was very clean. I would sit with my mom, and the food looked good. The food was cooked nicely. My mom enjoyed it. She said she liked it. Her apartment was nice. It was a small apartment. It was clean and neat. We had to furnish it ourselves, but that's okay."

"I toured Promenade Senior Living. Terry did a good job. She was enthusiastic. The rooms were small. It looked good, and they got a good job keeping it clean. I looked at the dining area, and it looked nice."

"I toured Fields of Florissant. I liked the little villas. They were perfect, with a little attached garage. The staff who assisted with the tour were very professional and concerned. She was excellent. I don't have any complaints. The little villas were something that I would really like. It was just too expensive. I think it was like $3,000 a month, and that was a little more than what I wanted to pay. The size of the rooms was nice, and the layout was beautiful. It's private. You had everything that you needed right there."

"My wife doesn't see very well and The Mary Culver Home is designed only for visually impaired women, and they've been in business for 150 years, so I like it. It's a small home. It only got 27 private rooms, so she gets a lot of one-on-one attention and they're very good. They are very attentive towards her and I would highly recommend anybody if their spouse is visually impaired, because that's the one requirement to get in. I like the fact that the patient to staff ratio was like 7 to 1 and the food's good. My wife seems to enjoy the food and they do activities with them all the time. So, they try to get them involved in various activities and I'm pleased. The rooms are small, but they're all private, and they have a private bathroom in them. It's plenty and big enough to get around. I think the home was built in 1966, I believe, so it is an older home, but it's well-maintained. They have a dining area and they kind of wait on them like it's a restaurant. They'll come up there and take their order, and whatever they want, they'll cook it for them. They have exercise classes. They do tours of different countries and stuff like that. They listen to those kinds of tapes and then discuss them. The other day when I was there, they were doing Martin Luther King's history and life. So, they do something like that all the time for them."

"The room layout at Autumn View Gardens-St. Louis was excellent. The rooms were much better and larger. We would have picked their layout, but we just didn't like the environment. It didn't seem as quiet. It was noisier. The facilities weren't as cheery and as fresh as the others we looked at. It was an older facility, but the room we looked at had a walk-around balcony, which was very nice. The other two facilities did not have that. You could sit outside on your own private balcony. There was a garden area, too, and the staff seemed nice."

"My mother stayed at Garden Place Waterloo for an entire year. It was wonderful. The entire team treated the residents like their family. They have private entrances from the outside, so they all have their own patio which is nice. The care, the staff, and the food are just topnotch. What's pretty cool about them is that each resident gets to select their birthday dinner and then it's served to the entire community there. You can choose whatever you want. It could be steak, it could be lasagna, it could be fried fish. It could just be anything that your little heart desires, and they will accommodate that, and everyone can have that. If they don't want that, they can have something else. They always have an alternative option. There was a time when my mom was having a difficult time getting to the dining room, she was in a lot of pain, so they brought her meals to her room and were always just very attentive. Leah did a phenomenal job as the director, and Barb, her assistant, was amazing. And the rest of the staff were superb. "

"I have lived at FVSH for over three years and been very satisfied with my choice. I came here because my husband was in the early stages of dementia, and we moved to a two bedroom independent living apartment which we both found to be very comfortable and roomy. The food was excellent and the activities abundant. After two years, it became necessary for him to move to a full care unit where I could easily see him every day, share meals with him and still live in our apartment. It was a good choice for both of us. He received excellent care, and I did not have to drive miles to visit him. After over a year, my husband died. I received support from the FV staff and chaplain's department as I went through all the decisions and emotions associated with such a devastating loss.
